How will you travel?

Post » Sat Jul 10, 2010 11:20 pm

The question.

When you get Skyrim will you walk or run through your first play through? Mounts are also included in the run/walk since they (I hope) have toggle-able switches (If they are added anyways).

I am the type of guy who enjoys walking through the entire first play through of my game. It helps me feel more connected to the world and I get to smell the roses along the way. I tend to take games like Oblivion which can be beat in 8 hours and make them last 3 months before I finish the main campaign. So I was wondering, how many of you out there will take the time to walk around, or will you all be running to find your first dragon the second you step foot into Skyrim?

I would also like to say this isn't about what is better, I am just interested in the majority of your play styles and whether or not many of you will walk in skyrim :)

I try to move like I would if I was in the situation, you know, roleplaying... Usually that means walking, especially indoors, but sometimes I run outside.

I'll definitely not run indoors unless I'm in a hurry or have been there before and the place is huge. Outside I'll basically sneak, so you should add an option to the Poll, "I'll be sneaking!"

They are included in the walk/run since your horse has a walking speed and running speed too, or hopefully it does.

When playing seriously, I always walk everywhere. I rarely ever use the run button, especially when traveling. If in combat, then yes, I'll use it.

Probably alternate between the two, though in Oblivion, I tend to run except under certain circumstances, like decorating rooms, because walking is simply too slow for me. In Morrowind, I'd typically run for a bit, then walk for some time since fatigue would drain when running. So how often I'll run or walk ultimately depends on whether running drains fatigue or not, I'm sure.

Always run but I'd like the game to give some incentives to walk in some situations, for example on an ice bridge if you don't walk it may collapse under your feet or trigger an avalanche.

Sometimes you have to stop or like slow down, take stock and be one with your surroundings, and all that killing is like bad for your karma and those spells get real heavy with your chi and you have to recharge and just chill and........oh, wow, a cloud.

I will only walk between places because it makes the game more immersive, I like being bored, and I have a large gash in my head which has left me permanently brain damaged.

I often try to move realistically - you know, walking unless in a hurry. But it's just so slow...

Although I love to roll play I cant see myself walking all the time i just haven't got the patience. Also i'll be playing on the xbox most probably, and holding the anolog at half tilt for long periods of time does my thumb no good. So I've gone for option 3. Jogging while out and about.

Walk indoors and within cities/towns, run in the wilderness and most dungeons.

Unless I'm just messing around or testing, in which cases my characters obviously run everywhere.

Run:

Wlking takes too much time. For me the "game" aspects of puzzle-solving, combat, finishing quests, and other logistics are the main thing - not spending time looking at the scenery.

If we get levitation, I hope it *won't* be a means of travel. It should feel powerful and unique rather than simplistic and trivial.

For me, I'll be mostly running outside during travel (incl on horse), but sneak during the hunt (unless I'm chasing). Inside dungeons I tend to walk or sneak a lot, also when I'm way overpowered, unless I know it's clear or have long passages.

Actually, I do like walk abouts in the beginning. Walking slowly to observe my surroundings and pick some flowers and herbs and mushrooms. I found in MW that if I always ran I would miss cave entrances and interesting bits in the landscape. Same with Oblivion. So my start of TES games now involves walking and uncovering as much of the map as I can by strolling along and seeing what's out there. Later I either run or fast travel and in MW I used to levitate quite a lot to get somewhere especially over mountains that were difficult to transverse. I even like to occasionally just stand still and look all around for paths, entrances to places and other interesting things. Later, I've seen most everything and involve myself in completing quests, solving puzzles, and learning all I can about characters.

When I said levitate...I was half kidding.
