How would you feel if they suddenly announced

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 11:03 pm

that the Skyrim world map is actually twice the size of the Oblivion one (roughly 32 sqm)?

Ignore the issues of "but why did they say it was the same size before?" and all that, just answer hypothetically. Would you be pleased or dissapointed at the wider world and more spread out settlements, dungeons and locations?

EDIT: The assumption is also that the environments are no less detailed, but also there is no more locational content (towns, dungeons etc.).

I voted other. I'd rather have a smaller quality product then a large product of less quality.

I would feel "HELL FRIGGIN YESSSS!!!"

But that wasn't an option so I had to go with "Yes".

This is assuming the environments still look like the screenshots (save the scale of things). The only change is the size of the world and therefore distance between locations.

And if you don't want it, shouldn't you have voted "no"?

I said I don't care. Bethesda will try and give us the best scale to content ratio so whatever their decision would be I would trust.

A wide smile would spread across my face. I don't care if its all wilderness or not. That being said, I'm happy with skyrim being the same size as oblivion. Why? Because the province of skyrim is geographically smaller than the province of Cyrodiil. Which means its just a wee bit closer to scale. What this also means is that ambitious province mods will be able to flesh out smaller landscapes such as Highrock in slightly larger scales than they did in Oblivion. But for vanilla skyrim all together, a map twice the size as oblivion's will certainly add a lot more space for modders to spread out their work. Oblivion and Morrowind both sort of had a small problem with certain mods overlapping each other.

That sounds like a bit big for what we can reasonably expect Skyrim's location content to be

I wouldn't care. I honestly don't care how big the world is as long as it is filled with unique and exciting content to explore. As big as Oblivion is still huge.

No, not at all. I voted yes. I would like to have to travel further on my trusty steed if I wanted to get places fast, and have the world appear more vast and impressive, myself.

Yep, in fact that is the exact dimensions of Daggerfall, the largest game world ever created (no Minecraft isn't the biggest, it is procedurally generated as you play through the game.)

Simply, I would be well pleased, and I would have more to explore. :)

Unsure. More land is welcome, but if there's not enough content to fill up the land, it may just end up feeling like an empty, half-finished game. Hypothetically, I'd rather they just stick with the landmass that they established in Oblivion, especially if there isn't going to be an increase in content. Although, if all of the dungeons, caves etc. are packed as close together as they were in Oblivion, double the landmass might just be welcome. :P

Well, as it would appear from info and suggestions in the content released thus far....

Less, but bigger and more complex dungeons
Fewer but bigger main cities
More and larger towns and villages
