How will a 6970 or a 6950 run C2?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 8:44 pm

So i am considering getting a new GPU and i am wondering how the 6950 and the 6970 will run Crysis 2? I must play the game at 1920x1080, what will the performance be?

You should be able to max it.

I've got the 6950 at that reso, though there are other factors to consider other than the gfx card.

Extreme settings, no problems what so ever :)

my 6870 runs pretty good - over 100 FPS on Very High... Drops to about 70 on Extreme and 120 on High...

6970 is a beast

I run the game with a 6870 maxed out 1920x1200, no drops all smooth.
hell, i even run the game with an old 4870 card connected to my LED tv running full hd with almost no hickups also very smooth.

the 6970/50 should run it buttersmooth. we will see when the dx11 comes out though =)

There's no way you can run @ 70 fps with a single HD 6870 @ 1920 X 1080p . Even a GTX 580 can't do this.

Crysis 2 does not support crossfire yet but with a single HD 6970 you can game at 52 average fps on extreme @ 1080p, of course depending on where you are in game, it can drop to 35 fps min from what i saw

I get around 50-55fps in large outdoor scenes with occasional dips into the mid 40's and peaks into the 60's when running on extreeme settings at 1920x1080 with a 6950. Indoor scenes will have a bit higher fps. Not sure how CPU hungry Crysis 2 is though, but these kinds of framerates are from running Intel i5 2400 at stock speeds with a slight OC on the gfx card ( 900/1325 ).

6950 and 6970 will run it super smooth MAXED OUT. But the difference is that the 6970 (which is what I have :D) is a pure BEAST and will last longer than the 6950 (kinda like how the 4870 managed to be longer lasting by a good amount of months over the 4850 and how it performed better).

pencs.....

oh yeah, CPU is very important. A quad core will do fine. I have a AMD phenom x4 quad @ 2.6 ghz. Runs smooth as butter

I can recommend the 6950. You can use a simple bios tweak (less than 5 mins of work) to turn it into a stock 6970. That's what I've done and Crysis 2 runs very smooth on extreme and a 1920x1200 resolution, too smooth actually. So bring on teh DX11 patch! :)

Btw, make sure you pair it with a good CPU. I had a C2D E8400@ 4Ghz before and went to an I5 2500K @ stock and Crysis 2 runs much better now. More overal smootheness and less framedrops.

Perfectly means 25fps average? There is no way a 5770 gets a lot more than that with crysis 2 maxed out at 1080p and 25fps average is unplayable.

Bios swap is a gamble as the memory on the 6950 will be running close to or beyond it's limit and sometimes the last shaders are blocked off for a reason. If you are unlucky you end up with graphical corruption, crashes and worst case permanent hardware damage.

You don't need a 6970 to max out crysis 2.PC games are just ported versions of console games. There are no XBOX 720 or PS4 until 2015. 6970 or GTX 590 is overpowered for the current shape of PC gaming.

Well you clearly don't know what you are talking about.

Hell My 4550 could run Crysis Warhead on max and everyone is always saying Crysis 2 is a downgrade, so gtfo and go shove your money in someone elses face. Asshole.

Hell man... I can run Crysis 2 with my old 4850 with mid details @ 1680x1050 with fps>45... It's really a shame. Even Crysis 1 makes problems at max details because of the large textures (my 4850 has only 512mb).

The card will max it with ease, as will weaker cards. Even later 5xxx series cards can handle it on max.
