How do you RP a Khajiit?

Post » Wed Aug 21, 2013 7:46 pm

For the RPers out there, how do you RP a Khajiit who is not Dragonborn?

I had this question for a long time and it has always bothered me, so I'll ask my fellow Khajiit brothers, how do you do it?

If I play a rogue, most likely I'll roll a Khajiit. But from an RP perspective, it's really hard if you aren't dragonborn, since Khajiits aren't allowed in cities in Skyrim (which is major BS imo).

So, what do you do? what is your backgorund to be allowed in? or do you avoid cities all together? I simply stopped RPing Khajiits and just play them lol

Khajit characters can enter the city, it is only the NPCs that have this restriction. The only real restriction is you can't marry another Khajit (there are not spousal Khajits in the game)

I would imagine you to prove yourself you will cause no trouble. Maybe RP that your weapons and armor are removed before you enter the city. Buy yourself some normal clothes.

I'm playing a Khajiit beggar called Therris. He lives in Riften.

He wont join the Thieves guild but he does steal food when he is hungry.
He drinks milk daily because... Because... I dont know.
He steals from the black briar family and get thrown into riften jail every day.
Eventually when the people accept him (By doing small favours) He will earn enough gold to leave riften and guard a khajiit caravan group.
He will follow the Khajiit caravan to its destination and then adventure for a while and return to the caravan for when it is ready to move.
After earning enough money selling to the khajiit, he will live in Lakeview mannor.

The Khajiit caravans cannot enter cities because they deal in Moon Sugar and Skooma, but individuals are pemitted to enter.

I know the PC can enter a city lol But I mean that in Skyrim, people don't let Khajiits enter cities, right? hence the caravans are always outside... The only reason a PC can enter is because you have to, it's like the game doesn't acknowledge you as a Khajiit. So my question, for people who like to Role Play is what is the excuse they use to enter a city, since if they RP, they are bound to respect the "no Khajiit rule" =P

See, I find that hard to believe... Ysold said no one trusts them, and further more, have you EVER seen a Khajiit NPC within city walls? Think hard, have you?

I always assumend that invidual Khajiits could enter, it's large groups like caravans that need to stay outside.

The developers didn't bother adding many Khajiit and Argonian citizens into the game, as they didn't bother fleshing other elements out, but individuals are still permitted to enter. The caravans aren't trusted because of the Moon Sugar and Skooma trade, and individuals are easier to keep an eye on inside the walls of a settlement.

Here's one, but beware of spoilers - http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Shavari.

Well, something is odd here. I mean, you DO see Argonians in walls (even if just a handful), Riften and Solitude, are the cities I can recall. But Khajiit aren't seen anywhere in walls. I don't think this was simply a development poor choice, since you could see LOTS of Khajiit in walls in past ES games. I think it's something related to Skyrim, maybe even prejudice xD.

Nah , they are clearly forbidden to enter cities a book and a npc tells that , Nords just can't stand them , i mean they barely tolerate the Dark Elves and Argonians so you'd be hard pressed to enter a city as a Khajit if you want a credible RP , except at the College or Solitude perhaps since Imperial aligned cities seem to be more tolerant but the way i see it , you need to have done something exceptional with a Khajit in order to get a free pass (like clearing lot of bandits or slaying a dragon ) , but there's no way they'd let you in otherwise imo

Yes, I completely agree with you. Khajiits RPer will have a hard time in Skyrim (unless they are Dragonborn) xD

the are some mods that add underground areas like sewers with city exterior access.

It's great for characters who need to avoid the guards.

Did you not notice the link regarding Shavari?

Also, there just aren't many Khajiit in Skyrim - even Ri'saad and his fellow travellers lament the cold climate. They are a long way from home. Maybe the developers simply decided there shouldn't be many Khajiit in Skyrim except for these travellers.

Which book would this be, and also which NPC?

A credible RP is entirely down to the individual - for me, it's entirely credible for my Khajiit to enter settlements. Owing to the fact that our personal RP is merely head canon and it is never going to be official regardless of how much effort and research we've put into it, I'm fine with using my imagination and filling in the blanks and changing things I don't quite like or don't think are fleshed out enough. That said, there's no way people would refuse a Jellicle Khajiit entrance into a settlement - they are the only real solution to the bards!

I'd say that sniffing your poop shoot would be a heavy RP element.

Seems to me that gaining access to the city to steal from those who would shun you would be motivation enough. :D

Get yourself a follower and pretend you're their servant while you're in cities.

For PC players, these may help:
Khajiit speak, makes the player dialogue choices sound like something a khajiit would say: http://www.skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/14513
And four legged sneaking and sprinting animations: http://www.skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/22604

Just started a Khajiit file couple weeks ago, and I usually just wear a hood as soon as I get out of Helgen. But considering the fact that my whiskers still poke out of a hood I joined a group of hunters (By helping them slay a frost troll) outside Windhelm. Since I am now a skilled hunter, able to provide meat for the nords, they allow me into cities. You could also prove to the locals your purity by busting the skooma dealer in Riften. And you can get into Riften by bribing the notorious corrupt guards.

As a sell sword from Elsweyr.

Khajiit can be gr8 swordsmen and gr8 archers. You could be a highly trained Khajiit swordsman / archer from Elsweyr turned to be a mercenary who sells your skills to those that csn afford you. You could have crossed the Skyrim border as a result of work.

This one was easy for me. After Helgen my Khajiit followed Ralof. When asked to go to Whiterun she did as requested, When she got turned away by the guards because of the "dragons about" she was off the hook. Told him she'd come back some other time. Obviously they knew about the dragons so she did as was asked but the news reached them before she did. She is a mage so she traveled to the college, joined up without fuss and her and J'zargo travel about together wondering what those funny word walls are :)

BTW J'zargo looks awesome in banded iron with a scimitar hanging from his side.

Ysolda's trying to drum up sympathy for the Khajiit Caravans because she's in cahoots with their smuggling.

Except the game doesn't properly react if you're "Where you're not supposed to be". It completely breaks immersion to try and play a city exile sneaking into the cities just to be greeted with "It's a fine day with you around"s and other warm/nonchalant greetings.

When dealing with the major walled cities...some allow you to bribe your way in the first time you visit. I RP that the bribe now allows me unlimited access. As far as the other walled cities....sneak in unseen. Once I sneak in without being seen by the guards on the outside of the wall I RP that the guards inside are under the impression I bribed my way in and they'll get their cut later. I must sneak in successfully each time...there are ways.

As far as only the caravans only argument.....that's a cop-out. Khajiit don't hang in the cities, they don't live there, sleep there, work there, or shop there.

Easy! Just lie down on the floor and let people walk all over you! (Be a rug).

Or just tightly hug another person. (be a coat)

Or just let people pet you. (Be a pet)
