Due to lore, I know it isn't possible, but I've always wanted to see a miny globe/planet with no borders.

I don't think the lore makes it impossible, just the tech limitations. I devoutly hope that the next gen Elder Scrolls game will be something like this: Elder Scrolls VI: Tamriel

I HATE it when people put ambiguously placed cliffs and rivers at the edge of the map, it's so cheesy and cheap. Plus you can't see the beautiful landscapes in the distance

Boarder guards would be the best. They should have a "buffer zone" towards the edge of the map, and if you stay in the buffer zone for too long, a boarder guard should come running up to you and force you to go back.

How about all mountains around Skyrim but every once and awhile (for modders and maybe future Downloads, their will be impassable gates in the mountain..

Hated everything about Fallout NV including the barriers, just made it seem like they were wasting map space. Prefer Oblivion's and Fallout 3's.. Morrowind's were pretty cool too.

if i didnt take future mods into consideration i would say natural features like mountains and seas. but since modders might make use of the land beyond the borders like the elswyr mod for oblivion....for that reason alone keep it simple. invisible borders.

Well they could delete the mountain ot make a tunnel that leads to the new realm..

Natural borders (mountains) and an endless sea.

It could work, seeing how Skyrim is pretty much completely surrounded by mountains.
One might say then: "Oh... well if there is and endless sea, I can keep swim to west or east and then go ashore around the mountains!". I say: the cold should kill you if you swim way too far in the cold cold ocean up north.

What if your a nord, resistant to frost xD

i suppose they could. but they would have to generate all the land past that point unless they just did a tunnel. the nice thing about how oblivions borders was set up is that you could actually run for quite aways past them before the land got silly looking. there was lots of usable space just sitting there all premade for modders to use. im all about making modders lives easier if its possible.

Invincible dragons move in when you pass the borders and you die instantly no matter what level you are.

I'd like a combination of natural terrain and roads into Cyrodiil, Morrowind, High Rock, ect. being locked down with border checkpoints. If you venture beyond the mark station, you get shot dead by a cannon.

Invisible Walls are fine at the provincial borders. There should be absolutely no invisible walls within the gamespace inside however. Of course, we'll probably have to deal with some around the Large cities, but a few cities, Like Whiterun and Markarth, take advantage of their natural surroundings to form less obvious "Fake" barriers, unlike Oblivion.

I've voted for natural barriers, but I'm also happy with some invisible walls beyond the point where the game makes it obvious you're supposed to stop.

So ocean, mountains, border guards, etc. backed with invisible walls some distance out. That's pretty much the Oblivion method except that Oblivion placed the invisible barriers a little to close for my taste, especially near Skingrad.

I remember a while back, someone suggested that a huge snow storm should start happening, which would kill you after a minute of so. That's the best I've heard so far, though I'm sure they'll just use invisible walls, since that's what they've always done before.

i hated the way invisible walls were done in fallout NV... they just weren't at the edge of the map but all over the place... i like natural barriers, but in places where they can't fit them in without making them look unnatural, invisible walls would be okay.... just please keep these invisible walls at the edge of the map only... i don't want an invisible wall blocking me from squirming up a mountain a in an unconventional way....

THIS is a reeeaaally good point.

Todd Howard with an anti-material rifle try to get out of skyrim now.

This should almost certainly become one of the first mods released.

This.

Although i could accept invincible walls again. But i don't want something like 25 dragos which pops up out of nowhere or unkillable boarder guards. That's much more damaging to the immersion IMO.

I like the invisible barriers approach more than surrounding the whole game area with obstacles. Obstacles usually make game areas look less natural.

Edit:

I don't think Mr. Howard is a rifle expert so getting out of Skyrim would be easy. All we need to get the message is hear Todd's voice: "Don't go there!". Yes, sir!

Invisible barriers, especially if it makes you stop running so it looks like your character just decided to stop rather than keep running into an invisible walls. Everything else seems utterly unrealistic and contrived. Would totally take me out of the game to have freakishly and consistently steep mountains at the edge of the map and have you mysteriously freeze when going too far West or East in water, despite the fact that the sea around Skyrim should be colder than around Morrowind or High Rock, since they don't have glaciers.

Skyrim should feel part of Tamriel, not like a bacteria farm in a petri dish. Natural barriers are the most unnatural idea ever made.

If possible, add as much natural barriers as possible. Some places can have invisible walls. I really like the idea of a magical forest that always leads you out of it on the exact same spot as you entered. :)
