So how will you go about on your first playthrough?

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 12:23 am

We don't know what the game will really be like (apart from good but I'm referring to atmosphere and the world) but what will you do when you are set free in Skyrim?

Before I embark on the main quest I'll be preparing myself to be a competent fighter. I will need adequate weapons, armour and skill, possibly some financial stability. So there will likely be a city/town or village near the beginning which will be a base so I can get odd quests, maybe a job i.e. some sort of repeatable quest, then go hunting and sell my wares. I may perhaps join a local guild or travel to a ney arbtown, no doubt a quest will take me to one. I'm hoping to make a hunter character so hopefully pelts and meat are now worth your time hunting wildlife.

Money needs to be harder to get and/or items need to be more expensive otherwise it would kind of defeat the purpose of hunting etc.

I feel I rushed Oblivion on my first playthrough, I went straight through the main quest first which is kind of ridiculous. I haven't started RPing until recently so now I'm mega hyped for this game.

So what about you?

I hope they don't make the main quest hectic like Oblivions, I don't really like the sense of urgency. Dosen't work well with RP:ing if you're goal isn't the main quest.

My first character will likely not do the main quest, i'll probably mostly explore, do side quests and maybe finish one or two guild questlines.

I agree the whole urgency does ruin RPing. Maybe at a certain stage in the main quest (preferably in the latter half) an event that requires urgency unfolds and you have x amount of days in which to do it or told that on a certain day some event will happen so you need to prepare for it.

Wish it was November.

As soon as I'm free to do whatever I want, I'll find the first major city and talk to everyone in sight. Depending on what I find, I might try to steal a few things that look interesting and not-too-hard to steal. I'll join any guilds there and accept any quests, then I'll pick a quest that takes me to a nearby dungeon and go do that. After finishing that dungeon, I'll probably just go out and explore and turn in the quest later.

I always explore and do side quests and get my character ready for the main quest before starting the main quest. I did it with Oblivion, knowing that nothing would happen until I was ready. All TES games have been like that, the main quest only starts when you want it to and finishes when you want it to.

I'm thinking that when I first get out of the prison, I'm going to find a place to take a bath. :) After that.........I'm thinking I'm going to need good fire resistant clothing/armor and the best weapon I can find with any $ I can barter for with any items I don't have to steal. I'll be doing all the things you mentioned especially finding the Mage's Guild and joining up so I'll have a place to sleep. All this assuming these things remain like Oblivion. Exploring is my favorite thing so I'll take things as they come.

I hurried to Jauffre and then to find Martin and close the first gate in Oblivion but then slowed it way down when I realized whatever it was would still be waiting there as if frozen in time. We'll see if they do that sense of urgency this time. Since the dragons are mostly not scripted, I may feel my own sense of urgency if they're wiping out towns, etc.

Play through the game and let the world take me where it wants to, Do as many side quests as is humanly possible and spend an absurd amount of time levelling up.

I will play the main quest till it gives me a logical point to break off and do other things, then I'll go around the closest settlement or town and pick some side quests, get some gear, maybe join a guild if one catches my fancy, maybe do a little exploring or hunting and just continue doing stuff like that while sporadically doing chunks of the main quest at convient/logical times. Then once I get a house I'll start collecting items I like and making little museums with the houses I acquire.

Steal stuff. Probably join the thieves guild as well.

Anybody else going to not reload a save in their first play-through (except for bugs and death of course)? If I get arrested then I plan to go to jail.

Since I have so many character ideas and can't decide if I wantto be a mage, a warrior or a thief I think will simply play the game and see what happens. Since the new levelling system doesnt force you along a certain character build I will simply play and see how my character turns out. Knowing my playstyle, I assume I'm going to end up as a tough warior with a bit of magic. Unless I find the dark brotherhood early in the game and choose to become an assasin :ninja:

The first thing I will do is head to the nearest town/city to get some quests, buy some good gear, mess with the new ai, steal some stuff, get in trouble... :whistling: Then i'll join any guild I feel like joining and maybe to some quest with that guild. Still, my main goal will be to explore Skyrim and simply see what happens. I'll start the main quest only a bit later, once I feel my character is strong enough to ba called dragonborn :toughninja:

I think you have a great idea, i will probably do the same. Who knows, it might end up being a good occasion to try to jailbreak

I'll just do whatever like I did in OB. NO plans for first playthrough except I'll probably be a magic stealth hybrid.

On my first playthrough, I will follow the Main Quest until I get the quest to search out the Walls and start collecting shout words. By the time I get to this stage I think I will have already faced a dragon to enable me to get a word from a wall. Then I will head off exploring for more walls and dragons. I will join a guild (not sure which yet) to enable me to finance the exploration trips for these walls. And complete quests in nearby towns on my travels.

Then after re-starting with my 10th Character (love this part of Elderscrolls games) I will see the MQ through from start to finish.

I would likely see how the AI reacts to things first before questing/RPing and seeing how I might want to play, as I did with Oblivion and Morrowind. A decent player will have no problem running roughshod over the game.. surely the Action RPG difficulty will be minimal, but I'd rather get my expectations more even keel before throwing my poor character to the wolves and enjoy the elements of the game that enticed me to play.

Here is what I said in a similar thread:

As far back as she can remember, she heard them whisper in her dreams, but, she knew not the meaning of the dragon's tongue. These dreams haunted her, and it seemed that her need to learn of what the dragons spoke had been burned into her very soul.

To start the game after prison exit, I will try to do what I believe that particular character would do. In this case, my Nordic shamaness, Sibyl. Alchemy and magic will be her forte. There would be different responses, of course, depending on where the game actually starts, whether If in a town, or in a remote area, a bit away from a town.

About the name "Sibyl." - From Greek Σιβυλλα (Sibylla), meaning "prophetess, sibyl". My understanding is that in Norse mythology, Poetic Edda, the Voluspa, is the “Sibyl’s Prophecy.”

-------------

Survival is primal, and caution will be the key.

Shaken, as a result of her ordeals as a prisoner, Sibyl will move stealthly, like a hunted animal, doing those things necessary to live. Regardless of her starting point, after having been a prisoner for a while, Sibyl will want to rid herself of the filth and stink of where she had been held captive.

A water source, a lake, or stream, or if in a town, perhaps, a well would provide a water source, with which to wash, or bathe, as appropriate. A warm bath would be a dream.

Hopefully, early exploration, whether in a starter dungeon, or not, will have provided her with the fundamental tools required for immediate survival.

Her rationale will be to try to determine if the nearest town, or the town she starts in, is safe for her. After determining that a town is reasonably safe, Sibyl will try to get a perspective on the local surroundings. Soon, better clothing and equipment, as well as coin, will be needed. She will eavesdrop on conversations in the streets, shops, inns and taverns, collecting bits of information, while gathering clues to help her determine her next move.

The main quest will not be entered immediately. Sibyl will need time to establish herself, to understand the political factions of the region, and perhaps, to establish alliances.

But sometimes, there are those nights when dragon whispers invade her dreams. Sometimes she awakes...shouting.

I'll probably be a warrior/mage hybrid and go about doing whatever comes to min, trying to get as much as I can from a single playthrough. I'm not much of a replayer, really.

Im going to make a maximum fat and maximum strong (appearance) nord with a massive bushy beard. I will get two axes and I will go do whatever it is a massive Nord man with a huge beard and two axes does.

Probably raid a few dungeons, maybe do some side-quests, steal some [censored], then after a few days I'll start the main quest and do it casually.

Pending on what the first main quest is and where it starts I will either go to the first town look around admire the scenery and new skins/archintecture aswell as game mechanics then if its close or very interesting i will head over to the quest guy talk to him and see what he has to say.

After the decision is made up then i will do quests in the town go to a store see if theres any thing good to get then head out to complete the quest after i feel like i have em all done (chains and all) i will continue to the 2nd quest of MQ and do the same thing.

I generally try to do everything in the game on the first playthrough, which will be on the xbox 360.

I will then move to the pc, get some mods, and roleplay!
