How will Skyrim score on the reviews?

Post » Tue Jul 06, 2010 9:55 am

I know, at at that time they'll be having BF3, Rage. Perhaps W2. Already got Crysis 2. Those slaughter the Skyrim graphics. Brink graphics got like 6-7/10 from most reviews, and even I thought those looked pretty good.

BF3 and W2 will not look significantly better than Skyrim on the consoles. Most of the previews last month said Skyrim is gorgeous.

@OP I'm expecting a metacritic average of 93+.

Which reviews? sites that now host Beth's adds and Todd's exclusives will give it a 10 because you don't bite the hand that feeds you , they already reserved 10 by not giving it to the game that came out last week and deserve it.Metacritic is a different story , the rate depends by the number of bioware employees that will give it 0/10.
Judging by the games Beth has released recently a 3/10 is a much more realistic target.

As much as I love TES and cannot WAIT for Skyrim, I will be honest and say that it will get between a 9 to 9.5. Shot in the dark, but look at The Witcher 2, as much hype as it got and how much "ZOMGZERG" fans it got, it still got a 9 on some gamesites.

The games I think you are talking about were NOT by Todd Howard. The most recent game that Todd did was Fallout 3. Just lettin' you know

No game ever got a full 10/10 from all the reviewers, and the later BGS games tend to get rates higher than 9/10, so I say 9-10/10.

I'm guessing like 8-9/10, because reviewers always consider graphics, and Skyrim's graphics definitely aren't 10/10...
Graphics will bring down the number a bit.

I think they'll be considering the visuals quality, like, the scene you take in when you first step out and look over Skyrim, that sort of breath-taking visual/environment will easily curve the scores in favor of TESV (lets face it, from what we've seen, the environments look pretty amazing).

You're thinking of games Bethesda SOFTWORKS (not Bethesda Game Studios, who make TES and Fallout) has PUBLISHED. Meaning, Bethesda didn't make them, other people did and they just printed the game and marketed it and shipped it.

I remember a site gave New Vegas a 6 when it was released... but the review was pulled because of how much backlash it was causing.

Dragon Age 2 was not as bad as the "cool kids" say, I rather enjoyed it and I have been playing RPG's since before Baldur's Gate. It was a good game, albeit not the same style as Origins. If it were the initial installment in its own series the game would not be knocked as much which shows you how customer opinions are just as skewed as revewers.

I imagine it will do 9-9.5, but I hope for 9.5-10. The numbers do not really mean anything since you have to read the review to see if the game features are things you will enjoy. People who rely solely upon scores are going to be sadly disappointed a lot of the time. Unless everyone gives the game a 7 or below it is probably a good game that most will enjoy in one way or another.

If Dragon Age 2 has taught me anything is that high profile games are going to get high scores, whether they deserve them or not. After that game got some 90%+ scores from some mainstream sites I will never pay any attention to reviews like those again.

What I like to do is read a well written bad player review, as those will actually tell me what problems the game may have and I can then determine if that is something that would bother me or not.

Depends on the reviewer, but I′m expecting a similar score as Fallout 3 or maybe a bit less edit:(innovation in gameplay should have it′s weight on a game review). Only time will tell

Yeah, every game that Bethesda Game Studios has developed has been excellent (at least 9/10). On that note, I expect an average score of 9 to 10 for Skyrim.

Few to none of the Bethesda Game Studios crew takes part in the publishing (or developing) of Bethesda Softworks's non-Elder Scrolls games. For instance, Fallout: New Vegas was developed entirely by Obsidian Entertainment (with no help from Todd Howard and the BGS crew). BGS was and is busy making Skyrim, for all of us TES fans. :tes:

9.5

I wont be surprised to see 10s, however. Few companies put the same amount of effort into their franchises like BGS does

Yep. It's not everyday a game gets a perfect 10 though but MW, OB and FO3 got them. Skyrim so far looks good and sites and magazines are building quite some hype around it...so I don't see why it shouldn't be a 9.5 or a 10.

I'm pretty sure it will get a fat ten across the board, and i'm also optimistic that it will deserve that score.

Funny thing about this question - I can very comfortably predict that it'll get about 9.5 on average, and that really has nothing at all to do with the game. It's just a particularly high profile game and it won't be unavoidably horrible, so it'll get about a 9.5. Reviewers have to leave themselves enough room to make enough light criticisms that it looks as if they're doing something other than fellating the publishers (which is why it generally won't get a 10, though it's sure to get at least a few), but they can't - they quite simply and quite straightforwardly CAN'T - pillory a game from a franchise like TES or from a publisher like Beth. If they dared to do so, no matter how deserved it might be, they'd only lose ad revenue, lose access and face the wrath of the fans. They simply can't and won't take that risk, so 9.5 it'll be.

Further proof that the scores are dependent on how much money the publisher of the game bribes the critics with. Morrowind is a much better game than Oblivion. But they had a bigger budget to spend on advertising (reviews) by the time Oblivion came out. So it got better scores.

Now this, my friends, is a perfect example of flawed reasoning. You could have spoken about Oblivion's scores in comparison with Fallout and maybe you would have had a decent point, but your opinion just doesn't prove anything.
