How would you lead the NCR?

I don't think he expects Talon Company in all out war but instead to use guerilla warfare to weaken resolve and be a genuine thorn in the side of the Legion.

yah that would work but if they tried a full out battle with them they would get slaughtered

True but having them harrassing Legion supply lines and attacking Legion patrols would work wonders for my plan on the other page. ;)

It's amazing how some people's ideas I pretty close to mine when it comes to Community delevopment and relations, I suppose I'm not the only one to think about this. Ok so for this strategy is right before the events of F:NV happened, so they basically don't even take into account the courier.

Ding ding ding! You are quite right, although I do believe the Talon Company could defeat the Legion in small-medium sized battles, but not head-on.

Yah or even better some little skirmishes. They have good armor they would be suited if not better to fight them in little battles.

It'd be interesting due to the fact that Talon Company has better armour and weaponry and is quite skilled at close counter fighting but Legion has superior numbers and great skill as close counter fighting but can be easily gunned down.

I really like how good Combat Armor is in New Vegas, it is actually cause for worry if something is wearing it. And the Talon Company's main weapons are the R91 Assault Rifle (Not in the game :( but imagine a full-auto Marksman Carbine with a mag size of 24), the AER9 Laser Rifle (Really a rather good all-around weapon, accurate, rapid firing, good damage, DT penetration), and the Combat Shotgun (Riot Shotgun is closest and is a beast).

yaha the most i got in F3 was 25 cps and that took awhile. In NV you dont even have to try to make 10k its sooo easy like so much stuff that was useless in F3 is worth so much more.

I would probably send 20 ranger veterans to assasinate Ceaser and lanius. With the knowledge that the legion will probably fall without them.

I would also probably remove forces from helios one, salvage anything important from it, then destroy it.

Put Colonel Hsu in charge of military and put the man in charge of the NCR embassy in charge of diplomacy.

Evacuate bittersprings and use troops elsewhere.

Ally with the kings, BoS, khans.

Surround cottonwood cove with rangers and 1rst recon, assasinating all high ranking officers they see

With these tactics, the legion should destroy itself within a relavtively short space of time, and leave the NCR to tame the mojave unhindered

How would you deal with Mr House?

Also why scrap and destroy Helios One? Archimedes and the ability to create a fair amount of power would help NCR interests massively.

I would:
-Attempt to enact a ceasefire treaty with the Brotherhood, offering them Helios 1 and their armor back in exchange for the Brotherhood recognizing the Dam as NCR property, and aiding in the war against the Legion. Allow the Brotherhood to buy water and power from the Dam, once secure, for a pre-set price.

-Seal off Vault 3 entirely. No need to go in and deal with the fiends, just pile up enough rubble outside the blast door that they can't get out for a resupply of food or drugs. The fiends aren't exactly responsible, mature people. The withdrawal would likely have them killing one another after a couple days.

-Attempt to reach an agreement with Mr. House. Offer to make New Vegas a 'state' in the Republic, which has to obey the general outline of the NCR's laws, but the taxes go to Mr. House and the region maintains a certain level of independence. In return House agrees to use at least a portion of his resources to bring law and order to the Vegas area, and to assist against the legion.

-Fire General Oliver, who is useless, and replace him with a ranger veteran or Col. Hsu.

I dont completely buy that, Fallout 3's attroctious writing may have put their base in DC, but think about it, a well-equipped mercenary group with almost no restrictions on contracts, add into the fact that this is the wasteland, i'd imagine such a group to grow into large presence and perhaps even send divisions off to access new markets.

I put this in the Fallout 4 suggestion topic in Series Discussion, this shows why i think they are fit to spread out and why i like them so much:
I would like Talon Company to be in Fallout 4, but not like they were in Fallout 3, I want it to be like the factions of New Vegas, with interaction and reputation. My logic is that, in a post-nuclear world like Fallout, an entity like the Talon Company would flourish into tremendous presence, even more so in areas where no large factions had developed to create order. I mean, the Talon Company is a perfect example of the perfect post-apocolyptic business model, a moderatly sized, well-equiped paramilitary force that would be deployed at the word and monetary expense of wealthy people or groups to vy for power. I dont understand how there are no other factions like them, the Talon Company should be in Fallout 4, it fits well in the setting and, frankly, the poor usage of a faction with such potential in Fallout 3 left a bad taste in my mouth, and, seeing how very well Obsidian did with factions in Fallout: New Vegas, really fleshing them out with backgrounds and interactions, I have no doubt that, if Bethesda takes some pointers from New Vegas's handling of factions, they could be a great faction in Fallout 4.

Talon Company!

Lots of decent ideas on this thread that might work IF manpower and equipment aren't issues...which they are.

The way NCR is set up is logical in terms of consolidating economic territory. This firebase style method is the most efficient when small numbers of troops must secure large areas. There are several security risks around them, but when NCR secures the dam completely, most of the problems disappear as well. That dam is a meat-grinder: let the legion attack, with all the liabilities of attackers. No need to risk troops on attacking the legion.

When the dam is secure:
-Increased potential for winning hearts and minds with electricity and water.
-Vastly weakening the Legion, making it easier to mount offensive actions with limited resources.
--Weakening of Legion allows other factions to be reduced peace-meal, or co-opted more easily (Legion looks like a poor choice for ally)
-With the legion neutralized, the Strip is effectively surrounded and could be, if necessary, beseiged, with the existing NCR base very well defended against counterattack.

The situation here is similar to the typical third world civil war: Strong, opposing forces, but neither is strong enough to overwhelm the other, so there is stalemate. House is the wild card, and he seems more attuned to the NCR, at least politically. The NCR is in the strongest position here, and they will eventually prevail, even if the Legion does eventually capture the dam. The force of History is in favor of the NCR.

You want to get rid of Helios one because without the courier the NCR has no way to make it operational for any purpose. Remember all the robots on the way to the control panel? Do you realize how many troops they would have to sarcafice just to reach it? And then there isn't any telling if they could get it to work. In the mean time it's just a target for the BOS and the Legion. And all that for what? They already have power for the Hoover Dam and besides the Follower of A. guy no one even knows it's also a military weapon.

As far as House goes, if the NCR secured I-15, Highway's 93, 95, and House wasn't able to upgrade his securtions (Which without the Courier he wouldn't be able to) the NCR is just in the much better position to take over. House's securtons would be up against the Fiends, and general anger of the people. Add in the NCR with their massive supply lines and reinforcements and House would fall once the Legion is dealt with.

Stop stop stop man offense would be tens times better than defense in this case. Everyday they wait for the Legion to attack is another day the Legion has had to study the Dam and notice all there weakness. If the legion controls the dam they'd probably break some [censored] or kill all the engineers. From what I can tell simple reinforcements from Forlorn Hope, and a massive offensive could bring down the Fort. And lets just say they can't get into the forts inner ring. Who cares? The way caeser designed it means that if he's surrounded and can't get out they all strave to death. He has no exit route from what we've seen. I would much rather take the offense.

Since we have knowledge of Archimedes because we are the Courier means that we know how to get it operational and on the subject of getting through the control tower; a squad of Veteran Rangers with pulse weapons would be able to easily get through it.

In return you'd at the very least be able to power a significant amount of the Mojave which would increase NCR support throughout the settlements. If the NCR is here to stay we cannot be seen as an enemy or a self centred group if we're to stay in the Mojave without conflict in the long term.

Also... Why does everyone forget that NCR has Vertibird capabilites...? A Vertibird is capable of heavily bombing a target means that you could wipe out Caesar and the majority of The Fort with a surprise strike and then send in a veteran strike team to mop up any survivors...

This is a scenario in which the magical shootum up Courier doesn't exist or come into play. How would you change the NCR stragety to win. If we were talking about the courier being involved it won't matter becasue I killed everyone who was against the NCR. Besides that if the Rangers couldn't kill fiends I wouldn't take the risk of them going against the army of robots in Helios Basemant. Besides the Rangers have more important things to do like help the assulat on Cottonwood, defend the border especially near Bittersprings, deal with the Great Khans etc.

Also the vertibed tech doesn't seem to be wide spread and a simple C-4 like we saw towards the end of the game can put one down. I suppose they could use it but if they lose one I have a feeling it would be an HUGE loss.
