How well did FNV sell?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 2:50 am

Please excuse the the old Christmas avatar, i haven't been here for a while.

The last i thing heard in relation to FNVs sales figures were the pretty impressive pre-order sales back in 2010. I was just wondering if anyone knew how well FNV has done since then. I tried searching but no luck.

It's just a personal thing with me, knowing that FNV sold better than FO3 isn't JUST about hate for FO3, it would be a sign that there is a big market not just for open world games, but INTELLIGENT open world games.

They both sold really well. That is all anyone needs to know, and there is no need for anyone to throw fuel on your personal fire.

I just like to express my dissapointment with FO3 occasionally

FNV is the first game in a long time that has exceeded the expectations of a very select group (elitist, i admit) of gamers. It's not unreasonable to be interested in it's public reception.

That alone should have deterred you from even posting this. We don't care.

I'm pretty sure FONV sold somewhat better (5-6 million to FO3's 4.7 million in the time between launch and the end of the year?) which isn't surprising when you consider that FO3 would have built up the fanbase and created hype for the sequel.

I'm just glad NV did well so we're guaranteed to see more out of the franchise.

I've been away longer than i thought, apparently forumites have elected you their spokesperson.

I have a legitimate question that i'm interested in finding the answer to, if you can't see past my snipe at FO3 please don't post.

FNV sold more copies than F03.

Nope. In fact we have no idea which sold better because Bethesda never released the sales figures past the first week. Week one sales figures showed that they were http://news.tgn.tv/fallout-new-vegas-one-week-sales-of-1-4-million-units/, and if you're really, really determined on using NV's sales figures to support your anti-Fallout 3 argument, then I guess you can just pretend the world ended after that first week (but nobody noticed!) and that's all it sold.

Now, just because Bethesda never released official sales figures, doesn't mean we don't have unnoffical ones. But those don't help your anti-Fallout 3 argument either. VGChartz says FO3 sold http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/game/6992/fallout-3/, while http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/game/33663/fallout-new-vegas/. It says FO3 sold http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/game/6993/fallout-3/, and http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/game/33662/fallout-new-vegas/. And it says FO3 sold http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/game/13869/fallout-3/ (more on that in a second), while http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/game/33664/fallout-new-vegas/. And as you may have inferred by the zero copies on the PC figure, VGChartz often has innacurate sales figures and really shouldn't be taken as the truth. But, even if you did believe them, they say Fallout 3 still sold more than New Vegas, so it wouldn't help your argument.

To summarize, there's no official data out there that says New Vegas sold more copies total than Fallout 3, and even the unofficial data doesn't help your argument. As I said, the only way you can use the sales figures to your advantage is if you find a way to convince people the world ended after the first week of New Vegas' release and we're all living in some sort of matrix. You can also do what alex man142 just did and pull the answer out of thin air and hope people are too ignorant to check the facts for themselves, if you're so inclined.

Sold great.
Played, over half dropped out half way through sadly.

However the Devs get the money and the long time fans get to stay honest.. Fight the power.

FO3 is the same thing every time, at least in NV there are different storylines with drastically different consequences.

All the story lines are practically tied in with eatch other and are almost the same.

But they aren't as linear as FO3's, that didn't even give you a choice of the ending.

Perhaps because it makes sense to recruit other factions support, you know, "rigging the game", it actually makes sense they'd want you to do that, and the consequences are drastically different for everything you do, watch the ending slides.

@Jellyman, nuh uh, they let you choose to save the world, blow yourself up, or poison yourself.

FO3 gave you a choice, just not as much of a choice. You can screw the BoS and the entire Wasteland over, do nothing and let things continue pretty much as is, or save the Wasteland and help/join the BoS.

Ah yes, what I really ment to say was that the F3 main quest was completely linear in the sense that it is just "Find dad, kill Enclave, Project Purity." NV had choices in what MQ you did (even though House and Yes Man are a lot alike)

Oh wait

I can say the same thing with Fallout 3,

But I dont have proof

You have proof ?

New Vegas is popular among us, "the dinosaurs who stuck in the past"

this might be true but am pretty sure FO3 fans put down NV and went back to the Capital Wasteland cuz new vegas is exactly the same every time
new vegas, new vegas never changes

And when Fallout 3 did change?

Find Dad
Activate Project Purity
Find the Geck
Join the BOS
Destroy the Enclave

You dont like the BOS, sorry then, but you MUST join them
You want to help the Enclave, sorry, you MUST destroy them

And the water is still radioactive after the end!!! :P

How is that not "the same thing"???

FO3 story was good, it had suspense, drama and action throughout the entire game, the gnr battle with sarah lyons, the enclave taking over the purifier, the enclave landing shock troops all over the map after the waters of life quest, getting kidnapped by the enclave, escaping from raven rock, following liberty prime to take back the purifier, blowing up the mobile platform, all those quests had all the elements of a good story, in new vegas you only have drama, action and suspense at the final battle at the dam. so actually in my opinion, the FO3 story was the better story, easily.

So, being locked in combat every step of the way was a good thing? I hated that i couldn't get through one quest without "ZOMG EXPLOSIONS ENCLAVE AND MUTANTS AND BEARS OH MY PLOT TWIST BOOOM KABLAM SLPOSH PLOT TWIST KERPOW NYEEERROOH BANG"

It was if Micheal Bay and M. Knight Shamalan teamed up to create "S'PLOSIONS WITH PLOT TWISTS!" AKA Fallout 3.

getting kidnapped by the enclave

I just deleted everything that involved a gun fight.

Care to tell me where any drama through dialogue, MINUS James dying, in the main quest that DOESNT involve a massive shoot out or massive explosions? Didn't think so.
