How will you start off?

Post » Mon Jul 05, 2010 12:39 pm

I'm not exactly sure how I'll start. I mean obviously the game is meant for Multiplayer, but I do love a good story. So that leads me to a question: When you play campaign on the internet, do you still get the story? And I've read the compendium and stuff, I'm pretty obsessed, I'm just not exactly sure how that part plays out.

You can play the entire storyline in multiplayer campaign mode. It has the same maps, the same objectives and cutscenes(filled with the characters of the different players). The only difference with SP is that you play with other people, rather than with bots versus bots. The whole thing is explained in this topic: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1154126-unofficial-brink-faq/

Note that you gain twice the XP for doing the campaign online.

I've got 8+ friends that are getting the game on release day, so we are gonna jump right in at the deep end, have a bit of fun then some coop and sp when noones online.

I'll be lucky if ONE of my friends gets the game on release. They're not buying into the hype. It's all good I'm sure I'll be playing with some people from the forums..

Well I am going to start as a Medium Operative.

Might do my first Campaign in SP.

Preferably I would like to jump online campaign with some friends.

You can also co-op against the bots.

Maybe true, but the Devs did say during one of their demo play throughs. Some of the people playing the game did not realize they were playing against the A.I and got upset (for lack of a better word) because of how good the AI was. So i think playing solo against the AI will be plenty of preparation for online, even if you start off at lvl 20.

Im aware of that, but having the AI pass as humans does not mean they are going to use the same strategies. Humans have trends and patterns, and don't always play logically. In general, a computer is going to go for the "best" strategy, while a skilled player may expect you to try and counter that strategy, and take counter-measures of their own.

A lot of high end play is figuring out what the enemy is doing with very limited information, and acting according to that, and I doubt it will be the same between PvNPC and PvP. It also includes misleading the enemy into thinking you're doing something in order to gain an advantage. I don't expect NPCs, no matter how advanced, to use such abstract play.

True. NPCs are usually never as skilled as (some/most) real people. I usually play on the hardest difficulty so the gap between offline and online is usually smaller.

Good example is UT3 (And UT2004). You play single player on normal, you will get slaughtered online.
But for me playing with UT3 bots on GOD mode is still easy.

I just realized something

Medium Soldier, Medium Engineer, Medium Medic, Medium Operative(4)

Light Soldier, Light Engineer, Light Medic, Light Operative (4)

Heavy Soldier, Heavy Engineer,, Heavy Medic, Heavy Operative (4)

We will have created a total of 12 characters after doing this (create every specialized class for every body type)

What will the 4 others be? :stare:

Hybrids for Pub play? For public play I'll make hybrids of 2 classes to be usefull if I need to switch classes.

Mix and matchers so you can switch classes midplay.

And we know you'll be bouncing around nearby as back up. Two heavy medics and a sneaky operative. Sounds like a machinma to me.

Well, I think I got one class in my head then.. ''Default'' - Medium Body Type, only Universal Abilities, and the rest gets filled in Soldier, hell yeeaah.. Not mixed and matched though :l

Eeeh... I'll see what I do with the other slots, but mix n' matching will probably be what I'll do :P

Is this better for your sensitive virgin eyes, young ones?
No but seriously, I'm not old?
