How do you decide what to do?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 2:21 am

If you don't want to do the MQ for skyrim or just burn through faction quest lines, how do you decide what to do? Yeah...

I just don't know what to do with myself.

Occasionally I'm playing a character and I just loose direction and delete it lol

Help

Do you feel like you need to save quest / content for other play throughs or do you just do everything?

Basically when I started the game, I just went to Riverwood and started from there not knowing what I was gonna do. I've gone through the Thieves Guild and the Mage College quests so far, and am finally taking on a bit of the MQ today. I'll probably stop and try out the Bard College quests soon, and do the Companions questline as well. My char will probably be a completionist.

The way I have it planned out. I have a warrior character who will do the Main Quest and companions quests along with random quests

I have an evil character assassin thief

Also I will have a civil war character 1 for each side

Travel?

You don't have to do any quests at all, really. I didn't visit all of the cities with my first character, so I'm doing that now. Going around Skyrim clockwise, from Falkreath all the way around and ending in Riften. Hitting lots of roadside dungeons along the way.

I'm just about to leave Solitude, then hit up Morthal and Dawnstar. Takes a while with all of the exploring.

I do what I feel like it fits my current roleplay. That's why I couldn't wait to do the Stormcloak questline with my main character :)

Flesh out your character before you begin playing (his/her backstory, reasons for coming to Skyrim, etc.). Makes it easier to figure out what you're going to do when you have a character, or at least an archetype, that you understand through and through.

In the nicest way possible I'll say that your looking right past the best part of the game. The secret is you do what you want to do. Who cares about direction. I'll be in the middle of a quest and out of nowhere someone will need my help and I'll start that. It's the beauty of the game. I do understand where your coming from though. It's a little overwhelming at times, especially at the start. I was like you at one point. Now I do a little of everything. I'll be doing some heavy combat then decide to switch it up and put on a destruction robe and a magic enchanted ring and necklace and role with it. Once you get to the higher levels it all works out well.

I will tell you your problems because I had it. Your thinking way too much. You just got picks direction and walk. See what you see, meet new people, kill enemies, do whatever it is you please. I can spend hours and hours just looking for weapons to disenchant. My point with everything I said is don't think about it just do it. Whatever it may be, you may not know what it is but it will happen.

Or if this doesn't work for you just stay in one area and do all the quest given to you. Eventually those quests will lead you to new areas. Join a guild and just stick with those missions. Find something you want, it can be a certain shout, armor, a weapon, or a house even, just go get it. This game has so much. Just lastnight I found a staff that turns my enemies into rooster and bunnys. It's all there for you to find.

Do you guys feel it's easier to make decisions if you rp? The character I'm making now is based off a character from a moba game League of Legends lol. It's Ashe the frost archer. I'm gonna go archery and always have a frost enchanted bow, will also use sneak for scouting purposes, and considering getting detect life. Gonna go for a whole restore peace to skyrim thing and do some of everything

i decide based on the role of my character. Just finished my first character a lvl 33 one hand and shield warrior. Aside from the MQ, I completed the Companions questline and Stormcloack Civil War. Took part in some side missions and few random encounter missions. Only touched the Mages College to get access to a vendor to get ahold of Deadric Hearts since I wasn't interested in doing them at the moment. I'll parcel out parts of the game based on character arch-type. My final character will be a 100% completionist.

Come up with a reason why your character came to Skyrim in the first place. Then come up with their disposition.... are they quickly offer a helping hand to everyone they talk to, or are they in it just for themselves.

So far most of my characters have simple want to join a single faction and work their way up.
