So, my backlog of games is... just a little bit excessive atm..


In total, I have 93 games in my backlog over various platforms and genre's (if you want I can list them lol)...


and while i really want to play most of them (with the exception of a few crappy ones i got for free).. I can't decide which one to go with..
I'll start one, get 30 minutes into and say "you know.. that ones been sitting in my pile for awhile, i should go play it first..




How do you decide what game to go with first, when you have a bit of a buildup in your backlog..?

I have about 190 games on Steam I have not even launched, about 10 CD/DVD-ROM based games I purchased in the early to mid 2000's I have yet to even install, and a PS2 with Shadow of the Colossus I have yet to complete.

I find myself playing the games that are the most repetitive such as NBA 2K. When I start other games, I get bored and don't get back to them for such a long time that I need to restart from the beginning. A lot of people beat the South Park game in 1-2 days. I have over 40 hours into that game and yet to finish it. bah!

My problem in particular is I only get one day off work every week. I then proceed to spend that day with my brother drinking and playing more NBA 2K on his ecksbaux.

I have the same problem OP. I have about 80 or so games in my backlog, and the decision to play one of them is so cripplingly hard that I have actually gone two weeks now without playing a game because I just can't figure out which one I'd rather play more. I finally broke that indecision last night and started up Neverwinter Nights 2, I've played it before, but only for about 20 minutes, I was to busy playing other games the last time I installed it. Hopefully I make it a bit further this time.

It's a lot easier when it comes to choosing which handheld game I play(For some reason, I've entirely associated my handheld systems with my bed, so I only play them before I go to sleep). I play one, finish it, and then spend 5-10 minutes figuring out which one I want to play by figuring out what kind of battle systems they have and how in-depth they are(98% of my handheld games are RPGs). Right now I'm playing Persona 4, after this I think I'm going to go with a traditional RPG, probably end up playing one of my Lunar Stars, or Summon Nights.

Not saying anything against you in particular, but just in general is that I don't try to buy games if I'm not going to play them. Sure you can get crazy sale deals, but if you never play the game it's just wasted money.

As for what games I pick? I try to figure out a genre of game, general at first, then go more specific and try to see if I find a title I think I might enjoy. I'll research it, read some reviews, maybe watch a "lets plays" unless it's a new game. Some games I just have faith in and almost all of the time my intuition has rewarded me (like Red Dead Redemption...I was on board with that game before the details starting coming out, just knew it was going to be epic).

EDIT: btw, also because of what you said there crippknottick is why I think debate that use Steam total unique downloads as a major part of their argument as a bit weak because it just seems so many people have these huge libraries that they never go through. again, not saying anything about you specifically because I don't know how fast you move through the pile, but just in general.

I'll either flip a coin, play Ennie-Minnie-Minny-Moe or ask the all mighty Magic 8 Ball.
