how would you like to earn perks

Post » Tue Apr 05, 2011 10:51 am

i realy think that the defining tes feature is leveling skills to level up, so i think leveling skills should be the main way to get perks- for instance

leveling speechcraft up lets me choose between....

lady killer (lets say i am male ok?)

child at heart

basic knowledge of language x (to be upgraded with decent knowledge, and maybe fluent knowledge

confirmed bachelor (aka- being gay in 1950s speech)

shrewed merchant (prices fall by 10%, and sell for 10% more)

the pride of *subject- hometown here* (helps the player speak to their own race- bonus for reference )

all around the world- less penalties speaking to racist people (who arent your race)

man of the people- better at talking to commoners

noble- better at talking to nobles and people wanting your money

scary- makes the player better at intimidation

or other speech related stuff. this makes sense right?

whilst that seems like the best option to me- i wouldent mind some perks (that are less related to skills- for example wild wasteland or apearing as royalty) being earned by doing something lots- killing spiders loads should give you a bonus against spiders. using 2h weapons should give you a two handed bonus, using fire spells may make them cost less magika etc) being taught some stuff like new moves and how to deal with x would be good too

I don't think mine would be very popular. Perks are selectable at level-up, with level and skill requirements. Perks come in trees, with lower level perks being requirements for higher level perks (to encourage specialization). Perks don't activate right away, but rather enable new dialogue, new characters or new quests that can lead to gaining the skill the perk promises.

edit: And every perk should have positive and negative effects, like the Traits in New Vegas.

We already know that perks are gained when you level up, and I'm fine with that approach, though I wouldn't object if there were some unique perks you could get as quest rewards as well, similar to Fallout 3. I'd also say that some perks should have certain skill requirements or only available if you've already chosen a certain other perks. Because if there's some perk that say... let's you perform a new move with a certain weapon, it doesn't make much sense to be able to get it when you don't have a certain level of skill at using the appropriate weapon already.

Don't think there will be many Portal references in Skyrim. ;)

I think it'd be natural to gain perks as one gains experience in using a certain skill or performing a certain action. Next to other methods. FO:NV style.

Primary: skill specific after X skill level ups
Secondary: all others except quests and stuff.

I Certainly hope Bethesda doesn't just copy paste FO3 perks like you did.

They already said you can select a perk at each level.

i am upset that people would rather perks by leveling overall rather than leveling skills :(

i just think leveling skills is more tes like- and makes more sense

You still have to level skills, but there are fewer skills and what we think is the abolition of attributes which will be substituted by perks.

oh, i was under the impression attributes would raise automatically depending on the skills you level in
