How do you set custom resolutions?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:53 am

EDIT: Fixed! To change your resolution, open up #:\Users\[User]\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\SkyrimPrefs.ini and modify entries iSize H=#### and iSize W=#### to whatever you want.

Hey. I have a 720p HDTV with a native resolution of 1360x768. It supports 1920x1080 (1080i) but doesn't quite fit everything so I use my nVidia drivers to resize the desktop to 1804x1004. This looks great and pretty much every game I have supports this resolution, but it's not showing up in the Skyrim launcher.

Anyone know how to set it to a custom resolution?

Thanks!

If the desktop is also not "fitting", the nvidia control panel should have a scaling option that may make the screen fill up (or shrink to) the TV screen w/out changing desktop/game resolution setting, if that makes sense. I've noticed some games don't "fill up" properly for whatever reasons and I do that.

...if that's not what you meant/are referring to, tho, just ignore me. heh
Otherwise I'd guess it's an .ini tweak, but I don't know that info yet.

Yeah I know, thanks. That's what I do. I use nVidia drivers to resize the desktop so it fits, and my games support this resolution. All I need is to get Skyrim to use this resolution too.

I haven't found an ini file in the Skyrim folder which gives me this option yet.

Anyone?

Oh...so the game act's like the stretching/scaling isn't happening? Odd.

Did you try the Oblivion .ini tweak for resolution (might only work in windowed mode tho) just to see if it works? I don't have Skryim unlocked yet so I can't look at the .ini myself. :(

iSize W=1280
iSize H=1024

The above two values determine the screen width and height in pixels respectively - you can specify a custom screen resolution (in Windowed mode only) by changing these values.

Thanks for the suggestion. I found this same entry in the SkyrimPrefs.ini but it doesn't make any difference. Actually it seems to have no effect whatsoever.

At the moment I'm using the launcher to run it at widescreen 16:9, 1360x768, which is what it's actually running at. The ini file settings however are: iSize H=900, iSize W=1600. Changing them does nothing.

Anyone figured this out yet?

My bad, I was being a div. You change the settings in the #:\Users\[User]\Documents\My Games\Skyrim folder, I was looking in the steamapps folder. Sorted now. Thanks for your help. :)
