How would you survive a Zombie Apocalypse

Post » Mon Jan 04, 2010 4:40 am

yeah, but its all about lack of space, for instance on the Dry Tortugas there is alot of space in the fort but its needed space, we could only plant a few very small crops and maybe have 2 cattle, and 1 chicked coop. and because of the lack of feed we would have to raid to get feed for the animals, so thats a no go.

But in a BIG stronghold it's possible so the answer is: "Having a BIG stronghold". :shakehead:

You guys know rice and beans together make complete protein, right?

In a zombie crisis, I wouldn't keep cattle. Goats and chickens would be best cause they're smaller.

Learn to preserve your food.

Only slaughter an animal if you absolutely have to. Live off rice and beans, and water, for the most part.

See, this is why I would have it easier than you fortress folk. I'd be living like the ancient Israelites.

You've never visited an island, have you Parham?

Well, for islands in the Caribbean, the production of food is lacking. Cuba for example, is a large island in the Caribbean, but it needs outside nations for cattle product. Cuba doesn't raise it's own cattle. Cattle need large places to graze, and living on an island with a large stronghold isn't going to help. You need to move cattle from one grazing pasture to the next, and islands in the Caribbean (like the Keys for example) aren't the best places for that because of their size. So they import their beef from the mainland. Chickens would be easier, but cattle or other large farm animals for beef and food would not. That's why island nations have large seafood economies. That's all they can get easily.

yeah, but my point was we need to make combos of food like that.

and im getting off for tonight, i have to get up in 2 hours and go to Washington DC, i will be out of contact for the most part unless i have time to post using my phone, or when im at a hotel. so in my absense im leaving it up to rmctagg09 and deadspartan24 to manage all things that deal with the Florida stronghold until i return, if theres anything that is very important PM me.

As far as Water Purification goes, does anyone know if the Brita Water containers with the filter can filter salt water? I know that filter is strong, living on top of a mountain I have well water which is virtually undrinkable(you can, it's not unhealthy, it's just disgusting tasting because of extra iron n stuff), just don't know if it's strong enough to filter the salt out of sea water. If it does, all survival groups should target a wal-mart at least one and grab every single one of them plus filters that you can. It will be dangerous most likely, but short of a large water filtration unit(which is unlikely for most of the strongholds except the Dry Tortugas, I imagine something on there has one), it will be our best bet for clean water. Hell, it'll certainly filter river water for us Texas Stronghold people if our wells go dry.

Now, to try my hand at the Week stuff

Week 1

I was sitting at my computer reading random stuff while bored when I stumbled across a series of articles describing several vicious attacks in multiple locations throughout the world, most of them around small communities, but some in larger areas such as Chicago, Tokyo, Berlin & Italy. Being a zombie fanatic, owning nearly every generic and non-generic zombie flick every produced, I instantly read between the lines of the attacks: Multiple bite wounds appearing to be from large animals that used tearing techniques, most noticeably the wounds involved stomach wounds with much of the insides of the victims gone or mutilated, and indeed, even several victims with their skulls cracked open. It could only mean one thing: A zombie outbreak was occuring, and not only that, but it had already managed to spread across the globe with little to no fanfare from the press at large. I quickly informed my skeptical, but not totally disbelieving wife, who agreed that we should go buy lots of supplies; Bottled water, water filters, Dry Food, canned food with long shelf life, ammunition for our rifles and handguns, several whetstones to sharpen our two axes, several extra-long bladed hunting knives for in-close combat where we don't have our crowbars. We also bought several cases of MREs for after our regular food ran out. We reasoned that if this is indeed a zombie outbreak, it's not like we'll have to actually pay off our credit cards, and if it's not, we can return most of the stuff we bought excluding regular non-MRE food. We also searched for a decent truck that we could steal once [censored] hit the fan. After several car lots, we finally found one: A dodge Ram, Dualie, 4v4, and absolutely massive. It even already has a custom front-guard built onto it that will prevent major damage from running over large groups of zombies. Then, we returned home, fortified our trailer, helped my parents next door do the same, even though they refused to believe, I asked them to humor me. Finally, we sat back and waited.

A few days after I found those Online articles, our local news station aired news describing horrific animal attacks in and around the nearest major population Center, Hagerstown. Thats only half an hour away, and there isn't much wildlife there. Our worst fears are officially confirmed. Even my parents are starting to believe. They go and buy their own supplies from the nearest town(thankfully, nothing has popped up there yet), then my dad helps me make a few more modifications to our places, and also clears away the brush from the Antenna Tower next to our house so I can climb up on the roof. "Just in case" he says "that there really are zombies, you're a good shot son, you can get up on the roof and take them out if they get anywhere near us".

It's the end of the first week, and our town has it's first casualty. The authorities are still going with the "animal attack" idea, but many people are starting to whisper that it's something else. Then, finally, at 10 minutes to Midnight, CNN officially announces that there appears to be a worldwide pandemic on our hands. They refuse to call it a zombie outbreak, but most intelligent people will quickly realize thats exactly what it is. CNN goes on to give details of many of the attacks, and that it appears to be perpetuated by dissidents of all governments, anarchists that are trying to launch massive attacks all around the world. Anarchists...what bull-honkey. Oh well, I'm prepared

I don't believe they do. Getting salt out of water is not something that is incredibly easy.

This is why I have a solar powered ecoblu machine.

http://www.ehow.com/how_5992925_perform-desalination.html would probably be the most accessible way of desalinating seawater.

Edit: We need to figure out a location to meet at for the people who are coming with me. Probably Joe's Crab Shack since it's right off the bridge and on the water.

Right then guys here's my plan that I have thought through and can't see any flaws in

When the zombies attack I will go to a Cost Co near a huge shopping centre known as the Trafford centre, Cosco is very well stocked with bulk inventory so I should be able to last their for quite a while. Me and anyone I bring with me will be able to block up all the windows with all the building materials, however we will leave on door in garage unblocked as we can control it automatically from inside the Cosco. So if any of you guys decide to join me and anyone I'm with go to the garage door and ask to be let in and say Fishy stick (that's the code name)
The rest of my previous plan which involved getting a small boat or a canol boat is still part of the plan. Also after I get saved by PeaceBullet or TeeHee I'm going to learn how to drive a boat and maintain it then get my own boat and make a base on one of the low populated islands of England. There near some near Scotland that don't have many people on it pop from 100-1000

Oh and Parham your threads were about whether zombies exist

Since I live in an island, I'm safe.......we'll just build fortifications and use the zombie survival guide as our doctrine.

Costco... Now theres an idea... *goes back to drawing board* Well i now know where to get the food supplies from :)

Im going to use B&Q for my weapons, they have a good stock of black and decker saws, and i think i will tape pitch forks to the bonnet of my jeep. I will need to go to a cloth store to get some nice aviators, theres some nearby that cost lots of money, so ill wait til the apocalypse to get em for free B)

Wait Trafford centre, if thats up north then thats miles away :sadvaultboy: Still, i could stop off there and go to Beancan in scotland, get a nice boat and go to iceland then get some more fuel and amek our way to haiti, possibly making contact with TeeHee:3 and Peacebullet, and making a boat convoy to ferry everyone on this forum to alaska, where we can all play bethesda games together!

My main weapon would be a firearm from a police station, a pistol or whatever is near, secondary weapon would be a circular saw, hopefully a portable one. Vehicle is my imaginary jeep i convientily come across, and my location would be "On the Run" i guess.

Just a little tip: NEVER try to hole up in a large store like Walmart, Costco, Target, etc. There will be like 200 other people in the area that will think of that, and will be willing to kill you to preserve their claim. The holy sacred ritual of "Dibs!" guys.

Also, never try to go to a hospital. People infected with Solanum will be taken there, and the virus will radiate from the hospitals.

Would Foster or Sweet Home work? After and initial clearing.
Scio (add a fortress set up on the hill to the southwest)?
the Spring Hill Country Club?

most of those areas look readily defendable against a basic hoard.
