How do you walk with build interface up?

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 3:12 am

Okay, another stupid question.

How the hell do you walk around while having the build interface up? Arrow keys, that I have assigned the movement keys to, just interact with the build interface while that's up, by scrolling between various option, and I can't move while the interface is up. I can't assign settlers to anything that's far from them because I can't move to select the object I want to assign them to.

PS: Well done, Bethesda, on your consolized UI for the PC. I'm sure millions of PC players who are stubborn enough to use kb&mouse are just worshiping you for it.

It's likely impossible with the way you changed your keybinds. I know there's quite a few that are locked in by bethesda.

You could attach a controller to your pc if you have an xbox one or ps4 and use that just in build mode so you don't have to mess with the keybinds.

I do agree that they really should have devoted some development time to a proper PC UI. I'm on console so right now this doesn't affect me (will pick up PC when it hits the bargain bin) but I totally feel your pain. No console UI is adequate for pc.

Yeah, just discovered that if you reassign the arrow keys to movement, you can no longer move with the build interface up. To move, you have to put other keys than the arrows which seem to be stuck to navigating the build interface and are not usable for movement with the interface up. So in order to assign settlers, I have to go into the Controls, put wasd to movement instead of arrows, assign settles, and then rebind the keys back to arrows.

Nice beta version game we're having here. Now if only the REAL game developers called "Modders" would finish this skeleton game faster.

I think I'll delete the game for now and try it again when it's finished.

Azerty keyboard here. I use S to walk backward incrementaly and X to run forward until pressing X again to stop. If you hover what you're trying to build at head hight you can make it slide forward and back with the mouse wheel then mouse it up or down with the mouse itself. The hardcoded keys are a pain in the [censored] and not only for that.

This seems a bit melodramatic to me. So you map your arrow keys for movement. What would you recommend for moving around the build interface? Telepathy?

It's not building that's the problem, I can do that fine. It's the fact that assigning settlers is impossible if the object I want to assign them to is some distance away, cause it's too far to select it and I can't move with the interface like I could if I was using wasd.

I dunno. How about also rebinding the interface keys to something else and not be stuck to the arrows? Oh wait, you can't do that because of hardcoded keys [censored] because this game is a [censored] console port for the pc "plebs".

X forward V backward (azerty) select serf move to where you can highlight task you wish them do do and E (select). YOU CANNOT use the keys you use for moving while playing, this is due to Beths' oh so wonderfull idea to hardcode keys that cannot be changed via Fallout menu (see multiple posts about this if you wish).

Now is this stupid, yes.

Is this illogical, yes.

Is this acceptable, I don't think so.

Is it possible to do, YES.
