:slap: You know what he meant

In most cases it looks like you cut through the clothing to accommodate for your pip-boy (leather armor for example)

For things like Power Armor....Well you'll just have to use your imagination ;)

Well how come when I get done swimming my character comes out dry? How can my character carry loads of weapons, ammo, drugs and armor with ease? How come every set of armor seems to fit so perfectly? The answer to all these questions is that you're playing a game and in order to enjoy it fully you may have to temporarily suspend your disbelief.

Fixed.

It's never been said that you can't take the Pip boy off. it's not attached to your arm. It is has been indicated that it is difficult to take off though, so it's probably not something you do often. But imagine wearing a peice of heavy equipment on your armor from the time you are 10 years old... first of all, it would never fit at 10 years and 20 years without taking it off to adjust it. And then there's the nastiness of what wearing a hunk of metal all the time would do to the skin on your arm.

Now you do have to modify clothes that you get so you can access the pip boy, but considering the advantages it gives you over the Wastelanders, it's a small sacrifice.

Actually, it has:

Lone Wanderer: I hate it. How do I get it off?

Stanley Armstrong: Get it off? Why in the world would you want to do that? Your Pip-Boy's the best friend you'll ever have! Besides, you can't get it off. Biometric seals et cetera. I could tell you some stories about trying to take 'em off the old folks... ah, well, that's hardly a fit subject for a kid's birthday party. Don't worry, you'll get used to it. Pretty soon you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

Lone Wanderer: Wally said my Pip-Boy was a piece of junk!

Stanley Armstrong: Don't you listen to him. The A series may be a bit heavier than the luxury models, but they were built to last. Solid as a vault, they are. And I fixed her up myself. Shouldn't need to open her up again for a decade or two.

Looks like only authorized Vault-Tec technicians can take them off, and even then it's not easy.

Pip Boys run on Mac not vista, so they are compatible with lots of things, and won't destroy older things they interact with.

Well, my character can disable slave collars on the runaways. I think he can manage his pipboy okay.

I remember along the line that the Chosen One was given an opportunity to "reformat" the corrupt file in Vault City's Main Computer by placing the Pipboy into the slot. Then again, that thing is like over 70ish years old.

I wouldn't think too hard about it. I mean the little box can stop time and teleport you around. Getting over the sleeves of shirts should be a span for such an amazing device.

It is, ever play Operation Anchorage? Inside the simulation place there is a dead Gary, and a holotape of how they tried to get the pip-boy off of him.

They cut off his freaking arm.

I thought of that. I figured that there is probably a passcode to take them off. That would explain why it's hard to take it off a dead person since they can't give the password as well (Stanley has a story....).

Yeah, you're probably not supposed to think about it too much. I always kind of envisioned you needed some sort of specialized tool or something. Because yeah, it seems like you'd get one heck of a rash otherwise. (Though the PIPBoy is a pretty amazing device, maybe it has some sort of built-in lotion injector or something. :) )

Just imagine how filthy your arm must be if you can't take it off when you shower.

The pip-boy from the originals was not arm-mounted. It was hand-held, so you could easily do what you need (such as give it to Stark, or put it in the Vault City computer).

It was arm-mounted, but it was removable.

It was too... Now where did I pull the hand-held thing from? I could have sworn I read that somewhere... Certainly wasn't the manual; that says it was wrist-mounted. Odd.

The wiki includes some background from Van Buren and from JE Sawyer (who is now in charge of New Vegas, so I'd say his word is semi-official again), which mentiones some earlier models that were hand-held.
