So How Do You Feel About The Info On Skyrim?

Post » Thu Oct 07, 2010 9:43 am

It's a little too early to tell for me.

I guess I'm leaning more to be worried but I'm still keeping faith they've made good decisions.

As Urdnot Wrex would say: "Better than I feared, worse than I expected".

Literally that :)

Wrex seems to say things best when they need to be said. Currently, this is my position.

For me, the perks will either make or break the skills that ended up being further reduced. I can deal with there being 12 or 20 dragons, but I hope that they are the only 12 or 20 dragons. I hope the level scaling is FO3/MW's level of level scaling.

Other than those and a few other things, I'm liking the other stuff.

I'm just going to start off with saying you're way too cynical. Your comment about it looking like a mix between Gothic, D&D and Diablo instead of TES is hilarious. Furthermore, series evolve over time to improve themselves and keep the series fresh. Having 40-odd skills and dicerolls was nice 20 years ago, but worthless nowadays. The series was always going to have more action, and it's not weird that the less useful skills such as mysticism disappear.

Also, if there wasn't any thought given to casuals, the game wouldn't sell nearly as much. Which would mean AI probably would have the same level as morrowinds (read: pretty much none), graphics would lag behind to modern games, and physics would be poor.

I understand and accept the improvements in case of technical aspects, like AI or combat, but there is also sth which could be called "the character" of the series. I can hardly feel it's TES anymore.

Extremely mixed feelings.
I'm not sure what tot think, many things really pissed me off... On the other hand some improvements were made.
TES is my favorite series of all time and I'm worried. :(

18 skills is really smart. The best thing about role playing games is the story you create yourself for your character, not the arbitrary numbers determining what you can and can't do.
I'd rather have no armor skills and only 2 weapon skills, and then use perks to better specialize my character. You'll all see when the game is released that it's really a much more dynamic, involving system.

Speaking as someone who's sunk a huge amount of time into each of the four main entries in this series, the Elder Scrolls series doesn't have a consistent character. Every game in it is significantly different from every other game, and this is actually the second time they've completely overhauled the character system (and the first time they did it, the overhaul was much more extensive).

Well, the things I do like:
+ leveling
+ perks
+ better faces
+ enchant
+ cooking/farming/mining/woodcutting/blacksmithing
+ overall envoirment
+ unique landscapes / dungeons
+ dynamic snow
+ wildlife

I'm not sure yet:
o levelscaling and quests (more negative expectations)
o story (~)
o combat (more positive expectations)
o skill list (~)

Indifferent:
x graphics
x dual wield

The things I would not like:
- attributes gone

I'm not really sure right now, the gameworld seems nice, but im worried about the gameplay.

So far its very so so pending to crap.

The plot is already being dubbed as DRAGON AGE 2 dragons everywhere even inside your pants. (LAME LAME LAME)
The GFX seems inspired in AGE OF CONAN which is not bad
The quality of the GFX seem rather good, if propper modding is allowed THEN it ll be great,
Some good things inserted in gameplay, others quite bad, and an overall remain to be seen to judge effect.
More Lore, good for once, i expect new books.

The plot seems to endup as bad as expected, latter coming, comon iteration of an overused asset, lack of inspiration so far.
The gameplay seem to have great potential.

My overall feeling and past experience tell me TES V will only be good as a platform for inspired modders.

Now the really [censored] stuff

bullet time skill (Whats that ? Next step to FPS ? F.E.A.R will be our clan and V.A.T.S (Very Anoying Tard Sistem) ou nickname ? Well we be able to wear hardous environmente suits or servo drived armor powered by portable nuclear energy device ? I GOT IT !!! THATS THE LAME WAY WE RE ABLE TO KILL DRAGONS !!!!

dragons a common enemy

fast travel comes back along with compass.

we won't be able to choose the attributes we want to improve. WEREACTIONGAME... TES is definetly morphing.

LVL scaling back, i hope they came wih something well though and not another brain fart.

You ARE the Dovahkiin! (lame Lame Lame , this information should have been kept secret, more Oblivion [censored] feature, splashed on your face from the start.)

The things potentially ridiculous :
perks WOW, AOC Anyone? What will be Beth next step TES MMO ?????

LVL scaling back, i hope they came wih something well though and not another brain fart.

LVLing system

The good or seem to be good:

Environment

Crafting incorporated.

One thing that disappointed me at first was the fact we won't be able to choose the attributes we want to improve. But GCD mod from Morrowind did exactly this, and I enjoyed playing with it, so it's cool :) Bethesda finally changed that attribute system, no more efficient leveling :foodndrink:

Another thing was fast travel, I just hope someone makes a mod like CTN for Oblivion ASAP

The most scary thing I saw was action game features, in the combat system. So many things to do, this isn't an RPG-type combat system for sure. This is exactly like WoW is (except there it's the number of skills) and I hated WoW. I like games that require skill, like online FPSs, but not so much in an RPG. Every RPG I liked didn't have such an action-game system.

Another scary thing was that monsters and enemies will be adjusted to your level and skills (I think that was what I read, can anyone confirm?). If it's not well implemented, I expect an Oblivion-type level scaling.

Then there were other things I liked very much, like the improved radiant AI, duels, more random NPC behaviour, etc...

Cooking/farming/mining/woodcutting/blacksmithing I liked very much too of course :foodndrink:

Level Scaling is hopefully not Oblivion level. If it exists, fine but if its to that extent, I will be waiting for Oscuro's Skyrim overhaul(or any Overhaul that would achieve the same result)

Level scaling is necessary to make the game still interesting at higher levels. They just messed it up a bit in Oblivion by every single person in the world glass and daedric. I'm guessing scaling is done more with levels than equipment now.

I'm pretty excited :D Can't wait for the hub to go up now - the summaries on here were cool (thanks everyone who contributed), but the scans were of poor quality so I nearly bust an eyeball trying to read the print and it'll be nice to see better quality images.

From what i've read here it seems like they've merged TES with Fallout, can't be 100% sure because I haven't read the article but that's something I really didn't want.

and what's bullet time?

I'm extremely disappointed. Many things seem to be dumbed down and clearly created with casual players in mind. Dragons will be common, not mystical. We will have to slay them repeatedly in 1vs1 battles (sh*t...) and even gain "dragon shouts" for doing so (wow, it's almost like the achievements system! GREAT JOB, BETHESDA!). Number of skills will be reduced - again. Conan inspiration does not bode well for uniqueness and the graphic style (bare-chested barbarians charging at dragons with giant swords in two hands) is very non-TES like. Even the graphics itself is not THAT impressive - first screen-shots from TESIII and TESIV made a better impression IMO. I cannot comment on the AI system - we were promised a great system once and it didn't work at all.

While I like some of the announced improvements (better faces, no zoom in dialogues, monsters that fit the province etc.), ATM it looks like some sort of mix between Gothic, D&D and Diablo, not another game from TES series. After a very atmospheric intro (the trailer, the encrypted message and the classic box art) I expected sth deeper and more interesting. I hoped that they would follow the trend of Shivering Isles, but the game may be even worse than Oblivion. I don't want to sound dramatic, but we may soon witness the destruction of the true, unique character of the series. Maybe it will be a good action game in itself, but that preview was a bit of turn-off for me.

Seems to me they realized they needed to do some changes and also developped a fallout game in the meantime. This caused them to have some ideas they also used in fallout, being in Skyrim.

Bullet time is a gimmick where the rest of the world goes into slow-motion while you continue to move at normal speed.

I'm worried that the Radiant storytelling will be a complete cluster****, unless John Carmack did a mind-melt with the Bethesda development team.
