How do you approach a game like this?

Post » Fri Jun 24, 2011 9:36 pm

Very simple, I thought of making a poll, but then I think a poll could never make a person's true will of making a RPG experience good and true one, if a poll was implemented. It would only show a few cases in how you would play.

So, better is speech or as here typing your ideas.

I start the game with exploring, I can never help myself from talking to this or the other person...which sometimes gives me quests. But I'm strong in my belief, that I need to know my surroundings before anything, and that's how I play.

I take my time to get accustomed of my whereabouts and then I start to talk to people. I need to understand my starting settings first. In many games I love the quick levelling, but not when it comes to Elder Scrolls, I want to know where I am to start with, then I will figure out WHO I am.

So, I would call myself a cautious scout in the beginning. I'm not ready to kill rats yet.

How do you embrace a new game?

I go straight out and explore as well. Maybe find a city or woodland area.

I wipe everything out around the first few towns in the game and continue doing so as I move to other towns/cities. Usually don't do the main quest.

I go out into the woods and look at nature and how well crafted it is....

I then go to the nearest small village and find out as much as possible at what is going on in the world and will catch up on as much as possible over what has happened over the past 200 years since Oblivion..... I think a local bookshop may be my first point of call........

I probably have the worst approach. I always make a character to basically burn through the main quest and guilds. Once i've done that, and i'm a bit more familiar with the game, i make another character and really go in depth with exploring/sidequests/levelling etc. I'm gonna try and not do this for Skyrim.

I'll start roaming around and exploring the place I start at. First get to know the town a bit better, try and find all the details and interesting places etc. before I go on.

I geberally start spending time in the cities and branch outwards and take time to explore the wilderness and develop a good network of discovered locations to make questing easier

Gameplay-wise, I test the basics and limits of the three archetypes, with some spells here and there, try sneaking and the detection system, and much heavy combat

I plan on doing alot of dungeon crawling and socializing until I can slay me some dragons :)

A slow beginning to know where you are is the best for me. :)

To spend some time to have a look around, maybe enjoy some sceneries and avoid encounters, my play too! :)

Unless the beginning is like, "OMG Dragons are out! Finish the MQ as quick as possible!!!" Like Oblivion did :(

Morrowind's beginning was much better IMO.

Head as fast as reasonably possible to the College of Winterhold. That's my character's reason for going to Skyrim, and if you are going to have magic as a profession, may as well join the union.

I would basically start off by exploring the world. Whenever I discover a dungeon/ruin (place that requires exploring) I would take a piece of paper and write down the name of the location. Then clear it. Ill tick it on the list if it has been cleared. Keep it unticked to check back later if I feel like it. I would also roam the tundra plains and if i'm lucky, the occasional side quests and random encounters. I would progress through the main quest line after maybe about 3-4 hrs of exploring then alternate whenever I feel like it.

I start out by stealing minor things, eventually leading to breaking and entering at night and the inevitable death of an NPC. From there I continue along my path gaining riches to sell or use. Eventually joining the dark brotherhood at some point. If I don't have to kill someone I'll join the thieves guild first. I hope fences aren't in the game like in Oblivion. If I steel a repair hammer how in the hell does a NPC know its stolen.

I don't know.. I'm rather miffed at how people are accusing Skyrim of being dumbed down. (by people, I mean myself)

So I'm half thinking about doing a speed run attempt of the game the first time through, and half thinking of not doing that.

Now Ariano, we have no classes and you can make the big choice of your gaming life.

My tips, start humble and grow into the game. If you want to be the strong warrior, you can be him, but you might find a reason to play a different type of character if you look deep enough.

But playing the game once and THEN decide what you wannabe, is somewhat lazy.

Then you're not really roleplaying anymore, you just found the best way of beating the game....on the second try.

So, really, try it slowly and don't try to level too fast, enjoy the game instead of beating it. :)

You can play that ninja easily on the first try, if you want to.

I start off small, and work my way out into the world. I usually try to get myself in the atmosphere of the game to start with, by talking to everyone in the first city and gathering all sorts of nonsense rumours. Then I take on a couple of side quests and explore a couple of caves, for a little bit of cash and loot, and slowly discover some locations out on that giant map. After a few quests and a few dungeons I'll usually be set up with a place where I can store all my loot, and from there things happen very quickly. Before I know it, I'll have uncovered 1/4 of the whole map.

My plan is, if the game starts us off in a inhabited settlement, then I`ll spend quite a while talking to NPC`s, learning the layout of the settlement and gathering/stealing any valuables I can find, with the idea of upgrading weapons/equipment as soon as possible. After a few hours of gathering info, quests, equipment etc. I`ll head off into the wilderness to explore the nearest ruins and dungeons, all the time trying to familiarise myself witth the local landscape and inhabitants.
Once i`ve fully explored the first general area, then it`s off into the wide world for some plundering/dragon shouts and general shenanigans. After that..who knows? maybe an Assassin will be born..or a thief...or just general bloodthirsty drunken warrior..it`s hard to say until you start playing really.

Since the bar is probably in a town it takes me a while to get there. Right after getting thrown into the game I'll walk around my immediate vicinity then try to fingure out whats going on in the world. From here my characters opinions on things start to form and I just go where the wind takes me.

I love to explore and find quests among my adventures. I do the main quest only when it's convenient for me. Obviously if I have to travel across the country to complete one part of the quest, that is of low priority, and I would just do some side quests along the area.

I usually do a bit of everything in the beginning. First few missions of the main quest, join and do a few of the guilds first quests, explore, etc. That does be on my first playthrough though. This time around I plan on taking my time much more, and actually roleplaying things out like I usually do on the second and third playthroughs.

So, given I'll have just escaped/been rescued/whatever from my own execution I think, RP wise, its a good idea to travel a goodly distance from wherever that event happens (ie. Explore) then find some small village where I can do some of those NPC jobs for some coin, laying low and all that. Eventually move out into clearing nearby caves/dungeons and gradually become more and more of an adventurer. Then comes the dragons and the "oh [censored], my life will never be the same again!" realization as I start hunting the scaled beasts. >: )
