How do you like Fallout 4?

Post » Sun Jan 17, 2016 10:30 pm

I love it, is what i'd call my perfect game. It combines some FPS, RPG, action/adventure. All in a wide open, enormous, open world built around the city of Boston.

For those loving the old in-depth RPG of yore, it's a broken leg. For those who like shooter/looters, it's a step forward. I like both styles, I'm just sad Bethesda can't seem to blend them very well.

Stalker is hardly a shooter/looter. It's an RPG with quite different mechanisms than most people are used to. When you start you are very weak and will die for reasons you don't understand. At the end you stride into hell, very well equipped for the journey, and a good idea why you are doing this.

The best video game ever made.

It's pretty fun, have a few complaints here and there with some stuff like certain quests or missed opportunities but it's a really great game.

As someone who's played fallout since fo1 I think it's a sorta bad fallout game. But as a game itself it's decent. Alot of unfinished content and alot of things taken out that I can't logically figure why. Quite a bit was changed when the old systems were imo better.

Am I having fun with the game? Definetly. Will I continue to play it for some time and check mods out? Yup.

As for it's rpg title.... I don't think nor view this game as a rpg but more of an action run and gun shooter with lightish rpg elements sprinkled in for flavor. Still very fun to play and do stuff in but going in thinking it's gonna be top tier 10/10 rpg will only leave you disapointed.

I also like and hate the voice acting since I feel with that added it really limited the options for dialog along with further pushing charisma skills down on the list.

But like the last 2 games mods and the community will finish/fix what bethesda wouldn't.

I find FO 4 better than the other FO games. I like gameplay of TES a little bit better, because I like the time settings where no lazer guns, but swords, arrows and magic. FO 4 more stable than TES games, but all FOs do have less heavy graphic to load. If you want to max out graphics on shadows, trees, grass and water - you need a good pc. I probably going to invest into a new ones soon, so I can use ultra instead of medium settings. I wish there is an option to build a huge city out of the settlements. I do understand that too crowded npc at the same place/location/area may cause problems, but you can stick with 20 settlers, but be able to build alot of houses, hotels and you even be able to install elevators. Npcs can hardly use lifts and elevators, but that could be fixed, by some autoscripts when a npc will move from 1st floor to topfloor.

We do have some unwanted elements in the game, but that can be fixed or avoided. Quests for every taste and radiant quests so you have something to do. Bethesda do not release such open ended games very often, so I will enjoy the game for a long time, but I still have something to do in Skyrim, Witcher and Dragon Age games, because I'm not finish yet. Still quests to do and some areas not done. I like rp games much better than fps and FOs / TES' let you to do that. Openended games where limits are only the map border, but even can be changed.

Cheers,

-Klevs

i'm enjoying it a lot, its the best fallout game ever made, it doesn't have to be the best "rpg" like a few are complaining about, its a bethesda game, it features combat, complex well crafted world, its very combat oriented with good enemies to fight, lots of tactical locations, lots of exploration, its the best next gen game as far as i'm concerned, nothing comes close to the world they made.

I played the original STALKER, and agree it is a great game, and a very good, atmospheric RPG. FO4 isn't even in the ballpark.

I got my money's worth, two playthroughs, well over 300 hours, but I have stopped playing it on xboxone. Needs a lot of work. The dlc + bug fixes have to be really good to get my attention again. Otherwise I'll pick up game+dlc during a $10 Steam sale.

Fallout 4 to me is the best rpg even better then my all time favorite Daggerfall. Here is my Steam review of the game which pretty much says it all especially since right now my mind just goes blank with white light euphoria beyond words to express its greatness-

FALLOUT 4 a monstrous euphoric world exploding with violent packed potent tonnage grim and ghastly! Just as the Elder Scrolls is a fusion of fantasy worlds where just about any character can be played FALLOUT 4 is a merging of countless science fiction possibilities.

Excellent huge perk system. Am impressed how it extends gameplay and makes perk choices much more important since i can only choose 1 per level.

Graphics look amazing.God rays add a haunting layer of depth to visuals. Facial expressions feel alive. World design feels authentic making me feel like am actually there with towns having a blissful realism and radiation zones nightmarish death soaked areas.Walking down one street is totally different from a previous street i was walking while still keeping visual consistency. Just like in real life it is like stepping into a different neighborhood each time one crosses the street. Energy weapons look and sound futuristic terrifying like a roaring angry Mom whipping out a thick belt before their fear gasping bratty kid.Raiders and other enemies are outfitted with marvelous looking attire many of which capture a 1970s vibe such as the GI JOE style uniforms. Posters and signs decorate many city areas making it a advertiser lovers paradise of stimulation.

When going against power armoured enemies armor plating is seen getting shot off like something out of a Fasa Battletech mech wet dream. Synths spark and crackle with electrical discharge as they are hit by enemy fire along with cybernetic body parts blasted off as if facing off against The Terminator.

There are tons of things to salvage and gather to modify, build with as well as use for repairs for things like power armor.

Voice acting is superb with endless variety where no npc sounds the same. The female and male vault player characters are wonderfully done with contrasting differences. Npc dialogue and story are magnificent never boring me.

Building construction system is very detailed, satisfying and rewarding as i build safe outposts for settlers to live in.

The ui and key bindings are very detailed and intricate.

Fantastic music which feels made for a masterpiece of a game. Inon Zur is the man! The classical tracks are reality disconnecting euphoria shaping the mood before me like some magical alchemical vapor. Who would of thought classical music could sound so futuristic and science fiction along with filling the air with a timeless romanticism. Hearing Magnolia sing is like honeyed nectar to the ears.Interesting radio disc jockey. Kind of reminds me of the ASTRON-6 horror movie character Karl. Too bad there is no sixy seductive voiced female disc jockey ala Adrienne Barbeau from THE FOG for those long lonely treks in the night.

Audio is mind boggling alternate reality immersive with power armor jumps getting earth shaking louder the higher you jump from. Synths vary from calculating strategic coldness to human like authenticity. Npcs all are uniquely voiced such as Mama Murphy, Preston, the Abernathy's, the spirited doing right Piper, Strong the hulking super mutant, mysterious Det Valentine, awesome Mafia bosses etc. Rain storms can still be heard in the distance when indoors. Radiation zones are eerie and unearthly. Radiation storms send a shiver up my spine as they are heard approaching.

A huge variation of exciting clothes and gear making it fun to visually outfit your character. So far i have had the Caleb from BLOOD cowboy look and the Demon Hunter look from the old EERIE Warren comic books. Always great fun to play dress up in Fallout. Armors which look bad a$$ cool as if blacksmithed by some HEAVY METAL MAGAZINE artist can now be mixed and matched with other armors when wearing them just like in MORROWIND which is big time welcomed and something i was hoping would make a come back.

Workshops for armor and weapon upgrades, chem making etc are indepth with countless modifications possible. You can also cook food with plenty of tasty recipies such as roasted roaches and mongrel meat for you dog lovers out there. Dead creatures can be looted for their hides and other body parts like molerat teeth etc. All the stuff laying around in the world can be salvaged and used for the above mentioned as well as for building. Very detailed and well done.

Highly stylish looking skill books which are a joy to look at the art work of. I probably have sold only one due to the great looking comic book imagery.

Monsters are much more animated and lifelike.Holotapes are fun to listen to and have a great animation when being inserted into a pipboy. Reloading weapons such as shotguns also are nicely animated. Dismemberment and decapitation have a thicker more meaty feel to them with a increased gruesome quality.

The Boston feral ghouls swift movement and lethal nature make them feel like classical graveyard ghouls from horror movies.

The world is very dangerously exciting. Not being able to tell where enemies are shooting from many times is definitely a cat and mouse thrill. Then there are the swarming ghouls who seem to just ooze in from small windows and garbage piles etc like horrors out of the movie THE CHILD. Hearing gun fire in the distant where actual combat is occuring gives a wonderful battlefield ambience urging me to investigate.

Weather patterns are atmospheric from sunshine inspiring to creepy radiation storms to moody overcast grey days. The environment really makes a difference especially in radioactive areas which is awesome to see how dangerous they are to me. Truly desolate devastation.

Weapons have their own sense of character. Energy weapons handle differently then ballistic ones. A mini-gun acts the way one would think it would in the real world cutting down enemies like hot knives flying through the air into bodies of butter.

Ai is lifelike insanity. Enemies are lethal geniuses using cover, dodging, keeping to a strong fortified position, hunting me down for a believable amount of time before giving up. I love how ghouls and certain synths seem to have limited intelligence which makes sense since the ghouls are pretty much in a vegetative state and synths would have differing levels of artificial intelligence programmed into them. Enemies can also tell when you are wearing Power Armor and comment on it.

The robots in this game look and act fantastic! Its truly a science fiction robot lovers paradise. Its nice to see they are not all out to kill me instantly including the military ones. Walking across the battle scarred landscape is like entering a virtual reality version of some of my favorite past table top games and sci novels such as tanks which remind me of O.G.R.E. and the BOLO books. Robotic animations are top notch.

Nice Brotherhood Of Steel power armor game mechanics where it needs to be fueled with fusion cores.

Power armor melee attacks are incredibly satisfying and visceral in their visual viciousness. How sweet it feels to POWER ARMOR PUNCH! a pack of crazed mole rats. You can paint your power armor with many colors such as hot rod flaming red or military etc.Power armor shows visual battle damage. Its a terrifying sight as a Deathclaw sends armor flying during combat.

Male and female bodies look stunning with plenty of macho manliness and sixy female power. They also feel very supple and firm when moved around.

Rain makes the environment look wet including the player, npcs and enemies.

There are cool show transmissions which happen randomly when starting up the game. Nice to see all those great pre-release videos being put to great use.

So here is a maniacal laughter filled schizophrenic thumbs up from one who is fortunately not having any performance issues with a i5 3570K, 8gb ram, GTX 970 4gb vram at a resolution of 1366x768 on ultra settings with silky smooth framerates and not a crash yet.

FALLOUT 4 THE ULTIMATE IN SCIENCE FICTION GAMING! A B-MOVIE MASTERPIECE OF GAMING INSANITY! AGGGH!!!

I like it well enough. It takes some steps forward in the improvement of writing (in some areas), adding actual factions which allow a number of ways to go about the main questline, improved combat, and what I think is Bethesda's best designed game world yet.

However, also taking some significant steps back such as the absolutely gutted dialogue system that lacks all of the depth of previous games, once again quest design that relies too heavily on excessive amounts of radiant quests or quests not too different from radiant quests in design, and despite appreciating there being actual factions, I find some were done better than others. Those others being severely lacking.

Overall, I do enjoy it. Those 240 hours into the game (and still counting) aren't for nothing. Though, I wouldn't call it the best Fallout game.

Bethesda Game Studios has released their best technically realized game to date with Fallout 4. .

There are significant improvements in the gunplay/ battle system area. Experiencing a battle grow from a small skirmish to out and out bombfests with aerial drops of the BOS thrown in for good measure, is immensely satisfying, and to finally have enemy AI that allows for using cover/ strafing / and making flanking maneuvers adds further to the experience.

The companion system is totally built up. Each one has some story to them, individual personality, (no voice actor re-use!) and are much more believable with the amount of depth and thought which was put into them. I really appreciate how they now make unique comments that are part of the quests, or interactions with other NPCs, and that they seem aware of changes between day and night, the weather, or even the level of threat coming your way. Huge improvement here, though obviously some repetition is going to happen. I do wish the number of chapters/levels varied when you befriend them though... it was still somewhat formulaic.

The use of a voiced protagonist allows for a mare cinematic progression of the main story. This dynamic is interesting, but appears to have made the story far too linear for my liking; the negative being the lack of versatility during a replay. At this point, and the game content is still not complete as we all know, I don't see myself ever returning to relive the main quest. It's more likely I'll reload /restart to use the new "builders set" DLC, and perhaps cut to the chase for whatever new DLC adventures are added in.

The game is excellent, but the trade off in the improved quality has been a thinning of content, which is disappointing. It does seem that while we've better writing and voice actors, the amount of NEW things to do, outside the main storyline is lessened. I hope with the next BGS game,( assuming it hews to the go wherever you want - whenever you want freedom to explore idea), we get back to more "handwritten" quests, ala Morrowind and Oblivion, and less of the repetitive was/rinse/repeat random generated schtick. And shelve the voiced protagonist, the best theater option is the one which I can imagine myself being in, as opposed to watching it play out for me.

An overall improvement over Fallout 3 and a tremendous improvement over Skyrim although the quest designs definitely puts it behind New Vegas in my opinion.

Very well written BUT can't really say it's a good review. Why? Because you have been paid off, or bribed. Oh I know you haven't and this is your opinion. The problem is you didn't name one NEGATIVE. There is a lot of negatives to the game. As great as the game is, you also need to write about what is wrong instead of just everything is great and there is no wrong.

You are really doing a disservice. Why? Because you lead people thinking this is such a great awesome game without problems. . Thing is, the game is ONLY great and awesome to you. For you to be taken seriously you have to point out the pitfalls, the negatives so someone can really see that the positives out way the negatives and you are correct.

I strongly suggest you edit your end and list what is wrong with the game. Same quests over and over again, glitches, and what ever else you feel can be improved apon.

Other than that, very well said, but can't take it seriously. I swear I am reading a review of Civilization V on release day and a lot of us know how that turned out.

I disagree. There are plenty of people here posting negatives and rants about everything they feel is wrong with the game. It's about time someone posted something loaded with positive things, happiness, and joy.

That is their problem, being so negative, they can't be taken seriously as well. All I see is fanboism. Just like how you have review scores of 0 that can't be taken seriously, just like scores of 10 can't be taken seriously as well.

The "Other people are doing it" is not a good reason to do something.

People aren't posting professional reviews here or even formal ones. They're just giving us their personal opinions of the game and probably don't care whether someone approves or disapproves of that opinion. If they don't want to post anything negative because that's not how they are feeling at the moment, then it's fine. It's refreshing to see such enthusiasm.

i enjoy fo hugely...especially the new features...i like the companions etc... BUT i wish

- there was more mutual exclusivity / varied quest(outcomes) for another playhtrough (evil / good options etc.)

- there were more rpg aspects - its very very light on the rpg side, not only regarding decisions but also regarding mechanics/systems (perks)

Thanks Davor for the keep it real reply on how to improve my review. Believe it or not i have changed my review at least ten times since November 2015 trying to be helpful as well as express myself in a rational manner instead of being too negative. What was interesting to see is the more negative i was the more up voted it got while the more positive i kept it the lower the up votes were. Another thing i realised is the more i played Fallout 4 the more these so called negatives either turned out to be subjective opinion such as the lessening of rpg elements to just not having any effect on my incredible enjoyment of Fallout 4 when it comes to the user interface which at first annoyed me until i saw just how detailed and intricate it is. Finally i told myself, "You know what the truth is out there already let me just express my personal enjoyment and positives i love about Fallout 4".

Thanks again Davor for the advice but i purposely made my review positive because that for me is the unchanging truth unlike the negatives which over time were not the disaster i first thought they were.

Thanks bekkilyn :foodndrink: This is exactly why i made my review as positive as i did. Too much negativity on the internet and not enough appreciation of what is great about Fallout 4. There are also enough reviews out there with both the pro and con facts that i feel there is no need to repeat the negative aspects which will sooner or later be fixed by Bethesda or Modders. Have a good one :obliviongate:

Love the game! Currently lvl 100+ and still didn't finish the main story but almost done. To many distraction ^_^. Mabe they can improve the story and add more unique quest. give more freedom to player on how they want to solve the problem in main or side quest like persuasion, diplomatic solution, bribery, intermidation choice. Just like what they did in skyrim where you can hold the war between stormcloak and imperial for the greater cause.
