How do YOU fight dragons?

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 6:29 am

If you are at a point in the game where you're OP and have a weapon that one shots dragons and have made 3 posts about re-balancing the game just say how you did it before you got to that point. I play an archer my horse tanks the dragon while I shoot it for 10 minutes. Real fun. Now tell me how you do it, feel free to describe specially epic moments due to terrain or other circumstances.

Shield bash and heals to regenerate my stamina. Perhaps summon an atronach if I'm feeling bored.

Edit: And this went for my first dragons as well (I had respite pretty early on)

Shout them down from the sky and kill them with shield and sword (and maybe a daedra or two) and yes, it is epic!

Bows = not epic. (to me).

It was much more intense to fight shield + sword on a dragon, too bad I didn't get a finishing move.. How do you trigger them? Do you need to be near the head or can you be anywhere?

I normally find a large rock or structure that the Dragon will land behind, peak out and have him breathe his breath weapon, then get in a few shots before he breathes again, hiding behind the protection ALWAYS so my health is never hit. Dragon then flies around, finds no where else to land but the same place and I repeat this process until the dragon is dead. Very epic battles.

I used shouts when it was flying and as soon as it got to the ground I use that awesome looking 4 hit dual wield combo. Sometimes I use my bow, Lightning Eclipse.
It kinda svcks that it's impossible to avoid dragon fire :/

EDIT: Well I guess you can hide behind a building but usually there are none in my dragon attacks. Trees and rocks don't often give enough cover.

With my pure warrior, dual wielding axes it wasn't epic.

But as my Ninja (Stealth/Illusion) character, Dragon fights are epic and hard, so long as I am not anywhere near a town so the guards take care of it for me.

I play a warrior with a disdain of archery and magic. I get to play hide while trying to annoy the dragon, so I don't get fried, then when it lands I rush over and engage, bashing when it tries to shout at me.

Ancient and Elder dragons I tend to tactically retreat (at speed). Moreso, if they are the frost variety, my poor stamina bar!.

on my thief, i sneak away  but when i am see it is the most epic running away scene ever :teehee:

i also have a knight who tanks dragons while a follower blasts them from the sky (all shield perks and resist enchantments make me hard to hurt using breath attacks) who is pretty epic in a fight

My first blood dragon fight was horrifyingly awesome. I saw it in a forest so I ran to a more open area where a farmhouse was and some farmers. I hid behind the farmhouse while the dragon circled it and the farmers and townsfolk all watched me, they werent even running away. I eventually shouted it down to low health but i was also low on health. So I got my bow, peeked out from behind the farmhouse and stuck an arrow in its skull, RIGHT before it used fire breath on me to finish me. Then all the farmers were clapping lol. It would be even more epic if the arrow was shot in slow mo.

Care to go into more detail? I know damn well Iow level illusion wouldn't work on a dragon. I hope at least. It's practically impossible to sneak up on dragons also from my experience with my stealth archer that I retired from at level 26. Might need to pick it back up if it ever stops feeling so boring.

Not really epic at all. I wait until it lands, then take the elemental fury and my two axes and slay it in like, let's say, 10 seconds.

Ok well have you guys ever had good fights with dragons? Or did you all already know what it would take to make yourself really strong and destroy everything and do that right away? How was the fight with the dragon you had to go through to get elemental fury Scamp?

Ogol the orc charges in with a mace, shield and bunch of Ebony armor (the best I've found so far) tanks it while I fill it with arrows. If I run into one by myself, hide behind large objects and shoot arrows. Or lead it over to bandits or something and stealth so it looks for new targets. I've just started seeing Elder dragons and they are putting up much more of a fight.

I shout it down, then I kill it with a few dual wield power attacks. They are easy because I have so good damage, I got the swordsman perk 5/5 (twice one-handed damage dealt), and the perk that dual wield power attacks deal 50% more damage, I'm wearing ring and amulet of major wielding both give 25% more one-handed damage, and I'm using daedric mace and daedric sword, both improved to legendary, and my armor is daedric boots, gloves, armor (all legendary) and Masque of Clavius Vile, so I can kill them pretty fast and take quite a lot of damage my self

Depends on which character. With melee I rely on Lydia or whoever follower to bring the dragon down. Once its on the ground I rely on terrain to keep from getting frosted or charred then do my best to stay at its side and power attack until it is back up in the air. For ranged I arrow the crap out of it and let my follower do the dirty work, keeping my distance or attacking any limbs in line of sight from behind a tree if it's close and spitting at me.

I usually just machine-gun lightning bolts at him until he's dead. Stand in fire, whatever, I get free heals.

I guess that isn't very epic at all ><

My thief character isn't much different. Just shoot arrows at him and let Lydia take the heat. She goes down, but the dragon usually lifts off and flies around long enough for her to recuperate, just in time to become incapacitated again as I launch arrows in his general direction.

High Elf Mage: Marked for Death, Atronarch, Fire or Ice depending on what element the dragon is using. Heal while the dragon is circling(I always try to use as few potions as possible.)
Nord Face Beater: Marked for Death, bow until it lands and tear that mofo up as soon as it does.
Khajiit Ranger: Marked for Death...actually, I'm going to stop here. It's not very exciting.

I summon a fire Atronarch. Run to a clearing where I think the dragon can land to attack me. Then when he (or she) lands I rush him with dual one handed sword attack whilst using the shout that let you increase the speed at which you melee attack.
