How do you roleplay on a forum

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:04 am

bottom line.

No levels in forum RP's, they arent relevent since there is no dice throws, experience points and so on. You wont hear a drum roll when you kill some one because you wont level up. Just think of it as diverse story telling.

As for skills, alot of people dont even ask for a skill list in their RP's now, they simply ask what you're character is good at. You're skills would be implied in a section like that and perhaps in you're characters biography.

what should my breton be good at (it being raised by argonian theives that named it "Plem") (and on an off note why in morrowind are there iron steel and silver items when there is no iron coal or silver ores ive seen ebony and glass but none of the fundemental ores to make the things stronger)

Answer to the first question: Anything that makes sense.

Answer to second question: Just because they don't show it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. There is no raw ebony in Oblivion, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. There is no Chitin Armor in Oblivion, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Go to the UESP search for "breton." http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Breton

Actually that link takes you directly to bretons... And gives you links to all the other races... And ALSO gives you links to skills, and from there to other skills and links to classes.

In other words go there, read.

Don't worry about making a "good" character, worry about making a beleivable convincing character.

adventurer/ guildsman is a job, they need some form of previous or current occupation whether it be serving in the legion or baking cakes.

I meant don't make them "good" as in game term maxed skills epic untouchable skills and the sych. Characters must be beleivable.

Or street urchin. Or maybe they never had a job and have ALWAYS been an adventurer. Particularly appropriate for orphans and the like.

the answer is simple : imports.

For examples look at the roman empire's trade: to make brass, the copper was from Iberia (today's spain) and the tin from cornwall (in today's england). Later during the roman empire, silk was imported from china, while the chinese were quite fond of roman glassware (which they didn't know how to make). At the height of the empire, the city of Rome imported most of the grain to feed a population numbering in the hundreds of thousands from Egypt, and most of it's olive oil from north Africa (today's Tunisia/Algeria/Lybia). During the medieval period, damascus swords were made with a special steel from India....

There's plenty of other example showing that trade goods can travel very far from their orignal source, even in a medieval-like setting, if they're valuable enough or a convenient way of moving them around exists.

The island of Vvardenfell is close enough to the mainland that low value good such as saltrice from the slave -crewed plantations is traded - that means even cheap stuff like iron and steel weapons and armor will make the trip.

There's no hard and fast limit on age, it all depends of the RP going on. An RP about Telvani mage lords won't have the same as a one a tamrielic version of karate kid....

My personal opinion would be to avoid going under 15-16 years old, something most medieval-like cultures will consider as 'old enough to be a full-fledgeg member' unless the RP's themes calls otherwise. Elves might raise that bar a bit, orcs lower it to 12 or 13 du to their shorter lifespan.

Don't forget that your character is supposed to bring something to the other players for all to enjoy the RP - be it usuefull partner, interesting opposition or simply comic relief.

A character that won't won't bring anything but soiled diapers, wails and burps is only a bothersome luggage who wil get discarded as soon as possible.

what about dwarves (or dwemer depending on how much you are into the game(s ?))

how young can they be and how old can they be? and what are there names like and what skills do they belong in (im guessing if they were playable in morrowind they would of had majors in strength and intellegence and would have a pick axe for a weapon)

If you're going to be that picky... they are for all intents and purposes extinct then. there is no prospect of the continuation of the dwemer race and ghosts don't count towards living memebers of a species

however if you must, I guess you can try rping the one remaining, corprus infested dwarf.
