I have never killed Fargoth because he is friendly and helps my characters in the beginning. I usually will break into his house and leave his ring and some gold on the table as a thank you. His evil twin Gaenor is another story.

I start new characters all the time, and honestly.......I ignore Fargoth. I keep his ring and use it for a few levels though.

Well this is a curious thread.....

When I first came here, there was a pretty much forum-wide hatred of Fargoth. I didn't understand it. He's a nice harmless guy, pleased to meet me, thrilled to get his ring back. I felt sort of bad about swiping his stuff later (though not enough to not do it) and I never even considered killing him, so I couldn't begin to understand the sheer hatred this forum had for him.

Seems that hatred has passed....

I'm almost more confused by the mention of Galbedir earlier. She's a doll - I developed a bit of a crush on her the first time through the game.

The only NPC I can think of right off who you aren't expected to fight but who I really want to kill is Ranis Athrys. Such a vile, spiteful woman....

Fargoth isn't exactly my favorite character, but I never kill him... I just steal all his stuff. B)

I never killed Fargoth either - sure he was annoying, but.. eh. And didn't the devs stick Gaenor in Tribunal as a response to all the Fargoth hate?

She is the reason I always go up the stairs outside of the Balmora Mages Guild and enter in where Galbedir is....and exit the same way....(when using the Mages Guild travel agent, of course).
I like to avoid Ranis Athrys at the door.....she typically says mean things to me, *sniff sniff*, and I steal the stuff in the chest on the way up the stairs, and sell it.
I rarely do the Mages Guild anyway. She is the very definition of "S'wit"!

Kill Fargoth? Why the hell would I want to do that?

He was actually the first thing that I killed on my first character. I gave him the ring and he didn't give me a good reward, so I claimed that he "stole" my ring and killed him. Oddly enough the guards didn't try to arrest me or anything.


Ever since then I've had a dislike for him, and bosmer in general.

Morrowind had Fargoth and Oblivion had Adoring Fan. I can understand Adoring Fan, him being a stupid grin butt licker, however I never killed him. But why Fargoth? What′s he done? :shrug:

I think they even had a "no more Fargoth threads" sticky for some time... IIRC what annoyed most people new to the game was the "I have a feeling that you and I are about to become very close" greeting that he gives you once you give back his ring (which is one of the generic high disposition Bosmer greetings). Since you didn't encounter many other Bosmers who really liked you I suppose he stood out from the crowd.

Fargoth is a filthy n'wah and deserves to be tortured at the hands of Dagoth Ur. bliviongate:

I didn't like Fargoth because i think i remember him as a lying little bastard. Gaenor however, i hated that guy..i just dont know why, i probably killed him.

He is annoying true, but I never had a reason to kill him or keep his useless ring. He is more usefull after I give him the ring as he gets me a discount at a certain shop.

Never have and never will kill Fargoth and to tell you the truth I like him He is a cool guy! He helps you out even when he has hit rock bottom in life.

It looks like a lot of people have finally matured passed murder now... That's good!

This topic actually inspired me to start a warrior character off by punching Fargoth and then running away from him and the guards. Why do the guards bother is beyond me. <_< The last one was left behind my quick Redguard + The Steed guy somewhere around Pelagiad.
