How do you game

Post » Sun Jun 06, 2010 5:49 am

Though I do play games like WoW and older rpgs on my computer a lot of the time, the thing is weak :brokencomputer: and thus I am forced to look to my 360 as my main means of video game playing. Though there are many worse things I can be playing. As far as my set-up goes, I have my 360, the original 20 gig version, a 42-inch Vizio television  and a sony surround sound system, without the sub hooked up, because I have roommates. For the most part I really like this, consoles allow for comfortable playing, and my system is pretty great as far as I am concerned, especially considering with both television and surround sound, the system only came to around $1,000 or so. Not too shabby. So yes, from everybody old schooling the snes on your classic boob tube, to those with your $2000 dream computers, tell us what you play on.

PS3 120GB, play on a 56 inch rear-projection TV that's slowly dieing. Used to have a surround sound system but... Uh... it "broke". Bummer.

And I play with ZERO-TOLERANCE.

just kiddin'. but I'm really starting to wish that there were some kind if "age dividing" or even a "maturity level test"(edit: for online games) so I can play with people who... oh,I don't know....know how to play? jeeeez-us

I own a 250GB 360, 320GB PS3 and a good gaming rig. I have a 40" 1080p Samsung for the consoles. (Saving for a 7.1 surround system.)

My gaming rig consists of:

MSI Big Bang Xpower
I7 950 @ 4.2GHZ
Crossfired 5870's
6GB @ 1600MHz 7-8-7-20
X-Fi Titanium sound card
5.1 speakers (6.1 really but I just use 5.1.)
24" BenQ @ 1920x1200
80GB Intel X25-M SSD

Pics: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/jasonsteele/Comp%20related/IMG_0453-1.jpg?t=1302274891, http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/jasonsteele/Comp%20related/IMG_0419.jpg?t=1302274892, http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/jasonsteele/Comp%20related/IMG_0457.jpg.

Some games I refuse to play on anything but PC. (FPSers/TES/Fallout series.) Others I prefer on the console for simplicities sake. (Platformers)

It gets cold up here in the winter. (Unfinished attic with nothing but bleed through heat from downstairs.) I find I play more console games during the winter because I can sit under my 3 blankets in my bed. I do have one for when I am sitting at the PC but it's not as comfy. (And I hate when my blankie gets all caught up in the chair wheels trapping me. :D )

Ps3 250gb on an old-ish 40inch 1080i Sony Bravia. No surround sound. :cold:

But most of my games go on my laptop, which is an Asus G73jh-A2.

Radeon Mobility 5870
intel i7-720QM
8 GB DDR3 RAM
1TB 7200 RPM HDD
1080p AUO LCD

It can play most games pretty well.

My PC was about $500ish, consisiting mainly of a GTS 450, Phenom II X2 555 BE, and 4Gb RAM. She sits upright on the floor next to my desk, which holds up one monitor sitting as intended, and another in portrait mode resting against the wall (Because [censored], I am *not* paying that much money for a stand that rotates. I'll get some monitor clamps one day, but not a stand that happens to turn!), two cheap speakers, a G5 mouse and a G110 keyboard (If anybody's interested, I recommend the former, not the latter)

I'm a PC gamer myself. My setup is custom built; cost me around $1.5K all told (for the computer itself and all the trimmings):

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 @ 3.0GHz
ATI Radeon HD 4870x2 2GB
Asus P5Q Pro P45 LGA 755 mobo
8GB Corsair RAM (DDR2/800)
Thermaltake Toughpower 750W PSU
1TB SATA II 7200RPM hardrive
Windows 7 Pro x64

It's a wonderful rig, but it's starting to get to the point where I should contemplate upgrading. My video card can take anything I throw at it, but it doesn't support DX11, and my CPU is starting to be listed in the recommended requirements for games like DA2 and The Witcher 2. Some day when I have the cash I'll probably upgrade to a new CPU (and presumably motherboard). GPU can wait for a bit.

I posted some pictures of my computer the last time we had a thread like this, so http://tyraarane.riumplus.com/gallery/d/1253-1/Gaming-Space-2011-002.jpg http://tyraarane.riumplus.com/gallery/d/1257-1/Gaming-Space-2011-003.jpg http://tyraarane.riumplus.com/gallery/d/1249-1/Gaming-Space-2011-001.jpg. Though that close-up of my tower was taken before some the LEDs went out. I've replaced the ones on the front panel with something a little less neon since then.

I used to be a PC gamer years ago but not that much anymore.. I game in my "Man Cave" where I got a 60gb fatty PS3, Nintendo Wii, SNES, and Xbox 360 Elite all hooked up to a 50" plasma with a decent 1200w surround sound system. Sounds great, looks great and I can get it pitch black down there so no glare issues. I got a regular comfortable couch but I think I will be upgrading that to a super nice couch with reclining chairs sometime this year... oh and a mini-bar fridge stocked with my favourite beverages. :)

Although I have a laptop that will play Morrowind excellently (though few newer games), I am a console gamer and have been since I was a kid and my parents first brought home that NES and original Gameboy. Nowadays, I have my original generation 20gb Xbox 360 hooked up on my 26" Vizio TV in my bedroom, with a variety of chairs to choose from to sit in while gaming. It's a very comfortable set-up. That's why I prefer console gaming. I feel I have to sit at a desk to play on the computer and that's never that comfortable. But with a console and a wireless controller, you can lounge in any comfy position.

My PC was good (but far from great) when I bought it in 2006, and though I haven't yet upgraded it, it's aged rather well for my needs. My needs don't stretch much further than FO3, CIV4, Portal and Minecraft, though. I'll be getting a new one in 2012, almost certainly.

And I have a Wii for occasional platforming and party games. And Netflix, lots of that.

I'm mainly a PC gamer. I own a Wii for platform games and for games via Virtual Console service I used to play as a kid.

I've had consoles, but find myself drawn back to the computer and computer games. Not to say those console games when growing up did not offer good times and fond memories.

I just got rid of my seven year old PC yesterday in exchange for a new one. Needed a new one not only because the previous specs were outdated, but ready for the modern computer games coming out.

New computer's specs are as followed,

Intel Core i5 2500
4GB DDR3
GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Asus Xonar DS PCI
1TB WD Black HD
Asus 12x Blu-ray Burner (I like watching movies on the PC more so than TV, for some reason)
Cooler Master HAF 922
Seasonic X-560 PSU
Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Mostly play on consoles these days, but I'm still buying PC games, always building that backlog.

NES
SNES
N64
Wii
DS/3DS
PS2 Slim
160GB PS3 Slim
PSP-1000
Xbox 360 S
Dreamcast

PC
Phenom II X3 720
EVGA GTX 470
Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P
4GB OCZ Reaper DDR2-800
750GB WD Caviar Green
Corsair TX750
NZXT Panzerbox

Older consoles are hooked up to either a 36" or 20" CRT, everything else to a 32" Sony Bravia EX400 and Sony HDX576WF HTiB. The HTiB doesn't sound great, but gets the job done and will be replaced eventually by a nice Onkyo receiver and Polk speakers.

Lots of nice PCs I see above. Good job you guys.

The setup in my signature is in my study. I have a big comfy office chair, and I use big, noice cancelling headphones.
It is for games only.
all other computing is on my cheapo laptop.

PC gamer at heart, though my roommates aren't really, so we all gather on my roommate's Xbox 360.

My PC:
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-M57SLI-S4 AM2 NVIDIA
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.0GHz
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX470 1280MB
RAM: OCZ SLI-Ready Edition 8GB (4 x 2GB)
PSU: OCZ GameXStream 700W ATX12V
Monitor 1: ASUS VH236H Black 23" Widescreen LCD
Monitor 2: Acer 19" Widescreen LCD
Speakers: 2.1 Logitech
Headset: Logitech (wired version of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104227)
Mouse: Logitech MX518
Keyboard: Logitech Illuminated

I have two Xbox 360s. I bought a 60GB one off of my friend and I won a 20GB one from GameRevolution about a year later. Mine are in my room (20GB in my closet, 60GB hooked up to my ASUS monitor). Our setup in the living room is a 120GB Xbox360 hooked up to a ~49" Sony LCD TV with a 5.1 surround sound system. It's in the living room facing the windows, so no glare, and we're never home when the sun is coming through the windows, so no sun in our eyes.

 I've got a good set of speakers (Altec sticks), but I do like being able to hear the dialogue in games so I know what's going on. Which, depending on the game, means using headphones, because otherwise it'd be a constant fight between the speaker volume and the fan noise.

At least I've got a great set of headphones. They're not noise-canceling, but the sound's very good on them, at least.

So agreed. My opinion, if you don't feel your games, you're doing it wrong! (Though I do get why some people use them, it's just not for me.) Thus my saving for a nice 7.1 receiver and speakers. The consoles have no base. Though, I could hook up the optical audio cable to my PC and use these speakers. They're just not lined up properly for sitting squarely in front of the TV.

I love when my guts rumble as explosions go off around me. Lots of base just adds so much more depth for me. It really helps with the "oh poop" moments, such as in scary games.

I agree it's nice but:

1) I have roommates and I tend to game late at night. Don't need them hearing everything.
2) I use a mic. I don't want that "loop-back" sound where they here everything in the game repeated through my mic.
3) 2.1 isn't the best speaker set up. I'd rather have the sound right up against my ears to find out where people are.

Down in the living room when everyone is there, blast the surround sound, but when I'm in my room, I rarely have the sound come out of my speakers.

I have a PS3 80 GB and ye old TV and play just for the fun of it. I've manage to get the PS Move controller and I have a couple of games that you can play with it (A Bowling game and Killzone 3) and the PS move works really REALLY WELL.
