How do you feel about once a day powers?

Post » Wed Mar 11, 2015 3:56 pm

Depends on the character. If they're powerful enough I tend to forget about these powers.

This wasn't Isolde's case, she who happened to find a certain dislike for Astrid at level 10. After assessing the fact that her magic won't overpower this opponent, Isolde panicked used her fiery ancestral power and ran in circles casting healing spells while the cloak took care of the rest.

In Skyrim I use the orc and Breton once a day powers fairly often. They are both pretty useful for boss fights against the right sort of foe. I rarely remember to use shouts though and when I do its usually the utilty ones like Become Ethereal and Whirlwind Sprint.

Ok......at low level going to see the greybeards you often get a snowey Sabrecat or the snow bear on the steps between shrine two and shrine three. They are insta kill lethal, especially on Legendary. If you play Dead Is Dead, so no reloads, that is a game destroyer.

How to get around it........ta da! The Nord Racial once a day dose of Battle Cry .....which is a fear spell equivalent that works on high level enemies. See those Sabrecats run from you ha ha ha!

It's also good if cornered by high level bandits and you need to get away without getting hit.

Like (seemingly) everyone else, I always forget about 'em.

But I do like Night Eye. Granted, I think it should just happen.

They should be extremely powerful (like a get of of jail free card) to justify the 24hour timer.

Most don't do enough damage or provide enough benifit to be worth using a second time and are forgotten.

The same with the Solstheim stones. Make it worth traveling back to get the blessing again.

I don't use them often.

There is no in-game explanation for why I can only use them exactly once a day (and probably hard to come up with a good one).

I tend to assume the racial powers etc are some sort of gift from the Divines, and the daily limitation is imposed by them. I rarely end up using them in vanilla, though my first Imperial character used the Voice of the Emperor a fair bit (once got chased indoors by some bandits I hadn't noticed, used it, watched them walk out, very satisfying, then I looked around at the mess it had made of my decor...) I'm currently playing Requiem, which changes them, e.g. Highborn now means my Altmer has unlimited Magicka for 60 seconds (incredibly useful) vs better Magicka regen in vanilla. I still forget I have it quite a bit, and my Altmer has a fairly large Magicka pool anyway, but I'm starting to use it more. I'm also starting a Dunmer and a Bosmer, have to see what their powers are.

most of you mentioned the racial powers - am I the only one who annoyed by the fact that the beast form of the werewolves is a daily ?

I mean, I can transform by will, but only after 24 hours?

I think they should change the Powers in the next game to work more like Shouts.

I hope they don't. The problem with the once-a-day powers is that they're too good for constant use with a low-level character. The long cool-down is the only thing that keeps something like the Dunmer "Ancestor's Wrath" from being overpowered. The alternative would be to nerf the power, thus making it pointless.

I've forgotten about them in practically every TES game. On top of that, I forget to use most shouts most of the time as well as the existence of most spells. My characters make horrible mages because of it, so all of my characters just use some magic on the side...when I remember...*if* I remember....

Like others- forget about them, don't use them.
The delay between shouts is bad enough.
Your race should affect you more significantly at all times and drop this once a day power stuff.

even more annoying are the all maker stones which require you to wait a day AND go back to it each time. I mean they are very strong abilities, even if most are reused assets, but i wish there was a better way to go about it.

I never use them. It seems that even though my character always has several options, just swinging a sword until the enemy is dead works well enough and I really don't have to think about it.

yeah, me too. I keep thinking things like "this is only a draugr Death Overlord and a few restless draugrs and some skeleton archers, what if I run into something DANGEROUS later on?" ;)

It usually doesn't occur to me that, since this is the boss fight, I'll not likely BE anywhere more dangerous in the same day...

I wish using one once-a-day power didn't disable all once-a-day powers. I have a vamp, for instance, that can calm, resurrect, or go invisible once a day, but not all three.

I have a mod installed that makes all racial powers lesser powers and thus can be used about every 60 seconds or so, and I STILL forget to use them except for rare occasions. Yeah, I could make an Orc that lived in Berserk and was totally OP, but that is what restraint is for, just like I could also console in or mod in a god sword to kill everything in the game too. Main reason I added the mod, is so that if I did want to use the racial powers, I wouldn't pause and think, is it worth it, what if something else comes along....etc. It allows me to just stay in the flow a bit more and play, and honestly, why shouldn't an orc be able to get really mad more than once every 24hrs...for roleplay I can just say he has to rest more and take a few days off...

There has to be some way to extend the effects of dragon aspect in the vanilla version. By some combination of crazy potions/perk/etc.

They're useless, I like the Orc power but the once daily thing kills it for me...it should have a cooldown like shouts.
