How will you fill the time to Skyrim?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:51 pm

So The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is being released in more than 10 months. I am not here to debunk or discuss that release date. Rather, I'm here to ask a simple question: how is everyone in the community going to pass their recreation time until then?

Real life duties, responsibilities and relationships aside, what sort of activities, games, books or other fun things will you be doing in between now and then before the game is released? Is it specifically to distract you from the hype of the game, is it just something to do before the game conveniently comes out, or is there something else releasing or occurring in between now and Skyrim that you're looking forward to playing/seeing/reading/doing?

For me, I don't really see much in terms of gaming that I'll be doing between now and Skyrim, so I'll likely fill my time with the MMO EVE Online, a game I've always loved but never given the proper time. I may also pick up Pokemon Black or White and play that as well. I'm also really looking forward to seeing the final Harry Potter film, the fantasy/comedy "Your Highness," and the 80s comedy film "Take Me Home Tonight."

That's just about it. What about you guys?

Well i'm going to be reading The Difference Engine by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling for awhile. So far it is very good. After that i'm probably going to read Boneshaker by Cherie Priest or A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin.

I have a few games that i'll be playing for awhile but i'm definitely going to be picking up Radiant Historia for the DS on February 22nd. I've been playing Skies of Arcadia Legends this past week. I decided it was time to actually completely playthrough that game and so far it's been awesome. I also plan on restarting and finishing The Last Remnant sometime soon. I'm getting my JRPG fix right now. :P

Gibson? Sounds excellent. I just read Neuromancer last November, so perhaps I should check out your choice there.

I am curious to see how Two Worlds II holds up. I was never impressed with the first, but I did hear that the second has some significant improvements, so I'll keep an open mind for it.

And Uncharted 3 completely slipped my mind! How foolish of me.

I, uh, don't think that word means what you think it means. I believe you're looking for "contemplating". :P

I'll be working all the overtime I can to save up for a PC. Seeing as I want to save as much as possible, I'll be watching and reading the piles of films and books I got at Christmas and checking the forums. Hopefully that will keep me entertained enough so that I don't resort to spending my cash.

I like how the main unit of time on this forum is 'until the next Bethesda game'.

Same here except for RIFT which i believe is multiplayer only which has never been my thing with rpgs. Also enjoying my new hobby of audiophile quality headphones and audio upgrades. Just got some JBL Control One speakers and enjoying them with plenty of music especially classical which is great for this quiet time of the year. Other pleasures before SKYRIM's glorious release are purchases of DAWN OF WAR 2 RETRIBUTION expansion and DRAGON AGE 2 with plenty of horror/sci-fi movies in the mix and of course long game sessions of DAGGERFALL,MORROWIND,OBLIVION and FALLOUT 3.

Oh and some SUPREME COMMANDER 2 and STARCRAFT 2. Yea i dont think i'll be bored when it comes to free time :D

I've been replaying the Deus Ex series. Still on 1, doing Invisible War next (no, not as good at the first one, still a good game, I enjoyed it), and then I'm going to be getting Human Revolution which, if you ask me, is actually starting to look fantastic. I'll probably be doing reinstalls of Sacrifice and Knights of the Old Republic, and getting some other older games like Anachronox and Grim Fandago. I'll also be playing Dragon Age II, and eventually Duke Nukem Forever and Diablo III. I'll be building up a new computer, soon, so by the time Skyrim is out I'll have a beefed up machine and I won't have to worry about performance issues. I'll also be spending my time writing poetry and short stories, as well as investing in a guitar so I can start playing again. Before Skyrim comes out, I'll play Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion, to get myself into an Elder Scrolls mood.

This is all assuming I will have time. Curse you, real life. <_<

Playing Oblivion.

I'm also right in the middle of a pretty cool play through of FO3 (level 16)...
I bumped the difficulty slider up a couple notches this time, and I am having a blast with this character.

It's making me avoid engaging enemies in certain situations, like when I'm outnumbered 5:1, or so. I die a lot!
Level-ups come a lot less often too, and I am actually using stealth boys this time. I've used FWE to limit the number of skill points I get at level-up (getting 8 points per level), and I have put most of them in to Sneak... so my other skills are pretty minimal.

I'll have no problem entertaining myself for the next 10 months.

Well, I'm actually still working on Fallout 3 since I waited until I could get it for 10 bucks before picking up a copy. :P
Other than that, I'm going to go back and play Resident Evil 4 again with my girlfriend and Dead Space if I can find a cheap enough copy. Too bad Skyrim is coming out during my first year of college, sure I'll find time though.
