How do you know which Major Faction to join?

Post » Sat May 26, 2012 7:19 am

It's all in the question. I've been all over the frickin place for The Legion, The Boomers (minor faction) and Mr. House who I eventually killed, doing missions. Now I've got the NCR trying to recuit me and the Yes man. How do I pick; who do I pick?

You make a decision - either a conscious one or or from a limb to see what happens. Ultimately you pick who you prefer, as there's no default "right" choice.

If you do not know what these factions are about yet, you haven't payed attention or been comprehensive enough. Do some (side)questing and gather info abou the factions.

Exert some willpower and free-will.

EDIT: Or pick a number, 1-4.

Listen to your heart when he's calling for you.

But really, pick whoever you think is the best choice for the Mojave. You won't be able to experience the whole game with just one character. Also by now you should be doing the DLCs.

The Legion isn't even a viable option! If you join the Legion, game over man, game over! hahahahaha

Wait a minute, you just started to play NV and you already killed House? o.0 Yup, you need to take your time and really explore the game, listen to people talk about the various factions. Talk to the people of the Factions...

Choose the faction that you think will benefit the Mojave. Oh and try to block out all real world bias you might have on other ideologies. Although some of those preconceived notions of dictatorships may be true in the context of 2012, in the Mojave, it isn't. If I really did use all of my real world bias, not taking the state of the Mojave into context, I'd definitely be an NCR supporter or a House supporter.

Indie is the most popular choice i think, probably followed by ncr and house. Don't pick legion, its way harder to do the majority of the game with every ncr guy you meet shooting at you, and every follower seems to hate them.

Personally i like doing ncr missions and then backstabbing them to work with the yes-man for an indie vegas, really up to you though.

I'm currently doing a stealth character who works for both NCR and Legion. Really is a Legion spy. As long as you do your killing while sneaking and never do quests that purposely hurt the Legion, you can get away with being friendly to both factions.

But this is Pre-Strip by the way. By the time you are granted access to the fort, you will only be able to do 1 or 2 quests before the NCR brands you a terrorist.

Pretty much.

At least you can't kill Yes Man. He's your only hope left.

Tha range of choice available is one of the great replayability strengths of this game.

First time through I just followed my instincts, since then I've deliberately explored the other options with different characters. You've got to try them all at least once, or you'll never see the full range of quest-lines etc that are available.

This is definitely not a once through and you're done game!

Lol this is what I was thinking :P

Pick whoever you think will make the Mojave a better place to live, who makes it more secure, who makes it peaceful, who makes a true reduction in crime, who doesn't rob the citizens of food and wealth, We Are Legion B)

Personally I'm level 13 and have just left the Lucky 38 after meeting House for the first time. I've mainly worked with the NCR up to now so in general from the people I've spoken to and the challenges they face (Fiends, Legion etc) have been leaning towards them. I'm not keen on the Legion after seeing how they massacred Nipton, and I'm not sure what to make of House.

But the best thing about this game for me is the way it's making me think about almost everything I do, so I'm really looking forward to the rest of the main quest and how my thoughts will change.
