How do you want to die in Skyrim?

Post » Mon Feb 21, 2011 1:50 am

I have always thought dying in TES has always been somewhat uneventful. All that really happens is you fall over dead, the death music cues and whatever was attacking you goes back to walking his/her/its predetermined path. This is just merely an idea that is already being incorporated into the game, but would others like to see NPCs perform a finishing move of sorts on the player if they do die? Perhaps an NPC could even flick off the player as we saw with some of the concept art from GI. I personally would just like to see some variation and more believability/liveliness when the player actually dies. Anyone else have any possible ideas or comments on better death sequences in Skyrim?

Believable aye?

Here comes the hammer

That's as accurate as it could possibly be.

bahahhaahha this post is full of win! :disguise:

but i think it'd be cool to have the enemy use finishing moves too, although it'd make me so mad if i got flipped of by a stupid bandit, i would mark my map where he was and probably kill him load back and kill him again and again

It's a small thing, but I would like it if the camera didn't automatically switch from 1st to 3rd person when you die.

I want to watch my lifeless body until I choose to load another save. Things should react to me being dead, i.e. townsfolk looting my corpse, wolves dragging me back to their den for supper, etc.

That or something as worthy as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_3pkxiM2Us.

This'd be interesting to see, if perhaps only worth implementing for the more dramatic encounters - I can picture a dragon picking up the would-be dragonslayer in its jaws and hurling him off-screen, but more common and/or less-deadly enemies might not really justify such attention.

Either way, for most players death is the end of the game (read: save file session), followed shortly by loading a save; and so it essentially never happens to most PCs. I'd rather character death -- or rather, the lack of it despite being reduced to zero health -- was handled in more ways than the brief, "you're dead! load a save or roll a new hero" fall-down sequence; capture, near escapes, heroic "nine lives" scenarios, etc. But I guess that's a different topic altogether.

I like your idea in any case.

This, combined with finishing moves and allowing you to choose to change between first and third person is pure awesome.

This would be awesome. It means death isn't necessarily the end of the experience.

I also like the idea of enemies performing finishing moves.

Same here. Dying in Fallout 3 was already much better than in Oblivion. The only thing that needs to be added there is your enemies celebrating that they got you with fitting comments, looting your corpse etc.

Who said I wanted to die? :P

Nah, I'd like expand what Danger Dan suggested. If you're dead, I'd like us to just die and reload or something, but it would've been cool if we were badly wounded and close to death, then we see our body getting dragged etc. Then, we have the choice of watching the body or reload, and if we're watching the body someone might pass by and heal us, or find us and take to some shelter and take care of us.

Sounded better in my head though...

I've got to be honest and say that I've never even thought about this topic.

As soon as I die I just reload

In first person I'd like the camera to fall over onto the floor, bouncing. Then your vision rapidly blurs and fades to white. You are dead :flamethrower:

I quite like the idea of dying by proxy. I just need to find out which suitably dislikeable NPC can volunteer for the job. :P

Ooh, scary! (J/k...Todd, please don't hurt me!)

I think it would be cool if the enemy feasted on your remains, while singing a song of defeat. :bonk:

Again, just kidding. I don't know--what would be realistic? To lie there and die slowly, while watching your enemy walk away? Or to have the lights go out the moment a warhammer smashes into your skull? I mean, what more can they do with your death scene? :dead:

I will probably die in some terrific, epic battle with me versus 50 Xivilai or something... "...So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat..."

No, I'm just kidding. I'll probably end up falling off a cliff or something stupid like that.

i agree. almost no game hasn't made a production out of the player dying. i think it would just add to the effect if you just hear CRUNCH and the screen blacks out.

I'd definitely like to see enemies perform finishing moves on my character, and I'd also like it if my character didn't die instantly when her hp gets to zero (at least not every single time). The same goes for NPC's. Not all kills are instant kills. Sometimes a person will lay on the floor and squirm a little before they die. But I think it's kinda funny to see them fighting at 100% capacity and then die instantly from a punch to the gut.

Also, I'd like characters to react to my corpse. Unlike in Oblivion, people passing by shouldn't try to start a conversation with me if I'm dead... And the enemies that killed me should be celebrating and not just going about their business as if nothing happened...

Stuff like this is pretty important to me. Not really sure why...
