How well will my new PC handle Crysis?

Post » Thu Dec 23, 2010 10:25 pm

Well, I finally made the leap back to PC gaming more than ten years after owning my last gaming PC

I'm really looking forward to finally getting to play Crysis and Crysis Warhead, and eventually Crysis 2.

How well can I expect my machine to play them?

Here's what I have coming: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=14905905

I would wait for the GTX 560 and you'll need a better PSU.

It'll be fine, and the psu is fine too. *waits for the obligatory 'ZOMG YOU NEED 7563 GIGAWATT PSU!!1!!!!' counterargument which is wrong on all counts*

I would wait for the gtx560 as iceman said though, because it'll reduce prices on more powerful cards anyway :)

Thanks guys. I wanted to get a decent gaming rig for a decent price (actually I pushed a little above my original intention). I figure if I feel like I need more at some point I could get another GTX 460 and go SLI, especially if prices drop quite a bit on them.

I'm sure there are tons of more capable rigs out there but I was primarily looking for something that would outperform my PS3 and 360 by a sizable margin.

I think u can max out Crysis 1 and Crysis warhead with 25-40 fps.
I dont know that much about hardware but I know my Pc with a HD5870 1Gb, 4Gb ram, AMD Phenom II X4 955 and a GIGABYTE GA-MA785GT-UD3H can run Crysis and Crysis Wahrhead maxed out on 1680-1050 with 25-40 fps.

'twas indeed a somewhat back to the future linked joke ^^

But ya, psu requirements are always overinflated, a system like mentioned in the OP will draw 350W under extreme load (which will never be in games), and the psu he's got is a very high quality 550W one (providing around 520W max on the 12V rail afaik), so it'll be perfect. The problem stems from bad psu's, which say 500W but supply 200W :)
