Been a pc gamer for about the last 4 years or so. Before that I hadn't played any games in about 10 years (whatever was available. At the time it was most likely Sega Genesis.)

Current specs

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 Yorkfield 3.0GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W
GPU: PNY XLR8 VCGGTX470XPB GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16

PSU: Thermaltake Black Widow W0319RU 850W ATX 12V v2.3, EPS 12V v2.91 CrossFire Certified (it's a shame too, I have an NVIDIA card)
Monitor 1 :ASUS VE276Q Black 27" 1920X1080 2ms Full HD HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor
Monitor 2: Stored in the closet
Speakers: crappy DELL speakers that came with my previous pc. At least they still work.

I have a PS3 but still almost exclusively play on PC, specs:

E6600 @ 2.4 Ghz
Geforce 9800 GT
2 GB of RAM
Windows XP

Aside from games requiring DX10 I haven't run into any games that I couldn't play.

Be jealous.

I've got a PC and a 360... no internet atm though so I'm playing the 360 almost exclusively.

I've have OB and some other titles for the PC, but I like the ergonomics of a controller better... could never get used to playing games like OB on the PC, I'm too used to the controller setup. I do fine on the computer with games like Starcraft though.

I love when my guts rumble as explosions go off around me. Lots of base just adds so much more depth for me. It really helps with the "oh poop" moments, such as in scary games.

That was my experience when i first used 2.1 speakers. Base for sound is like bump maps for graphics :D

When using my PS3 or Xbox 360, I sit back on my massive leather reclining coutch. I have a 47 inch Samsung 1080p LCD television with 5.1 Bose surround sound.

My PC set up is kind of strange. It's in a corner of my room, and I use either Altech Lansing (something) speakers, or (this is the strange part) Beats Studio by Dr. Dre with a little USB microphone on my desk. I have a 23" 1080p Dell LCD (something) monitor, and a 20" HP LCD (something) monitor.
My PC:

Case: Lian Li (something)
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 O.C. 3.92ghz
GPU: XFX AMD Radeon 6950 1gb
HDD: 1tb WD Caviar Black
Ram: 4gb G.Skill DDR3 (2x2gb) and I ordered another 4gb (2x2gb)
PSU: 700w OCZ (something)
Mouse: Razer Deathadder
KeyBoard: Logitech g110

I have a fairly good gaming PC, a PS3, a DS Lite, and a GBA SP.

The computer cost around $600ish when I built it two or three years ago, and can still play Crysis 1 perfectly fine (not that I actually play Crysis anyways). PS3 hooks into the same 21" monitor as the PC, so that cost a little bit of money...and both the PC and the PS3 route audio though my Creative Xmod for consistency. No speakers here, I consider them rude in situations where I have to live in a single room with a roommate.

I have about a dozen DS games, and half a dozen GBA games and some GBC games, that I play on the DS Lite and GBA SP. This is what I'm trying to make my primary game time. Handhelds are where it's at as far as I'm concerned. Adore games like the Summon Night series, and I'm utterly apathetic about every single release on the PC in the last 3 years and for the future years to come. Need to play the PS3 more often too, since I really do enjoy Bayonetta, and I'm waiting for the Ico/SoC bundle to come out in October (or whenever it's supposed to be released).

I'm thinking of going in a different direction for my next computer. I want to make a small form factor machine that's tailored for straight up internet, video, and multimedia, with very very VERY light gaming if any at all. I might even put Linux on the thing, which just goes to show how far I've gone away from PC gaming. :P

Edit: Oh and I used to have a Wii that I played Muramasa and Fragile Dreams on, but after I got the balance board thing for my mom last Christmas it's de facto her's now. Really should get a new one for myself though...I liked Muramasa and Fragile Dreams...

Edit2: So I can be one of the cool kids I'll post the PC specs...

CPU: 2.5GHz Intel Pentium Dual-Core (Wolfdale architecture I think)
GPU: Radeon HD 4600
HDD: 500GB WD Caviar Black
RAM: 4GB Corsair-something-or-other
Mouse: Standard Microsoft Wireless Optical mouse. I like it so much I had to special order a replacement when it broke because they don't make them anymore.
Keyboard: Standard Microsoft Wired Keyboard
OS: Windows 7 Pro

I have all of the consoles, and play on a 32" LG LCD tv. I buy most of my games for the consoles, aside from a few PC exclusives.

My setup is too dusty for you people to see, I live in a big city and there's also a construction site just outside my room so it takes about 6 hours to all get covered in dust, so no pics!

Also, I'm a PC only kind of guy, I hate controllers and console games are mega expensive here (about 100$ a pop) so even if I were to get used to a controller I would still shoot myself before I buy games here.

Monitor: LG W2286L 22" LED 2ms
GPU: GTX 460 768mb
CPU: Intel Q6600 2.4GHz
RAM: 4GB G.Skill DDR 2 2x2 800MHz
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

I've got a Razer Lachesis as my mouse, and a 5 year old Zboard

Also, yes I know my specs are weird but I recently got a new GPU 'cause my old one died and currently I'm bottlenecked and all that, but the point is I run all my games on highest settings on max res and there's nothing more to ask really...

Also, I gotta stop saying also :dead:

360 on a 32" 1080p TV. Does the job.

My PC gaming is limited to 5+ year old games and freeware as I only have a bottom of the line laptop. I do tend to play a fair amount of freeware on it though, mainly point and click adventures and the odd RPG.

Monitor: ASUS VH222H-P Black 21.5"
GPU: Radeon 4870 1gb
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.0GHz
Ram: 8gb (Forget what kind it is.)

I built this rig around two years ago and it's still runs games at max settings fine. Also have a 360 but it's just a paperweight at the moment.

I play on: NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, PS2, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS Lite, PSP, Wii, and my computer. I have plans on eventually buying a PS3(old one that is backwards compatible with PS2 games), a Gameboy Advance SP(so I can play my old Gameboy games), a Dreamcast, and possibly an Xbox(that one I'm undecided on).

My computer is decent, though a bit aged now, it's a quad core 2.6Ghz with some Asus Motherboard. dual 9800 GTS(or X, not sure) Nvidia Graphics card and 3 gigs of ram(I'd have more, but I use XP 32 bit, so it would be wasted). In the next few years I want to either upgrade this one(with a minimum of a GTX 460 Card/s so it's got directX11 compatibility, Win 7, and up to 8 gigs of ram. Don't care about the processor as it's still pretty decent, and the motherboard is fine as well).

Ever since the PS1, Playstations have been my main platform with some older games being played on my relatively weak PCs. Currently, the slim, 160gb PS3 is my main platform and I have it conntected to a 32", 720p Sony Bravia television via an HDMI cord.

 I've got a good set of speakers (Altec sticks), but I do like being able to hear the dialogue in games so I know what's going on. Which, depending on the game, means using headphones, because otherwise it'd be a constant fight between the speaker volume and the fan noise.

At least I've got a great set of headphones. They're not noise-canceling, but the sound's very good on them, at least.

Fan noise use to be a problem for me, then I got a new 360 and started installing my games so there was significant noise reduction. I also end up tinkering with the audio options alot when I play games.

Oh I feel the bass in my headphones. ^_^

I have good speakers too, with the subwoofer positioned right under my couch.

Yeah, you can feel the bass in your headphones, but its not the same experience. At least I dont think its the same.

So agreed. My opinion, if you don't feel your games, you're doing it wrong! (Though I do get why some people use them, it's just not for me.) Thus my saving for a nice 7.1 receiver and speakers. The consoles have no base. Though, I could hook up the optical audio cable to my PC and use these speakers. They're just not lined up properly for sitting squarely in front of the TV.

I love when my guts rumble as explosions go off around me. Lots of base just adds so much more depth for me. It really helps with the "oh poop" moments, such as in scary games.

Have you played Dead Space with the music up and bass up? Its crazy. One day I was playing a shooter and then switched to SF4 to play with my roommate. Sound was up, bass was up. Right after we got done playing I went next door, I walked in and my friend said It sounded like there was a war going on in your room and then a techno party lolo. Then the another person said Yeah, were trying to study here, can you turn it up lol

I agree it's nice but:

1) I have roommates and I tend to game late at night. Don't need them hearing everything.
2) I use a mic. I don't want that "loop-back" sound where they here everything in the game repeated through my mic.
3) 2.1 isn't the best speaker set up. I'd rather have the sound right up against my ears to find out where people are.

Down in the living room when everyone is there, blast the surround sound, but when I'm in my room, I rarely have the sound come out of my speakers.

I guess I'm lucky, roommates who dont mind the lound sound, after 11ish usually have to turn it down. Weekends though can play till 2 or 3 am with the bass up. Living on campus is a + in that way I guess. Everyone is always making noise.

This custom built PC costed me around 750-800 euros (1150 dollars) around the end of 2008:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 @ 3.16 GHz
ATI Sapphire TOXIC HD4850 512 MB
Gigabyte GA-EP43-S3L mobo
OCZ PC2-8000 2x2GB RAM (DDR2/1000)
OCZ StealthXStream 600W PSU
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 640 GB

All inside an Antec Three Hundred case.

Later I got an X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card, and I'm about to get Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, because I'm currently on XP Professional 64-bit and its driver support is lousy. I might get a better graphics card by the end of the year. Probably the Sapphire RADEON HD 6950 1GB.

PC only. There aren't any games that are console-only that make it worth to own a console as well.

I've been managing on highest settings on most games, and at 1920 by 1080 for 2 years with my rig:

Q6600 @ 2.4
HD 4830
4 gigs of DDR2

That isn't even high end for the time I got it, so I have no idea why it handles things so well.

I also have some really high quality headphones and good speaker system. My PC is for music also.

I think I'll have to deal with the fan noise until I upgrade to a different video card. I love my video card, but one of the reasons it chews its way through games so well is that it also OM NOM NOMs up power and runs very hot. Which means it also runs its fans a lot, and loud, depending on the game. (It's a very large card, also. Two GPUs on one card.)

You get used to it (my computer's a very nice white noise generator, actually! ;) ), but in games like the first Crysis...on Very High settings with the DX10 optimization being as terrible as it was, my fans sounded like they were trying to spin themselves into a low earth orbit.

No, not yet anyway.

I find stock GPU fan profiles svck. Download http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm and set your own fan profile.

For the past year or so i've been mainly concentrating on the audio side of things when it comes to my computer setup to enjoy the immersive bliss sound can bring to games aswell as to keep things enjoyable for myself and those within listening distance since the walls and floors in my building arent exactly sound proof :batman:

JBL Control One bookshelf speakers for nearfield listening which delievers crisp detailed clear sound even at whisper levels of volume and dont take up space in my small studio apartment.

A whole slew of headphones mainly for night time use though they sound so great i use em during the day alot of times which isnt exactly great for being aware of ones environment when using my closed headphones such as the KOSS PRO-4AA,Sony MDR XB500, Sennheiser HD202. I also have my open headphones which are better for not shutting out the outside world like my Audio Technica Ath AD700, Koss UR40. For the ultimate disconnect when it gets rowdy in the backyard or the 85 year old below me is feeling agitated i use my Shure SE115 IEM with Peltor President noise protectors the kind people wear at gun ranges for the closest peaceful silence to owning a house in the middle of the forest while enjoying a mace swinging feast of OBLIVION or shoot em up explosion avanlanche in FALLOUT 3.

All this connected to a ONKYO TX-8555 stereo reciever since i prefer stereo over surround sound.

For visuals i use a 19" Samsung SyncMaster E1920 monitor with a max res of 1366x768 which is great but doesnt allow for screenshots unless i switch to another res. Radeon 5770 brings in the graphic goodness with plenty of speed on a quadcore 2.5 Intel cpu and 2 gigs of memory with Windows XP. Planning to upgrade to Windows 7 in the future thanks to all the great reviews its gotten when it comes to gaming.

Don't own any consoles and I only have a laptop at the moment, but I'm planning to build a new desktop within the next few months.

Envy 15 laptop
  • i7-820QM 1.73 GHz (3.06 GHz max turbo)
  • AMD Mobility Radeon 5830M (usually overclocked to 550MHz(core)/1100MHz (memory)
  • 16GB 1333MHz RAM
  • Dual Intel X18-M G2 SSDs in Raid 0 (2 x 160GB)
  • 1920x1080 display
  • USB 3.0/eSATA
  • very portable as it is only 1.05" thick

I sometimes run an HDMI cable to my 1080p projector (Optoma HD20) when gaming on the sofa. The display is projected huge on my wall (about 7ft x 14 ft) in 1080p so it looks very cool. Sometimes a little hard to read small fonts, though.

Peripherals:
  • Targus Wireless Mouse
  • Microsoft Bluetooth Number Pad (I remap all key bindings to the number pad)
  • Dr. Dre Beats Studio headphones (cheesy but they work great)

PC. Hardly ever use my 360, especially since building this computer. 2500k and a 6950. I game on a 23" 1920x1080 monitor. My headphones are ATH M50s, though once I move in May I'll probably get a good 2.1 setup, or maybe 5.1.

AMD AthalonII X2 @ 3.5GHz (Overclocked to hell.)
GTS250 1GB OC edition
4GB DDR3 RAM
160GB piece of crap hard-drive
17" CRT monitor

Nothing special, but I figure I can use it for another two or three years before an upgrade is crucial.

In my house I have two set ups for my wife and I to geek at the same time. We both have 360's, she plays on a 40 inch LCD 1080p samsung and I play on a 32 inch 720p samsung. Both have surround sound set ups with polk and infinity speakers, subs, and yamaha recievers for 5.1 dolby digital surround.

I used to play a lot of RTS games on the PC but most of my gaming now is on 360.
