Ever considered how the USn is WAY too lenient with naming? We let you name your kids "Apple".

Most other places have strict naming conventions, in order to prevent the breakdown of culture.

I remeber some girl changed her name to some website that was against dissecting frogs.

But anyway, even if you character just got it off a paper, it certainly wouldn't be Plem. How could your character even read if he didn't even know his own name? I think maybe you should just lay off making a character at all until you've come up with a suitable name.

Yes well... This is EPICFAIL, so I doubt "laying off" is something he'll do.

Plem as a nick-name would be good. Plem as a birth-name would be screwy, unless he was an Argonian. Then it might be a weird Argonian word...

Sure why not. The question you must ask yourself is...

What does "Plem" mean in argonian?

You should let your characters be who you want them to be. Of course, dont go naming them names like, "Deathbringer" or "Woodelfpwner". Just give them a name you would consider ordinary.

You can always do a little test Fanfic, just so you can begin to learn. Get some constructive critism from others, and you will soon have all the basics down. From there, you start to learn by your own experience, and also fill in a couple gaps here and there with your skills. This is not a race. Take as much time as you need to develop the skills. In the end, it is the thought put into it that counts. And the most important part of Fanfics and rping, is to have fun.

I think people are looking way to deep into the entire naming thing. Like as Blackhand said, as long as he isn't naming his character Marcus PwnsAll or something like that, it should't really matter. Is it really going to effect you that much if he comes into someones rp and wants to use the name Plem? Allow him to use his imagination without being so nitpicky. So what he wants to make a Breton who was raised by argonians named Plem. Come on. This is a world where [censored]in snake men eat people on one island and a living god that likes sticking it to people with his milk finger lives on another. I think its not so far fetched or even that big of a deal.

That would be up to you. That is the great thing about making a character. You can pretty much make a character however you like as long as you aren't to uber about it. Sometimes even uber is ok if you can pull it off right.

Well, for example, you wouldn't want to max out all of your stats because that would be too god-like.

Well, lets put it like this. If your character is really good with a sword of spear, make it where his marksmen is kinda low. Not every warrior is going to be good at everything. Lets say you make a powerful mage, well he likely wont be some awesome swordsmen or archer. Understand?

Thats fine. Just as long as your character isn't a master of every weapon and magic school, you will be fine.

Personally...

Master of Long Blades, Conjuration, Destruction and Mysticism, with a Medium armor thrown in.

Obviously I prefer to work from the Morrowind base stuff. Makes fr an interesting battlemage.

Of course "master" doesn't mean 100 in said skills. It means that's his area of study. An RP isn't a video game, so there's no numerical values usually. Unless you're RP'ing using the game... Anyway... Make the character believably capable with skills. A battlemage won't have any training in Bows because he uses spells at range. A marksman probably won't know much about more than one type of weapon (and most likely will know nothing about spears). A mage who really is a mage likely won't know much about armors, though he may know something about a weapon or two. A teenager won't be very good at anything, an advlt will likely be good at something, and if you're playing an "ancient": you'll likely be good at a lot of synergestic things.

The only time you get to be god is if you're Vivec... Or the Nerevarine. Assuming you'rer allowed to RP such a person.

*prays that you mean levels*

Would it really matter? It's an RP.

I pray that you are being deliberately obtuse ion an effort to make the rest of the world unhappy.

bottom line.

No levels in forum RP's, they arent relevent since there is no dice throws, experience points and so on. You wont hear a drum roll when you kill some one because you wont level up. Just think of it as diverse story telling.

As for skills, alot of people dont even ask for a skill list in their RP's now, they simply ask what you're character is good at. You're skills would be implied in a section like that and perhaps in you're characters biography.
