How would one go about killing a god?

Post » Tue Oct 12, 2010 7:03 am

Morrowind, but I want to make it a sort of unofficial expansion if you will.

@Seti - I was thinking something along the lines of gather artifacts to create your own plane of Oblivion. Surely that would be god status-worthy?

By creating your own plane of Oblivion, do you mean becoming a Daedric prince? I don't see why it couldn't work. In two dragon break stories, however, several people attempted to use a powerful artifact(Totem of Tiber Septim, Heart of Lorkhan) and at least one of those people attempted to become a god. That is where my example came from. A mortal creating a plane of Oblivion seems to be something that would raise one to godhood, though.

A god within the realm, anyway. Perhaps you could use the heart to create a dragon-break in which you somehow break Ur's connection to the heart (in a way Vivec didn't think of), make yourself a god-like entity, and gather the resources to create a harvesting device that will gather the refuse creatia form aetherius and use it to create an outer realm the likes of which no mortal has ever seen!

I don't want to mess with the heart though, as that could mess up the MQ. I don't want my mod to interfere with the main quest, I want it to be more of an expansion pack.

It's possible to set up scripts for a second hit sequence for the heart, You would just have to script the effects for the second sequence.

But then that shortens my quests down considerably, as the ascension to godhood is like the 3/4 point. The point of no return. Without my quests leading up to it, you'd miss out on a lot of moral choices and NPCs. Not to say that I don't appreciate your suggestions, I really do. I just don't want to mess with heart or the main quest.

Well, what exactly is your plot so far anyway? It's hard to give suggestions when we don't know what kind of lead up your planning on.

Though you could just have your quests run parallel to the MQ.

Maybe you could just rip the heart out of a shezzarine, call it a mantella, and ascend with that.

It's still in the rough stages, but here is a very very very rough draft:

You meet a man in Seyda Neen who is having stange visions of the future. (Involving the Oblivion Crisis, the fall of the Ministry of Truth, the Sucessions, and Umbriel) He knowing you're the Nerevarine wants you to help him. If you take this quest before you're the Nerevarine, he'll simply say that there's something in you that he trusts, so he asks you to help him. He needs you to collect artifacts (or do something of equal importance) to make your own plane of Oblivion. Along the way while gathering these artifacts or doing whatever it is you need to do, you learn about some ill effects that may happen if you continue. Once you have everything, he'll ask if you're ready. If you are, the process will begin. You'll be in a white abyss of nothingness. (Well, nothing but you and him) This is your new plane. After a short conversation you learn that the plane is unstable and will collapse. The plane collapses and you are teleported back to Vvardenfell where you see the eighth (or seventh, correct me if I'm wrong) tower (which has just been formed due to that(, which will act as Martin's dragon statue did, preventing a daedric invasion. This means that the Mythic Dawn's plans are foiled, thus no Oblivion Crisis, thus Vivec isn't taken so the Ministry doesn't fall, and with no Crisis or falling of the Ministry, the events from Oblivion up the Infernal City (and presumably the second novel) can't happen, thus Tamriel is saved.

It's still in the very very early planning stage, but I quite like it, myself.

So you create a new tower...how'd you get from trying to create an oblivion plane to accidentally making a tower? Not seeing the connection here. Seems like a better option would be to have the man want to create a tower, but then you realize you could use the same artifacts to promote yourself to a god like state and create your own oblivion plane. The moral dilemma then becomes one of personal glory versus preventing the landfall.

I was thinking that the energy created from the creation and collapse of a plane could "enchant" and morph something around where you arrive after the collapse which would result in the eighth tower.

Well would that energy be able to do something which can stop a daedric invasion? A tower was all I could come up with...But then again it is 3:45 AM.

Problem is that the idea of the failed realm creation accidentally preventing the Oblivion crisis comes too far out of left field. It'd make sense if tower creation was intentional, and then you could give players the option of choosing to benefit the many, or only the player. (tower vs. realm creation)

Okay, so how would I go about creating a tower? I could easily substitute my original idea of plane creation with tower creation.

Well, for the purposes of a questline, we can break it down into three easy Objectives:

1. Build a tower.

2. Make a stone for that tower.

3. Press on button.

So for step 1, the huge amounts of useless cash accumulated as a result of gameplay can be used to fund the building of the tower itself, like a white gold dealy.

For step 2, you do fetch quests in order to create a stone for the tower, it's power-source. Selfish players should be able to subvert this step in order to gain power for themselves.

For step 3, come up with a flashy ritual for activating the tower.

Not much information on the details in the lore, so you'll have to get creative.

one more thing, consider making the tower a player home. This will encourage repeat playthroughs.

There are already eight Towers:
Orichalc
Walk-brass (which is the only one that has been rebuilt)
Falinesti
Adamantine
Crystal Tower
Snow Throat
White-Gold
Vvardenfell

I suggest an exposition for the Emperor's true motive behind the Nerevarine. Did you know Morrowind's plot, at one point, centered around rebuilding the Numidium? Congrats, big hero, you've been had! Your sole purpose was to undermine the Tribunal's moral standing, thus their influence over the Dunmer, which allowed the Imperials to conflate their own influence, under the guise of peacekeeping. The Nerevarine's coallition of Great Houses was very short lived, as mentioned in the pocket guide. Also, in eliminating the Sixth House, you served in the recovery of sensitive materials from Sixth House bases! The Emperor sent in Cosades, to lead the operation, while you were in Solstheim, because Uriel's got a Numidium of his own; and he wants to use it on Cyrodiil's, balking Counts and an angry citizenry. Then you stop them or something. I don't know.

Then why hasn't the Medes took the second Numidium for a spin?

I think the librarian up there was implying that this was an abandoned plot element that doesn't necessarily represent the current official timeline.

edit: In fact, many of the abandoned concepts for Morrowind or mentioned in Morrowind turned out to be a lot more interesting than the stuff that eventually happened. For instance, originally it was planned that the Blight and the Ashlands spread farther and farther from Red Mountain the more the main quest went along, which would have been awesome.

Also, the rumors about Cyrodill and Uriel Septim and his heirs from Morrowind suggested a lot more political intrigue than what eventually happened in Oblivion. I like the idea that Uriel's sons were daedric doppelgangers and that his health was failing, but that just didn't make it into TES IV.

The Talos Cult faction/idea in general was fascinating, politically, but in TES IV the only Talos Cult was associated either with the goody two shoes chapel in Bruma, or with the Blades who were fiercely loyal to the Emperor. I prefer the idea that there's a secret cult out there who wish to "put a strong man back on the throne". I have a fan fic idea where Titus Mede is Talos Cult alumni, but it's just a vague idea I'm toying with.

Ah.

Hrmm, about Titus being part of the Talos Cult sounds interesting, but I have a hard time reconciling the fact that with how Titus was actually a bandit before, became a warlord, and blah. Maybe by the time he was becoming quite strong, members of the Talos Cult propped him even further.

Maybe he was a bandit because he was exiled from the Legions for suspected (but unproven) association with the Cult. Treason warrants a death penalty, but if a person is only SUSPECTED of ASSOCIATING with traitors, a less severe penalty perhaps would befall him. Don't you think that sounds plausible, from a lore standpoint?

edit: Also consider the guy's military prowess. He's said to be a great warrior and he took the Imperial City with less than 1,000 men. For a lowly bandit with no military training, he'd have to be divine.

I took the Imperial City at level 14, all by myself. So nyuh, Titus Mede!

Then why hasn't the Medes took the second Numidium for a spin?

Because the secret rites of mantella making, along with the location of the foundry, died with the Septims' aspirations. The assassinations and protection of Martin and his allies shifted their focus, entirely. Stuff like that.

I think the librarian up there

I'm not a librarian. I don't even have an account at TIL. I did, but I don't anymore. I'm a Monkeytruther, though.

I don't know much about Dragon Breaks, so let me ask a stupid question about the end of the Oblivion game:

Spoiler
When Martin Septim shatters the Amulet of Kings and somehow transforms into the avatar of Akatosh, the barriers between Tamriel and Oblivion are said to have been broken. Is this event a Dragon Break?
