How would Bosmer build their homes?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 8:00 pm

All very inspiring stuff. I still reckon that if Bethesda were to make a game for every province in Tamriel, Valenwood will most likely be the very last one they would do. I like the thought of the Bosmer buolding their homes out of solidified, hollowed out, giant bugs and grubs and using tree resin and amber as a sort of glue, I also like the idea of the more traditional villages/towns being like the Ewok village. Maybe when I find the time, I should start on some concept art.

They feast on their father at sixual maturity, and, without a husband, their mothers bloat to house-sized polyps. Residence.

Ancient Aldmeri city deep within the rainforests of Valenwood.

A Dance in Fire I think explains a bit more on this.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:A_Dance_in_Fire,_Chapter_4 talks of the Wild Hunt:

"
It was as if a crack in reality had opened wide. A flood of horrific beasts, tentacled toads, insects of armor and spine, gelatinous serpents, vaporous beings with the face of gods, all poured forth from the great hollow tree, blind with fury. They tore the Khajiiti in front of the temple to pieces. All the other cats fled for the jungle, but as they did so, they began pulling on the ropes they carried. In a few seconds time, the entire village of Vindisi was boiling with the lunatic apparitions of the Wild Hunt.
Over the babbling, barking, howling horde, Scotti heard the Cyrodiils in hiding cry out as they were devoured. The Nord too was found and eaten, and both Bretons. The wizard had turned himself invisible, but the swarm did not rely on their sight. "

This is what the Bosmer get in return for the Green Pact.
I think its therefore unlikely that many of them break this pact, even on the side and even with the Bosmer nature of being less than strict with what is law or someone elses property.

I think they would probably grow their homes.
Its possible to plant and shape creepers as to form a sort of dome dwelling, people in our history have lived in these sort of things.
Bosmer probably go a bit further and convince trees to grow them proper Bosmer housing themselves.
Its a symbiosis, probably not entire unlike http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myrmecophyte, but more magical.

That's closer to the Imperial City before Talos CHIMed it.

All I really know about is that there's a loading screen tip in Skyrim that says "Wood Elves, also known as Bosmer, are natives of Valenwood. This jungle nation is home to giant, migratory trees that house their cities." This makes me think that there's more than one and that's where they primarily live.

Some ideas. Add a liberal application of trees.

Honestly the IC in Oblivion does look quite like that. The white marble feel is quite prelevent.

Also, this may be off topic, but when exactly did Talos CHIM up Cyrodil? What did the inhabitants feel if anything? I wish there was a few books, capitalizing on the horrible retcon and make it into interesting enough lore.

The orthodox account has it right after the fall of Alinor, as a reward to his Nordic veterans.

Do you think Maybe they might look something like that? the houses wrapped around the trees are made from worms, which have been hollowed out and solidified, forming hard shells. I have also thought of a lot more lore surrounding the image. I just finished it today.

Ooh, I quite like that. But I'd call them giant sclerotized nematode cysts instead of just hardened worms.
