How will the forums be like when Skyrim is released?

Post » Fri Aug 26, 2011 7:07 pm

I'm not sure if this is the right place or if threads like this one are allowed. But very well...

A few weeks ago the forums were flooding (in a good sense) with threads and every little bit of information we could find, we shared it here and talked about them for pages. Now I notice the active posters are lesser in number, probably to avoid too much information before the release. I personally still post in discussions but stay away from new hands-on articles and previews. Anyway, since I joined a few months ago and jumped right onto the Skyrim hype track, I was wondering how the boards will be like when Skyrim is finally released. Will everyone be posting their adventures and screens of their characters, or will people stay away from the forums until they've finished a first playthrough to avoid possible spoilers? Will it be swarming with tech related issues and bug reports, or will it be positive, everyone saying how much they like the game? It will most probably split in two like the other games "general discussion" and "spoilers" but hopefully it won't be quiet and slow like the Oblivion or Fallout boards, or will it? How was it after the other big games, Oblivion or Fallout 3 were released?

I think Freddo said that when FO3 came out, there was about 5k on the forums.

I get the feeling it will be more negative because the people who are enjoying the game will be busy playing it.

I predict something comparable with an Argonian invasion. The servers will not be prepared.

Judging by what they were like after Oblivion came out full of over-excited people hurling abuse at each other
Best avoided for a month or so

This is the busiest forum for a single game I have even been on in my life and I'm sure once the game gets released it will reach its peak then slowly start to regress once the flood of feedback and advice/help threads start to diminish a little bit.

If the game turns out terrible though expect a lot of heat.

Because of the hype I'm expecting people's opinions to go to the extremes:

OH MY GOD BEST GAME EVER

BOOO THIS GAME svckS

etc. until things calm down a bit and more reasonable opinions are formed.

I'd also expect a ton of activity on the forums. The Oblivion board is slow now (except for the modding one of course) but it was very active when the game was released. And yeah I would expect people posting spoilers in the wrong places. The moderators will move the posts, but I'd be careful with reading threads.

Gonna be full of whining trolls that have nothing better to do than complain about no Acrobatics, Arena, Athletics etc... The rest of us will be playing the game.

Pretty barren I'd say.

People will be too busy avoiding spoilers and getting deep into Skyrim.

I remember being on these exact forums when Oblivion was released. I was super excited about playing the game, I loved it, and I came to share the love.

And the forum was filled with HATE. You'd think the Bethesda guys had just [censored] everybody on the forums. People HATED EVERYTHING BECAUSE EVERYTHING HAD CHANGED.

So very depressing.

It was only a few weeks later when I returned I realised: most people loved the game. But they were busy playing the game. And the vocal minority were on a holy jihad on this forum about everything which was different to their own expectations.

I expect exactly the same thing to happen with Skyrim. I may well like it; I'll come here, and be depressed. So I plan to mostly play the game.

Hey I like my arenas, buster. :P
What if they removed something that you were utterly counting on then you realize it's not there?

My opinion has not changed in the slightest after 5 years. Oblivion was a huge let down but somehow a lot of the changes from Oblivion to Skyrim seem positive...

If not, then I will give my 2 cents.

They were probably smack talking about it too because they haven't gotten it yet, trying to fit in

I reckon they'd be like this: http://www.proprofs.com/flashcards/upload/a5526214.jpg

If we're lucky, though, they'd still be like this: http://preorderskyrim.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/skyrim-forum.jpg?w=300&h=218
