How do you figure out which texture goes with which mesh?

During the past week I've compiled a list of tons of mods I would like to use and have downloaded and tried out most of them. Now that I'm almost done trying all of them out, I'm trying to make my list a bit more concise by eliminating most of the clothing, face and hair mods I have. Basically, just making one mod that only uses the meshes and textures I really want.

My problem is I can backtrack which meshes to use in the CS and try them out in the game to see which ones I like, but it doesn't have a spot for the textures so I don't know which ones I can keep and delete.

Moreover, if I want to rename the files it seems to mess everything up. I don't know if this is true, but it seems like the mesh and texture files are linked together before they are put in the CS. So, if you change the name of a mesh it'll screw up the textures and the object won't show up when I load the game.

Can somebody please explain this process to me a little bit? Thanks!

You'd be correct. You can find which textures are tied to which meshes using this tool:

http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/NifSkope

If you look around inside the mesh, you'll come across a texture entry that points to the path where it's stored.
