How do you Kill Alduin ?

Post » Fri Dec 10, 2010 9:30 am

In one story about Superman that I′ve read (you can find the name of it in the spoiler tag), Lex Luthor fails to defeat him no matter what he throws at him but he finally defeats him by appealing to his conscience. What if the same could be done to Alduin ? Do you think Alduin has enough of a personality to be persuaded to go against his world engulfing instincts ?

Maybe the hero could win the day with words rather than with might.

Spoiler
Superman: Red Son

Superman isn't a god of time.

I don't see it, he is a god. We are a mortal, a powerful mortal...but mortal nonetheless. In his mind, he is more than likely justified by default.

I wouldn't necessarily put it past Bethesda. Ever play Fallout 3? There a major quest that can end almost word for word the way you describe.

Anyway I'm interested to see how they deal with Alduin. I'm hoping for some kind of twist or plot complications that make it more than just a matter of 1) Find Aludin 2) Kill Alduin 3) Buy DLC. As we have it now, the plot sounds a little too similar to Oblivion.

Trying to talk Alduin out of eating the world may not be the highest idea but has he ever been physically defeated and after all it is mentioned in the 7 fights of the Aldudagga that "The greedy man" and "The king of leapers" stalled him more every time during the kalpa feast. Here is a direct quote.

Alduin swallowed more of Mereth (this was the destruction of Njorvela and Teed County) and looked over. Indeed the Greedy Man was waving his arms as if to tell the time-eating dragon to stop. Alduin snorted gruffly (a few farms shot out of his nose but he caught them with his tongue and pulled them back into his mouth, for he eats it all) and said, "And the Greedy Man always waves his arms about around this time as if to stop me just like you. It is almost as if you two work together to delay me. Is that what this is? Is some other low spirit hiding portions of the world while you two do this thing? Is this why the kalpa-feast always takes a little longer than it did the previous time?"

If this is true Alduin does have a personality that allows him to slow down, unlike a robot that would mow the same path regardless of words.

But in the end when I think of it neither words nor force seem to work all too well. So can we even be certain Alduin will ever be someone we fight in game ?

That's how I defeated
Spoiler
The Enclave
and I found it very very silly. I would welcome an ending more complicated than just killing Alduin, provided it's executed well.

He's not a Daedric Prince. His realm is Mundus. He's eating his realm.

Alduin is orbiting Nirn. His "realm" is planet Akatosh.

I'd rather join him. And he comes from where we all come from. So you're telling him to continue his process.

Joining him is just silly.

"Alduin! I want to help you in your efforts to eat the wo--" *CHOMP*

How could he possibly benefit from the help of a mortal? He's eating the world, including the Dovahkiin. He doesn't need your help, nor would he want your help. It's like an exterminator getting help from an ant.

If you're a foolish elf content with false glory you might think that the destruction of Talos, removing the possibility of mankind, and letting the Time Dragon eat the world is a good idea, but who would want to support the Thalmor and their agenda?

You don't kill Alduin because Alduin is a god and you can't kill gods. Better to let him eat the world than to somehow murder the god of time.

I won't dare to guess how the final battle will go or whether or not we'll even engage Alduin in any form of direct battle.

Actually the gods can die. However, they are directly connected to mundus, and their death would result in the aspect of mundus they represent ending. Since Alduin/Akatosh is the god of time, killing him would essentially result in the end of time. Without time, nothing can happen, so if Alduin dies, mundus is pretty much screwed. Unless some mortal could rise up and take his place as the aspect of time. We know that mortals are capable of becoming gods, and even replacing them, so this is a possibility.

Though I highly doubt Alduin is going to die, but I wasn't expecting to become Sheogorath in SI either, so who knows.

But isn't that what the high elves want? To help the time-god so that they may join him and the other Aedra?

I've said it before - find Lorkhan's ghost, find his heart (in Aetherius or something), give him his heart back, he becomes a god again and drives Alduin off.
