How would the game handle mentioning the oblivion Crisis

Post » Tue Mar 08, 2011 10:52 pm

If there are some history libaries how will the game manage mentioning the events of oblivion with the options available will it take your last saved game and if you don't have one say you were an imperial man (default) or will it just be that no one bothered to writ it down?

I think that the lore books detailing the events of TESIV will reference your character as "The Champion of Cyrodill".

You are not the champion of cyrodill in Skyrim. And they will mention the guy from oblivion most likely as : ''Champion of cyrodill''

The Oblivion rumours about the Nerevarine never ascribed a gender or race/species to them, so why would it matter in Skyrim vis the Champion?

The same way as they did with the other games, just as an Anonymous hero.

Bethesda always does an amazing job of bringing the nostalgia of the previous games back by referencing them in books and conversations such as Jauffre talking about Jagar Tharn, which is from Arena and "The Warp in the West", which was made to explain the multi-ending of Daggerfall. I'm sure we will have books or references in conversation of the Oblivion Crisis such as how the Champion of Cyrodiil helped defeat Mehrunes Dagon or how the town of Aldruhn was annihilated by the daedra.

I think Bethesda really need to consider putting some of this previous save reading functionality into Skyrim now, so that in the Elder Scrolls VI we can have some record of Skyrim's events.

I'm hoping that some of Skyrim's history making make it into books straight away so you could read about yourself and events (ala Black Horse Courier) and I really want another statue of my character made.

They uprooted your statue from bruma and now it stands on the peak of the highest mountain. Every summer they throw 10 annoying bosmer from the summit.

Realistically (Oh no, the R word!) you probably wouldnt here much about it. How often do you overhear people talking about the War of 1812 for example?

Isn't "annoying bosmer" a little redundant? :whistling:

I have about two dozen Oblivion characters in probably at least a couple of hundred saves, including 24 rotating quicksave slots. Which one would they choose?

"The Champion of Cyrodiil" is fine for any references they might make in Skyrim. I can choose to believe that that refers to any of my characters, as I see fit.

Nah, that would just limit their options and make more work for them by trying to make sure all possible outcomes of a previous game are covered without conflicting with the new game's story.

Let them make the best possible games and give the main character from previous games a generic title.

Tails stick out of armor... just saying.

Also, bestheda is good at getting rid of previous heroes, the Niverine took a boat-trip off this rock to play with some guys with katanas and the CoC went into a portal and never returned.

I hope people mention the Hero of Cyrodil and Nerevarine at least once. I remember the Gray Fox mentioning Nerevar once and I actually gasped. It really helped reaffirm the connection between these games... they all are in the world world.

Although I think you made a good point, that's probably not the best example. The War of 1812 was 'just another war', wheres what happened in Oblivion was demons and creatures from another realm ripping through reality to take over the land, and the once unknown son of the assassinated emperor transformed into a golden dragon to defeat a 4 story high Deadric Prince. Granted, this doesn't seem too egregious given the TES world, but even still that's some pretty crazy stuff.

Well, in our own world there are people in some circles who can discuss the eruption of Krakatoa as if it happened last year. You ask others about it and they might look at you and ask: "You cracked your what?" And that was a major, climate-changing event.

It should really depend on who you talk to or which NPCs are talking to each other, is what I'm getting at. After 200 years, I'd be willing to bet there are some people who have no idea what the Oblivion Crisis was, let alone care about it. And there are those who would rant and rave about it like it's happening now.

Only way I could see them still mentioning something that happen 200 years ago in everyday talk, is if there was some real animosity towards conjurers by superstitious peasants who don't understand how the magic really works.

So it was like the War of 1812 combined with... Stargate? That seems close enough for me.

There will probably be generic words to reference your character in Oblivion like 'Champion' and such.

P.S. I love how in your thread title, Oblivion is not capitalized, while crisis is. :P

Except with a Daedric inter-demensional death portal, you don't get the same "PhewwwoooosheeaaarnneeeaaaeeaaaaaaaaFOOSH!" effect that you do with a Stargate.

The War of 1812 was "just another war" 200 year afterwards, but at the time it was a huge deal. Lets move up 53 years and say the Civil War instead. How many people are just gabbing on about that? Not too many.

No one talks about the gulf war either and that was what 20 years ago? Granted it was nothing like the civil war, obviously.
