PLEASE DO NOT REPLY WITH THE WAIT 24 HOUR IN GAME MESSAGE!!!! That's not working!


I have a brand new X-Box 360, I've installed all the GOTY extra disc stuff... Yet it says I still need the update if I put the disc in again.
When I fire up the game it says 'loading extra content' but extra content NEVER SHOWS UP IN THE GAME!!!!!

PLEASE someone explain what I need to do. This is very frustrating, and at this point I don't think I'll stick to my plans for getting all the extra content off X-Box Live... If the product doesn't work, I'm not wasting any more money on it!

Playing Oblivion on PC, I"ve no easy answer for you, but can at least give you an idea of what to look for in-game. Note that I place the info within spoiler tags since...well...it can be considered something of a spoiler if you are new to the game and would rather discover this stuff on your own.

Darkhour,i have the same problem.mine is a used 360 with 60gb.i went online and updateded my dashboard,still no matter what i do the GOTY contant.
i wish i knew what i am doing wrong.i'm a total newbee at this.

I have one of the brand new fancy units with a 250 GB drive... My previous unit was a clunky one with a 20 GB drive. This one SHOULD work fine. Maybe it's the copy of the disc I have, but I don't know, and I don't want to go pay for another one, or download off X-box ive without a guarantee that it's gonna work.


If been working on this problem for a couple months now. My last unit actually got to the point where it rejected Oblivion altogether and would freeze when I tried playing. I've gone through many uploads-deletes-reloads, and nothing.

I'm seriously getting to the point where I want my money back and never want to touch a Bethesda product ever again.

And I'm sorry Bethesda guys for that last comment, it's not against any of you guys, but the sheer frustration, and lack of any support in fixing the problem, just makes me want to walk away altogether.

hey, im a bit rusty but had the xbox goty version without a live account, so just installed disk one, then two, then disk one again to play the game from, so it was only using the hdd to store disk two content. Is that what your missing, have you put disk one back in?

I've got both discs installed... The stuff shows up in my memory usage system settings, and it's taking up the GB space on the drive. When I turn on the game, I get an 'extra content loading' type message on the game startup menu screen, but in the game there's nothing from the extras.

I played some more today. I'm up to day 5 in game time, and still no message about an island in the bay, and I've talked to a bunch of people and there's nothing about an attack in Anvil, so it appears the KotN stuff isn't working either.

Either I'm missing a critical step in setup or something, or the disc is faulty, as best as I can figure!

I have no access to the internet, so I can't do anything with X-box Live. Even though this new unit has the Wi-Fi, I haven't been able to find a signal I can connect to. Plus, if there's anything technically complicated I have to do to set that up, then I'm pretty screwed, cause I'm not technically proficiant.

oh, so it all sounds normal except for not getting the messages. So youve gone to the Chapel in Anvil and theres no guard on the steps, and youve swum out to Niben bay with no huge Sheogoath statue? Just checking you havent accidently missed the messages cause of when they were triggererd

Iguess last choice is to uninstall and reinstall the game. Idk how for the xbox, so should look around some xbox forums for any guides and try that. And my comment not having a live account, was I installed it offline, the same as you have, so that might be irrelevant if its connected or not.

edit: as an afterthought just looked at the first thread of this forum Xbox 360 technical issues and the 3rd comment (Sept09) refers to some new copies of Oblivion goty needing an xbox live dashboard update for the 2nd disk to work, which can also be updated offlline by installing any other new titles including it. Could try that first

Oh, I know how to install, uninstall, and all that. I'll try that next chance I get. i haven't gotten as far as to actually swim out into the bay, or go to Anvil itself... but I was under the impression that the island in the bay message would leave a note in my 'Quest status' pages, but there isn't one there.

I forgot about the dashboard update... My last unit had the proper update, and I still had all these problems and many more that I'm thankful i don't have now. I had also assumed that this newer X-Box 360 would have all the current updates, but that was just an assumption, so I'll check later.

I'm still hopeful that something will work out. I want to play the extras, and eventually get all the downloads, but I want the certainty that things will work.

i called Bethesda,they told me that this sometimes happens.they said to download the GOTY version from x-box live.they said sometimes the game disc does not have the codes on it to recognise the
new contant.im gonna give it a try.

Ok, can you clarify that?

What would I need to download from x-box live? The actual game, or the extras?

What do you mean 'game codes'? Is this saying disc one, or disc two is faulty?

And most importantly, would I get this free of charge? cause between the Platinum edition I have, and the GotY edition I have, I've already spent $50 on this game alone!


Or... If I uploaded my Platinum edition as well, then would things work???


Lastly... How do I contact Bethesda myself? cause everywhere I've looked says to use these forums to pose questions, yet it seems that they don't answer anything themselves.
They may make good games, but their customer rep is some of the shoddiest I've ever seen!

i am sorry,iwas not very clear.iwas not so clear couse i am not yet sure what to do.so i will start over.
after updating my dash only to find out from game stores that i really didn't need to,,or so they say,i remembered that my
copy of morrowind had a phone number for Bethesda softwhere support.tomorrow i will post it if its ok to do that here.
any way the nice lady told me that once in a while this happens and for some reason the GTOY disc will not recognise the
extra contant.she said i could download the game from x-box live into my counsole.,,i dont have a clue yet how to do this.
i am so new at this kind of stuff and so frustrated,,, i just wanna play the game,, ARGHHHHHH.

It is very frustrating. But I am playing the game, just not with the extras... Unless they activate later, but as of yet there's no evidence of their existance at all in-game... Although it says "Loading extra content" every time I turn the game on.

The problem has been resolved!

I took my system somewhere where I could get it online, and the update from X-Box Live fixed the problem.

It seems when i got the 'extra content loading' message before, it was wrong, cause now that message stays and then confirms the content. And now I've seen the signs in game!

I know this has been some time, but i just got mine working and decided to post it.
I went back to my friends and back on x-box live and got the update again...just like before,
and this time I wen't ahead and decided to play the game while still hooked up to x-box live.
I got another update!!!!!!!!!!!.I played the game while still hooked up to x-box live and it was fine.
So I un-hooked and all is well.I guess I fell into a goey pile of DUMBLUCK hahahahaha.
Anyway ...it works........so far.
