how do you play this game?

House is the only way to go. :spotted owl:

This.
I have started a Legion playthrough and the most difficult thing I had to do was turn down House's offer and side with his enemies.

I'm going to have to kill him and I don't think I'll be able to look!

I'd figure you could go straight there like in prior Fallout games, but it's "easier" if you've familiarized yourself with the game first since the direct approach so soon will be a lot more challenging than facing coyote pups.
I recall in F2 you could go straight to Navarro and get some nice power armor, but the path was not easy.

Okay thanks you guys

i read some journals and i found out that i put my stats in energy weapons yet i use guns! lol

this game is starting to get more fun
Energy Weapons huh?
Well.

You can buy Plasma Pistol, which is better than the AEP7 Laser Pistol you're most likely currently using, at Chet in Goodsprings or by Johnson Nash down in Primm, just due south.
You should also buy the Recharger Rifle frome either of them and get that guy... Colonel something up at Mojave Outpost to repair it.
Recharger Rifle, while bad in damage, has unlimited ammo.

You should also take the Incinerator that the Convict Leader in the Bison Hotel in Primm is carrying, it's a great energy weapon.

You can choice either or both.

I recommend doing a lot of the quests given to you in Novac when you reach it, they really help leveling up.

Oh... Well, get both up to 100 and pick their perks.
Energy Weapons (EW in short) has fantastic fun weapons like Flare Gun, Incinerator, Multiplas Rifle, Gatling Laser, Gauss Rifle and Tesla Cannon.
While Guns has fun weapons such as the Hunting Shotgun, Brush Gun, Ranger Sequita and of course 10mm SMG.

Anyway, for guns... I dunno.
Cowboy Repeater just east out of Mojave Outpost at a raider encounter.
Then uhm... Then I dunno.
I usually don't play Guns.

Played a character once that based the reason he got shot at the beginning was because of a large casino debt I'd try to run from. I then took the northern passage climbed the hill and dropped dynamite on the Cazadores. It was nice and I was able to sneak past fire geckos and fiends till Camp Mccarran. I did this because of my huge casino and gambling addiction my guy had. So it can be done. By the way I died a dozen or so times trying to do it.

It definitely can be done, but its not recommended for someone just starting out.

I owe OP an apology. When I opened the thread and read his post I immediately thought OMG TROLL. However, this clearly isn't the case so I'm glad I didn't cry shenanigans and wind up looking like a tool.

Hope you enjoy the game! Dont feel you wasted points in energy weapons, you can always bump the skill up later. Being proficient with different types of weapons is mucho fun. 'Hmmm, what to do, fill things with lead, zap things, exploderise things, or hit everything with a massive hammer?' :D

Kind of adding to the advice everybody else has given you already I'd suggest that you pick one or two combat skills and level them up, and use the weapons that fall under that category. It's not that you can't buff up several skills on one character but if you spread your skill points top thinly early in the game its going to make it a lot harder.

Oh and by the way the NCR is looking for good soldiers to join us in our cause, talk to a recruiter at your nearest NCR outpost and begin a exciting life serving in the military today!

If you want money and to be best friends with the owner of Vegas go with House.

All you'll get from the NCR is crap equipment and a medal.

Nonsense! We're taking America back little by little, and soon we'll have spread our ideals of democracy and freedom back across this great nation of ours once again! (And we'll bleed the ground red with all those that oppose our offerings of peace.)

Please, you would have to be stupid to surrender the Mojave to House/NCR and a freakin' genius to help the legion.
The mojave is better off on its own, free from old world fools and ideals.

Just remember to slow it down.
There is no reward for rushing through everything and skipping dialoge.
This isint Skyrim, people actually have important things to say, and you'd be wise to listen to them.

Remember this is an RPG, NOT an FPS.

The Legion offers a unified wasteland that may or may not be free and prosperice centuries from now.

Personnely I'd rather have a free, broken wasteland.

And House introduces the best Old World Ideals, to enjoy your life when you can. NCR introduces the corrupt part that caused the Great War in the first place.

Well this went off topic fast.

On topic.

Only go that way once you understand the game's mechanics; after that you can evade a majority of the things.

I've actually never gone through Quarry Junction to initially find Vegas. I always travel the long way, far more rewards and less enemies that can kill me in one hit.
