How will Fallout learn from Skyrim?

Post » Tue Jul 17, 2012 10:56 am

The option to craft almost any weapon or armour that is in the game.

Crafting guns, let alone most armors, doesn't seem like a good Fallout gimmick as the Gun Runner's basically hold a monopoly on firearms production by keeping the blueprints for firearm production under a tight lock, whereas many of the best armors DT-wise are pre-war tech; no way the character should be crafting Power armor.

it needs to have post-ending gameplay, and it will.

One of the few things I missed from 3 was the ability to make crazy weapons out of scrap (rock-it launcher, dart gun etc)-granted there were only a handful of them but it was a cool idea. The ability to craft your own armor would also be interesting. The ability to go all tribal on your power armor, giving it a paint job and adding new parts like bones, skulls, feathers or animal hide would also be great.

Although I agree that to be able to craft most of the weapons and armor would be to give a great big middle finger to Fallout canon.

I'd like to see wastelanders and raiders with such weapons. Rather than meeting raiders in pretty much their underwear, but wielding big shiny flamethrowers! Would look more genuine if they had Rock-It launchers or railway rifles :)

1. I hate that, when I talk to someone I want to talk to that person, not be interupted by some crap happening on the side.
2. Meh.
3. Insects aren't tame and won't be. Horses are extinct. Brahmins are slow. Yao Guais and Deathclaws eat you. So what is left to mount? Molerats?
1. I thought was a great addition. If your interrupted just kill what stops you, then skip through what you already heard. Or it could keep track of it and you could continue from where you left off. And most times in Skyrim Nothing interrupted you. Dragons rarely attacked towns.
2. Yeah bounty's were cool in Skyrim. It meant infinite quests. Yeah it was simple quests, but quests all the same. Roaming around at random is fun, but sometimes a quest is a nice break from pointless roaming.
3. Horses have never actually been confirmed as extinct. They appeared in all roads. And may have been mentioned by Tabitha. The battle cattle could be horses. When I first heard that though I got this great image of a Brahmin with miniguns mounted on its sides, helmets with a plume, and a spear between the two heads. But that however is very unlikely. The same happened with wind Brahmins. I thought there would be Brahmins with large majestic wings and a flowing mane, and that never came to fruition. Although it could be Brahmins, bred for speed to travel. Either way, horses could be in.

Marriage, I'm neutral on. Time isn't really a concern, since time in there games goes by a second in real life is a minute in game. There are those who want it, and it wouldn't cause any negatives. So I see no reason it should be omitted. One thing I loved from skyrim was that something large to the storyline, the civil war, didn't need to be done. It was mentioned by many people, and was an extra questline. Also, the giants and mammoths could be encountered at any time, and would kill with a single hit. Creating armors and weapons could be cool if done properly. You shouldn't be able to create a plasma rifle. Way to high tech for a single man in a barely educated wasteland to create. But something like spears, muskets, bow and arrows, things like that would work. Also leather armor, metal armor, maybe combat armor could work. Depends though. Power armor is a no though. It all depends on how complicated the item is. Radiant AI was going to be in oblivion, but was toned down.

And was added to Skyrim, in a simpler manner. I have been pushing for this in a different thread, as this sounds great for fallout. Companions in Skyrim did seem half done. But some good things from them was the ability to hire people. Also the brawls were really cool. The animal AI was good too. Wolves would swarm in packs and circle around. But they were really easy to kill. Also, the ability to contract diseases was a good addition in elder scrolls. I cant think of anything else right now, but maybe more later.

The real time conversation thing in Skyrim has its benefits. For instance one time I encountered this Orc in the middle of the woods and in the middle of the convo I hear wolves approach so I exit the convo and fight the wolves alongside Orcman. This felt really natural and was a cool moment. The only time when this backfires is when there are forced convos that start without you wanting to. I had an example posted somewhere....

Here it is!:

The example I'm about to use for this topic has to be the most hilarious thing that has happened to me in this game:

So I fast travel to Dawnstar to visit the museum and take a quest when a dragon attacks the town. I ride to the museum on shadowmere as fast as I could to get away from the dragon (it landed pretty close to me and I FT to the edge of town) and Silus and that mage lady are having their scripted argument while the dragon is attacking town. As it flies overhead, mage lady looks at it while rebuking Silus and I dismount my horse, take out my bow, take aim and...Silus decides to engage me in conversation. I fire my arrow (by complete accident) and it lands at his feet. I exit conversation and try to fire some more arrows at the dragon. In the middle of this fight (like Pseron Wyrd) a bandit decides to interrupt me, talk to me and give me some stolen goods (wtf...). I was in the middle of drawing my bow and I accidentally fire my arrow at him. It lands right in his chest and he proceeds to run away into a corner or something. I turn my attention back to the dragon and then the hunter decides to talk to me (both instances are forced conversations >_>) and I give him back his stolen item. End conversation again. A couple minutes later me and the Dawnstar guards manage to kill the dragon.

Lesson for Beth to learn: Stop forcing me into conversations and cutscenes in which I can't move, its really annoying!

The one thing FO4 really needs to learn from Skyrim is having true "freedom" based gameplay which means no choices and cosequences for anything.

I hope you aren't being serious

I don't know a single thing Fallout should learn from Skyrim. It should be learning from New Vegas instead.

No. She's talking about the legion. Horses are, for all intensive purposes, extinct. Even if they weren't extinct, why should they be in the game. That would just be needlessly TESifying Fallout. Pointless and insulting to those who want TES and Fallout to be kept as far apart as possible.
