How do you transfer saves from console to pc?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 10:10 am

I've heard that you can do this, so how do you do it? Because I have it on xbox, but really want the mods.
Is there a guide, or manual or something?
And if you do it, will you lose your console saves, or will it duplicate?

I don't think it's possible to transfer a console save to PC and then play with that save on the PC version. You can transfer the file to your PC but it's useless unless you transfer it to another console. I could be wrong though.

If your intention is to transfer the save, add mods and then transfer it back, that won't work.

The save only contains basic data, you would still need the mod files themselves and modding on consoles isn't a permitted thing.

If you also have the game on PC and just want to continue your game on Pc with mods, I think there is a way, but not seen any threads for a while instructing what was needed.

No I'm almost certain there's no way to import an Xbox 360 save into a PC version of Skyrim. In fact I am certain.

Well, it should work. It is just a save game. People transfer their save games to PC players all the time. The PC players plays the game, and uses console commands to advance through stages of broken quests and returns the save file to the Xbox user. I din't see why this would be any different. You just need to have a PC and the PC version of Skyrim.

Really ? I thought they were two completely different types of files. That's pretty cool.

As long as the file is saved as an *.ess file. It should work. Unless I am missing something. I would get a thumb drive and save to it then open it with windows on a PC and see what the file is saves as. Maybe someone who has done this can give you better info. I am just assuming.

He's a little 'funny' but explains everything pretty well. The one thing he really stresses is remembering to turn the .ess file back into a .dat file.

ps. you can duplicate your saves so you have a back up if something goes wrong, this can be done by either simply using 'copy' on the computer once the file has been extracted or copying the save while on xbox.

Works quite well, I play on xbox so I end up doing this regularly (Had to get killcams to turn off).

Also. if you're not putting the saves back onto your xbox all you really need to do is extract the file via modia or another program, go to rename, replace .dat with .ess and put it into your skyrim saves.

Not sure if you can but I dind find a couple of links that claim you can do this.

Copy the save to your 360 Formatted USB Drive. Open with Modio. Click open from device locate the save file and open it. Click the file contents tab. Extract savegame.dat rename to savegame.ess and put it into your Skyrim save game location.

I haven't tried due to not owning a ps3; but your best bet would be to try for yourself.

No need to be mean broskii, because well.. I could be critical of your coming here, posting in bright yellow and half-ass explaining something.

Also, OP. I'm not sure if you've played on the pc or not but here is a link to the Skyrim wiki for Commands (the more usefull ones, and the key to open the Console is usually under *esc) http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Console_Commands_(Skyrim):ActorValue_List

So once you've opend the console for example you'd type 'Player.forceav shoutrecoverymult 0' and this would allow you to shout as much as you'd like.

I was under the impression that the OP only owned it for the 360.

It was a little obvious though.. like how else is he going to play skyrim on the pc.

Not neccesarily. There have been a few similar threads on the forums where the poster wanted to add mods to a save game and then transfer it back so they could play with mods on console........which for those particular posters showed how little they knew about modding :)

Oh. So that's where the issues with PS3 save file-sizes originated...
