How well could this PC run New Vegas?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:22 am

CPU: AMD Phenom? II X6 1055T Six-Core CPU
RAM: 8 GB [2 GB X4]
Video card: Radeon HD 6850 - 1GB
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

This is just a PC I'll probably be buying, not one that I already have. Just tell me if you need more information. Thanks in advance.

Like you didn't know it already. Anyone that buys a rig like that, which is obviously made to play games, already knows it will play it.

Why do people make so many threads like this?

Yeah i dont′t get it either. It′s like they make these kind of threads to just show off how awesome theire pc is or something like that. I mean like you sayd if anyone buys that kind of a pc they allready know that they can run everything.

I don't agree.
This (proposed) rig has too much CPU and not enough video.
The new HD6850 is somewhat less powerful than a 5850 (and much less than a 5870).
There is only 1 vidcard that excites me (and it's not an ATI)...
GTX580 - now there's a vidcard, and you need only one.
(Expensive though.)
Seriously, you couldn't pay me to use an AMD/ATI vidcard.
Are you trying to run more than two monitors at once?
Or what,
Regards

Ok, mine isn't as powerful as the OPs, but I think I should be able to run it fine. I have an E8500 with a gtx260 black edition, only xp 32 bit so only 3 gigs of ram are used. Having been playing for awile, the new patch doesn't seem to have changed anything with my performance. Read somewhere to remove any lighting mods, so I took out URWL. Am missing the dark nights already, but seems to have slightly helped with fps. First time I went to the NCR Prison, my frames with vsync on choked down to the low 40's when looking at it from the surrounding hills. Other places I test my fps on have not shown any improvement neither. Anything I can do, or is it my system?

Well, I have a limited budget and I can't afford a GTX580 along with the other things I want.

My recommendation to you is post your budget for all parts in http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1118559-the-community-tech-thread-no-93/ and ask Tig what he recommends for a balanced system for your budget. (Or look at what he's suggested for others builds in your price range.)

I don't think you'll be disappointed with his recommendation.

Nice rig. But why are you about to risk the stability of your new computer by buying New Vegas? . Trust me, you don't want your machine anywhere near his piece of 'code'.

Your opinion. Mine would be different.

Sure there is a chance they'll run into issues, but most problems can be worked around on the PC. I've had a few, but I expect problems with this game engine. I've managed to solve them all and I am quite enjoying the game.

you do know people upgrading to the GTX 580's are selling their GTX 480's at 300-350 a pop right? I was an early adopter I got my first one for 499 on evga pre order so was one of the first ones in th usa to have one... before they hit etailers.. and shelves. Second I got for 390 with my EVGA bucks, and just as the GTX 580's released a guy on the evga forums was selling his 4 for 300-350 a pop each day getting cheaper so he could use the money for GTX 580 FTW HC's when they come out I got my third from him for 325 shipped. Just got to keep your eyes peeled a GTX 470 i think is or was around 240-250 on newegg. But if you can pick up a single GTX 480 from a reputable person used that is in preimum condidition not bad getting a 400-440 dollar card for just over 300 bucks that was 499 only a matter of days ago.

Im pretty much have no issues besides inside the ultra lux bath house, setting up matches with creatures in the thorn, companions using each others weapons or ed-e breaking him going inside casinos with him. Its really a great game.my biggest complaint those few tiny things and of course having to have steam on a physical copy of the game is the pita...

What a helpful response. Thanks for that.

There's no such thing as too much CPU and not enough video since the CPU gets used for a lot of things besides gaming. It's not useful to bottleneck your GPU with insufficient CPU, though.

Seriously, you couldn't pay me to use an AMD/ATI vidcard.

Meh, my last 4 video cards have been nVidia cards and they've been great, and I've had several ATI cards before that. I got a sweet deal on a 5870 a few months ago and I dig it...no problems and great price/performance/power consumption/heat ratios. I'm not into brand loyalty...every major hardware company makes good and bad products.

I avoided the GTX 480 because it's not very efficient from a thermodynamics perspective, but the GTX 580 looks great. Still too expensive, though. I'm not paying a 40% early-adopter tax. :P
