I think it would be intersting if you started as a child. The story could be that your family is killed by a dragon, and you are raised by a wise old man. Destined to become a dragon slayer.

The Prison was a great idea from Beth, but they could be more creative in Skyrim not recyceling the same idea over and over again

I would imagine a bit like in pirates of the carribean when jack is in prison and a canon ball destoy the wall of the prison but it would be different. you would be in prison and then a dragon would just rip a part half of the cell you're in.

My ideas?

• You're an amnesiac who wakes up in some Skyrim town. You're rescuers speculate you got a heavy blow to the head in the civil war.
  
• You're a scion of a noble house in Cyrodiil seeking revenge for your whole family's mysterious murder. You keep you're identity a secret to maintain the element of surpirse - the assasins still think you died as well. (this one is very likely cause the character will be Dragonborn - i.e. related to the Septim bloodline)
  
• You received a vision that compelled you to travel to Skyrim and you keep your past a secret simply out of caution.
  
• The traditional prisoner gimmic.

What I would like to see for a beginning:

Your village was destroyed by giants when you were very young and many people from your village including yourself were taking a slaves for the giants. You grow into advlthood as a slave/prisoner of the giants. One day another giant lord visits the giant lord that has you as a captive. They make a bet and your giant lord looses and agrees to give up ten of his slaves as payment. You are shackled and chained together with the other slaves and are being lead to the other giants stronghold when an avalanche happens and kills everyone except you and you are able to escape.

Maybe I'll see if I can create a mod with this scenario if the game doesn't begin something like this.

well i got the mag today and it sums up that the dragon born will be a lowly prisoner.... now if your the dragon born is still yet to be confirmed but being you get the dragon shout abilities i would think so.

I'm sure there will be a press start screen before anything else.

Who are you kidding? Public executions were the parties of the middle ages. The executioner would be popular with a bunch of people if they didn't wear the hood. The hood was to keep the executioner safe from vengeance of the dead's family.

You could start as a prisoner of war, with there being a civil war and all. That being said, I'd be suprirsed if either side took the time to take prisoners.

Dragons will probably come and blow open and exit for you. You'll leave, and being if your good or evil, either try to save the town or try to get the heck out of dodge with the most amount of goodies possible. Either way you'll get knocked out and left for dead, and then the last of the blades comes and finds you there. You wake up a day or to later, he gives you a quest to start finding your dragon slaying powers at some special spot or from some special person. After that, you get to choose where to go.

I don't really know...I have my speculation that it'll start out completely different than previous games though...

what about a Rocky training montage with Max von Sydow coaching you on how to become a Champion? just a thought...

It would be nice if your starting point was different for some races. I would love to be an Argonian tourist who needed a vacation from the humidity and mosquitoes in the Black Marsh.

I'd actually like to see an intro where the beginning is race-dependent.

Or, if not race-dependent, then perhaps you begin as an orphan in an orphanage and your parents are said to have died in something that causes death. You are then adopted by this strange old guy with a katana. Or maybe you just grow up there and it gets exploded by a dragon or something that causes explosions. Then somehow Esbern appears and you have to go see these guys with beards. Actual beards, not painted on beards, and they are grey in color.
