Saying "o" or "oh" instead of "zero" is just bad practice and makes as much sense as saying "i" for "one" and "s" for "5", that they are similar in look does not make them the same thing, so you should not call a number something it is not, such as a letter.

Uh this was done way before people were on the internet or even had cell phones. We would never use "i" or one or "s" for 5 wich I never seen done except for Roman Numerals.

Not speaking specifically about the internet or phones, just generally. It′s true that i is one in roman numerals but s is not five, unfortunately I′ve met people who replace five with s :S

While we are on the case, let′s abolish AM and PM too, really it may make a person feel fancy to have Latin words in his or her vocabulary but you don′t see it with any other languages, you don′t take Danish and mix it with English.

So why do we need to go all "Yeah the clock is five post meridiem" or "oh it′s already past midnight, in fact it′s two ante meridiem" =.= I say it′s just seventeen and then I say it′s two.proper.

Except Meridan has been in our language longer than zero has.

Not quite, English evolved out of it. If I go on google translate and translate "Meridiem" from English to my home language I get no results or just "Meridiem" but if I change it from English - my language, to Latin - my language, it has a translation. The word is Latin, not English.

Depends. If it's a phone number I say "Oh" but if it's a code like a CD key I say zero

I've used google translate quite a bit recently and sometimes it does some crazy things when translating words back and forth between languages. It could just be a technical issue there.

I say zero.

Now you've got me wondering if Canadians and others outside the US always call a "z" a "zed" or a "zee"? I've been under the impression that Canadians always said "zed".
We say "zee" you see.

Zee, what the hell is "zed"?

What do you people say for decimals, eg "0.5"?

I just drop the zero and say point five, or in that case turn it into a fraction, one half.

I never herd of a ZEE 28 Camero, it was always a Zed 28.

Zed is the proper way to say Z in Canada, but alot of Canadians are Americanized and don't know the difference. I am not sure where else Z is pronouced as Zed. It's just a cultural difference Capital.

Mostly in the Commonweath, I think. Canadians pick up too many bad influences from Americans.

It's a toss up. It depends on the preceding number I guess, since sometimes it's 'O' and sometimes it's 'zero', usually I say 'O' though.

I say zero, I had a bad habit of saying "O" for zero but when I joined the military that changed.

Same, I served in the early 90's and I've never said O since then when saying the number zero. When I hear my wife give her ss number over the phone I always correct her and say "its zero honey".

Zero, except for the start of a 08 or 01 area code where i say oh just like everyone else.

Zero for the 07's though :shrug:

Both, although when it's the area code or prefix, I almost always say "oh". I lived in the 707 area code, and now I live in the 808, and those definitely sound odd to say "zero". I think it depends on the number that precedes it which I say.

I would agree with this. I would say "seven-oh-seven" or "eight-oh-eight". I'm reminded here of Agent Double-Oh-Seven (Agent 007).
