How do you roleplay on a forum

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:50 pm

I've never been very fond of that guide. I'm not gonna lie about it. It's good for get a rough idea of how to RP, but when it really comes to personal things, I think it fails.

Yeah nothing can teach you 100% how to write.

I thought that was the point of the guide. Tips and tricks for not failing immediately in a rp, not how to rp well.

It pretty much is, it shows enough examples and gives enough advice to put people on the right path, But only they can decide how to walk that path.

Don't knock the guide :D its very good and helpful and it lays down some useful conventions (italics for thoughts etc) which make it easier to understand what is happening in other people's posts.

Nope. Elderscrolls only. But you can be creative with spells, most people dont use spell names they just describe the type of spell.

Check this website out if you want to start there, it has a beginner section. www.roleplayersguild.com

the idea is to take abilities from the elder scriolls and use them more creatively -> the burden example given by solider (good'un that by the way) or using a light spell like a flash bang etc. There is a limit between what is assumed to be possible and just not in the games and what is outright not in the lore. Its mostly common sense.

Edit
www.roleplayersguild.com
Its pretty good, I joined up and rp there a bit, though I can't find many rps I like and I find myself stuck in the void between casual and advanced, which is frustrating

Ugh... he's a troll! He's trying to be funny... and failing at that. Habbo is a stupid kid's game where a bunch of perverts and horny pre-teens go. And if he isn't a troll... he's a pretty dumb kid. RPing is not simply writing what you would do in a video game. It's an art, you make a story, conveying your experience to other Roleplayers who in turn continue that story with their own characters, forming depth. It isn't some leetspeek game on Habbo Hotel.

hence why i am here

and why must people rip on me just because my username is epicfail im not going to give my character a dumb name i just need to figure out a name i like then go through a series of questions on how to determin my stats and then spend hours thinking of what to be since an ash statue is out of the question... and am i able to use more then one character? (at a time because i know im not stuck with my charcter for life ) and can i continue to use my character in other rp threads if it were to die in one or does a death mean i must restart and all other threads i was usuing it in are labled dead as well ?

I remember the good old days of Rping. Back when we still put our characters level along with the character sheet.

No... levels are now frowned on, as you never read a book that declares any character a "lvl 3 warrior".

No RPs, unless otherwise states, are connected to other RPs. So yes, you can use a character you made for one RP in another RP but it is technically a totally different person with a backround that can be similar to the last one, but still must conform to what the RP is about.

Does that help?

i like magic strength and stealth all in one my resons

i like huge inventory

stealth takes much time to level

magic compensates what i cant do with stealth

to me bretons are perfect because they can be trained and with combat as special they already get boost to magicka + atronach also gives magicka boost

I don't reccomend combining magic/warrior/stealth. Pick one, or pick a fusion of two, but I don't reccomend trying to become a jack of all trades thats good with all of them.

Won't matter in an rp. most of the time you'll be limited to what you could reasonably carry, and you probably won't be able to carry more then a single set of armor, some clothes, and a weapon or two plus a food sack and some other goods.

stealth takes much time to level
Not a concern in rp's

I highly reccomend you learn the difference between the RPing that goes on here and an RPG

Personally, I would suggest reading some of the RPs around here to get a feel for what a character ought to look like and reading some people's posts to see how everything goes down.

You usually post a character sheet in the rp's thread, and in each successive thread for that rp unless the op says otherwise. Secondly, you just make up a background.

Example:
Background: Amiel has been a religious zealot for as long as he can remember. Raised in the holy city of Kvatch, he became a mercenary working out of the contracting office.
