How would you like Skyrim's borders to be handled?

Post » Mon Jul 19, 2010 12:14 am

I'm referring to the "edges of the game". Ex: in Oblivion, they were the dreaded invisible barriers.

What would you like them to be in Skyrim? Invisible barriers? Mountain ranges that just can't be traversed?

Don't just say "forget borders I'm modding them out" :P

Maybe even guard stations or something that won't let you leave? (you are in prison for trying to come in)

As soon as you get too close to the borders eighteen dragons beat the crap out of you (unless you run away).

Invisible barriers is the most realistic way to do it. You can't have impassable terrain around the whole border

That one.

*edit*
@above

Why do you want realism in a fantasy game?

Or maybe have a Greybeard (Gandalf) magically teleport in front of you whenever you try to go past the borders, and he'll yell "You shall not pass!" ((then you die from awesomeness))

I don't even want to leave Skyrim's borders. Why would I leave the awesomeness to see a world with no real action?

Luckily, I'll mod myself into a balrog. So I'll take him with me :flamethrower:

I see nothing wrong with invisible walls for borders. Unless you spend the entire game bouncing off the edges of the map, it doesn't really cause any problems whatsoever.

But that's just me.

Invisible walls are fine.

Impassable mountains etc. are a no no though. If for instance I wanted a mod that adds the whole of Cyrodiil (fully explorable) to the south of Skyrim, it would be easy to turn off the invisible walls and walk straight over the border... but impassable mountains would be harder to get around.

Yeah, you'd have to mod the terrain to make the mountains passable, and that could introduce incompatibilities with other mods.

I just hope it's not invisible walls.

i used to try to glitch through the walls in oblivion, so far no luck. i did fall through the jerall mountains once.

Well in the North the sea will act as a good natural border around the rest of it maybe the best way would be mountains to steep to climb

Although I did liked the 18 dragons beat the crap out of you unless you run away

Invisible walls are fine. It's less "nonsense" than having some giant impassable wall (with an unbreakably locked gate or two) around the whole country.

Invisible walls. If they went with the mountain option then they couldn't add a levitate spell to the game

It's very doubtful whether they'll add one anyway. You'd have to Mod that in as well

I can not believe so many people are OK with invisible walls...they are just the worst.
Hey that looks neat over there 'donk' ah what the start pounding on thin air "WHAT DOES IT MEAN"

I mean Give me something like the ghost gate give me giant mountain or give me the same as morrowind where the map acts like a sphere, but please for the love of all things holy and some things that are not NO Invisible wall.

Exactly. Natural borders would just make life unnecessarily difficult for modders.
