How would you feel if they suddenly announced

Yep, in fact that is the exact dimensions of Daggerfall

Thought so. I actually started a character in daggerfall yesterday with the soul intent of circling the entire Iliac Bay on foot... He hasn't made it very far yet though. Even after a full day in real time of playing.

Unsure. More land is welcome, but if there's not enough content to fill up the land, it may just end up feeling like an empty, half-finished game. Hypothetically, I'd rather they just stick with the landmass that they established in Oblivion, especially if there isn't going to be an increase in content. Although, if all of the dungeons, caves etc. are packed as close together as they were in Oblivion, double the landmass might just be welcome. :P

I actually wouldn't mind this.

Dungeons would be more spaced out and feeling natural than the cluster-[censored] in Oblivion. Every hill and riverside had a dungeon?

When you find a dungeon in the middle of nothing, you'll be like HOLY ****! Instead of , oh another dungeon!

As long as the world map has a somewhat smaller scale (i.e. bigger square size) I am happy. I felt that the world in Oblivion was pretty freaking huge, but it'll feel much bigger once you add mountains etc to it like in Skyrim and the map is bigger. Hopefully, it'll be fun to not use the instant travel.

Yes to a bigger world!

A Salmon Merchant is a great idea too (I wonder why I never thought about that), but only if it's a fresh salmon. Otherwise it could turn into a Salmonella Merchant. I don't want a stomach-ache...

They don't sell salmon, it's a salmon that is a merchant.

I'd rather they focus on quality instead of quantity. Oblivion's map was big enough, but it was too flat and too boring. You could see the Imperial City from every corner of the nation, which made it feel very cramped. It seems like they're tackling this in Skyrim by making the terrain harder to cross and, of course, there is the fog mechanic which gently breaks the draw distance of the game. I don't think size of the overworld is going to be such an issue as before.

On the other hand, another problem with Oblivion's map was that every point of interest felt too cramped. The damn compass exacerbated this no end. Anywhere in the "wilderness" you stand you've got forts and mines galore, all being shoved in your face by the compass. If Skyrim has over 140 dungeons plus other points of interest this surely is going to be a problem again. If they've changed the compass so that you don't get notified about every brick within a ten mile radius it shouldn't be such an issue, but it'd still be jarring to come across a landmark every hundred yards.

Yeah, I understand the concept, it's just that I have bad experiences with that kind of aquatic vendors from Morrowind. The expiry date on Mudcrab Merchant wasn't accurate...

(okay, this is too weird... Must get back to work before my boss see what I'm doing here...)

Forget all your fancy immersion and sprawling fantasy landscapes - just make sure the salmon merchant is in there somewhere.

He'll friggin yes!

I was hoping for a bigger world than oblivion but oblivions was pretty big it just suffered from being pretty bland and having dungeons copied and pasted all over it.

Edit: also if there were a salmon merchant I would be the fiirst to kill it and eat it mwahahahaa

Yeah, glad to see they're putting more focus on making the dungeons interesting than numerous this time.

Honestly, the landmass in oblivion was fantastic. It never felt cramped. You just knew that there was lots to explore within what you could (mostly) see. That's exactly what made it feel like absolutely no other fantasy open world rpg out there. It was like home. It might not have been as alien as morrowind, but it felt like the shire. Add 500 mods (merged patches) and its the most replayable elder scrolls game, by a insanely huge shot. IMO.

Ok, got that out of the way.

Would I want skyrim to be huge, and the content to be placed more sparingly across the bigger canvas?

....

YES. And I don't understand why people say "i don't care or "misc responce" I think that would be the ultimate game. It would make the arguably best part of an elder scrolls game, exploring, something even more random. You walk for what seems like 20 minutes, and then find a cave. Instead of walk for 20 seconds in morrowind, or two minutes in oblivion, and find a dungeon.

Spacing that out, would make every discovery that much more rewarding. imo.

Sure, it'd be nice to be able to take a few steps without bumping into a dungeon.

Voted yes.

Bethesda are great world designers and I trust them wholeheartedly.

(Not like another company that made a recent Fallout game, that pretty much told you, "Sure, walk the map over. You won't find anything though. It's just space. Muwhahaahaaa!")

Well with attributes being removed/moved around, i dont think a bigger map will be need now. Im guessing that race selection will be the major factor for what type of character you would want to make and then perks would add a small amount to that. One of the reasons why oblivion felt so small was because with100 speed you just zoomed past everything and nothing could catch up to you.

I said I don't care. Bethesda will try and give us the best scale to content ratio so whatever their decision would be I would trust.

This.

Don't care - the game will be the game, and (given past history with MW/OB/FO3) pretty darn good. Claims about the size of the map are pretty trivial.
