How you feel when your follower die?

Post » Sat Dec 17, 2011 8:57 am

Hello,

I cause the death of my archery mentor Faarthal.

Its all my fault, i shouldnt get angry with him and told him to go home when he keep blocking my path. He just stood there so long, i lose my patience.

So after some enchanting at College of Winterhold.

I decided to start my WolfSkull quest. Upon moving out toward Winterhold. I fight my first Elder Dragon. Faarthal return to assist me.

But after i kill Dragon. I found Faarthal corpse.

I almost cry.

Rip Faarthal.

I actually felt none of the followers in the game were worth much at all. Zero connection and I could careless if I get them killed.

I'm not happy about it. But it does nothing but irritate me.

I do whatever I can to minimize people anywhere dying. Even gave a sea/river burial to some travelers that were killed by something and one in Winterhold cause their bodies just kept laying on the road and I got sick of looking at them messing up the view.

When Lydia died I was bummed (and a bit annoyed). However my char, a self centered Chaotic Neutral thief didn't give a rip. She never liked Lydia and her right wing military attitude. After the battle that cost poor Lydia her life, Teddi simply pulled up a seat, enjoyed a bit of rest and some venison as Lydia's (looted) corpse lie not 20 feet away.

I usually reload because I feel kind of "attached" to them. Unless I feel like there's a need for new companion, or I found a better one, then if they die, they die.

I am attached to Lydia. But I honestly reload when they die. Not just out of sentiment but because I can't lug all my stuff back.

When a follower dies I could care less. There are always more, and I use them for monster bait anyway.

I've never had this problem. The first thing I did when I got Skyrim was make a bat file that sets all the followers to essential, including the dogs.

How do you cicrumvent the problem where the first time a necro follower perishes they turn into a non-ressurectable pile of ash?

Well I usually hire a mercenary. I try not to get them killed but if they die, then I go get lydia until I find someone else. If lydia dies though I reload the game

none of mine ever die. I play on expert difficulty and they'll take a knee and then all the baddies come after me. If I get killed I reload but if I can beat the baddies then I heal up my companion. They're much more resilient than I am.

Hi all,

The followers/companions in Skyrim are terribly coded IMHO.

They are nothing but primitive auto-attack/defend the player bots.

The command system for followers/companions is terrible also.

The way I feel when a follower dies is:
Bethesda, WHY did you not do this like Fallout 3/Fallout New Vegas and give the player the ability to empower the follower with better tactical commands?
It reminds me of Bethesda's laziness in this glaring respect.

I'm pretty sure that Dark Brotherhood Initiate's can't be killed. I've taken the female out on some tough quests and dungeons/caves and she kicks ass and takes names with hardly any injuries.

However, for you guys with weaker followers, you can always easily resurrect them . . . if you play on the PC . . .

Press the Tilde key.

Click on your follower with the cursor.

Type the word resurrect.

Press the Enter key.

Press the Tilde key.

IT'S A MIRACLE!!!

No, that isn't why my DBI follower hasn't died, I've never had to do that with her . . . she's a friggin demon.

EDIT: You can also do that with all other NPC's.

I feel like I can now turn around and walk back through a door without having to shout the stupid doorblocking companion out of the way. :P

Here's what I do. I clear out an area and don't bother picking anything up. When everything is dead I walk back through and pick everything up using windsprint to speed the process of walking. Once outside again I get on the horse and teleport to town and walk to the nearest shop to sell it all.

But I like my follower as a distraction and because it's nice not to feel so alone in the world. I just wish they would patch soon and fix the bug where they don't level up with you because Lydia is a total wimp now. Everything puts her to her knee in one or two shots. It's kinda sad really. But if I accidentally kill her I just reload. The worst is that as a spell caster I am really limited in what I use around her since she takes damage from any aoe spell. Chain Lightning is probably the most annoying because I love using it but it jumps to her too which is really stupid. Like I can't control my own spell. It's not hitting me. Why does it hit her? I wish they would fix that too.

Erandur hasn't died yet,hopefully he won't.
Joldi,my character, has grown rather fond of the old man.
She like having him around to help her out when she needs it.
They also make a good team together, she gets up close with an axe and shield while he hits from afar with fire spells.
I do know that she will mourn his death greatly if he ever dies.

I killed Shadowmere by accidently jumping off a high cliff. I was devastated and reloaded because of such a trusted friend the ol' mare is.

In my first game I killed Lydia because she was angry at me for damaging her too much. She rushed me and I stabbed her to death. I would have felt bad but she shouldn't have lost her temper so eagerly.

Nah, that's the only thing I ever correct. Doesn't anybody realize the when they say "could care less" that they are implying that they actually do care and possess the ability to care less than they currently do?
