How do you want to start?

Post » Tue Jul 13, 2010 10:40 pm

since we are getting executed, how should we start? are we lead out of prison, called from a line, wakeup with a chop block in front of us or what?

i would like something like...

you are on a wide, battle scarred plain and a few tents are set up- there might have been a vilage- but if there was it has been completely wiped out. you are lined up with eight different prisoners that look like they have gone through hell. a few soldiers are sitting around the campsite, looting dead or playing jokes on each other. a huge, hulking imperial of 8 foot tall walks out of his tent. he is rather chuby and wears an executioner mask. he stands next to the chop block . he picks the player, strolls up to him and screams "time to die filthy... (race selection pops up, and the imperial calls you a derogatory name depending on it. if you are an imperial he calls you traitor)

then a distraction pops up, i imagine either

A: the executioner gets hit by a mysterious arrow
B: a dragon comes
C: the people in the camp are about to be attacked.
D: one of the prisoners is in fact a powerful magic user and frees everyone/smashes stuff

then the player runs. for this my idea is...

A: the player runs into the hills
B: the player runs to the hills, is shot by an arrow, and is presumed dead. might be a good time to pick attributes/advantages/star signs
C: the player runs into the forest nearby
D: the player runs of a cliff, and survives - might be a good time to pick attributes/advantages/star signs

i doesn't matter if imperials get replaced by nords. nords could add a "you are not welcome HERE effect" whilst imperials could add a "who's land is this?" effect.

I think you wanted spoiler tags, not quote tags, :), Where did you get the info that we are getting executed?, if so, I'd prefer to be getting executed by a small band of renegades, not a major power

It was stated in one of the magazines that you start off as a prisoner who is about to be executed. Todd Howard has said you can make up your own reason. It could be a horrible crime, you could be wrongly accused etc. But nonetheless, I highly doubt it is a band of renegades.

Then won't it be hard to integrate into society? executions are usually public, and I thought Nords didn't do executions , i'm sure Bethesda will pull it off, just not sure how

I'm not sure. Another point I forgot to add is that it is Esbern that saves you. I suppose it may perhaps just be in a prison yard, not public, with jsut some other prisoners, and then Esbern will show up and kill the executioner, free you, and you must make a dash through the prison to a secret tunnel in the side of a mountain leading to a Nordic temple or something.

I'd like to have a similar thing to Raymond E. Feists book, Shadow of a Dark Queen, I won't spoil it for those who haven't read it, but how awesome was the way the prisoners got out of that (or didn't get out of it)

No. Esbern saves you. It's been confirmed, I believe. I would like a scene where he uses a dragonshout to throw the executioner across the place, then run up, slash a few people, then have a soldier knock you out. Then you wake up somewhere else.

I thought Esbern didn't have dragon shouts, and that was the PC's thing and the PC's thing only.

And the greybeards, but they have bad arthritis, so they won't be saving any planets.

In preparation or the game, some of us are creating background stories. It would be of benefit to the authenticity of my story to know somewhat about where my character is being kept prisoner. My story will most likely determine why.

Any theories out there?

I think that we will see a hooded character's head from the back being dragged towards his/her's execution. Then the hood will be pulled back and the character creation interface will be opened.

I predict that just prior to our execution, a dragon encounter will occur and through the ensuing chaos we will be able to escape our untimely demise.

I want it to start with my character hanging from her wrists, bound together over her head with her toes just barely able to touch the cell floor. Then to be unshackled and promptly fall to the floor, wherein I'll see a reflection in a pool of water that leads to character customization. Afterwards being dragged along by two guards similar to the cimematic entrance Riddike has going into Butcher Bay in the game of the same name.

Put into a long cell with a few other prisoners, a barred window running the length of it to allow each prisoner to see the execution of the former one. After a few of those it'll be our turn, so again dragged out and forced to our knees for the executioners axe. Whatever happens at that point, and voila, FREEEEDOOOOM! Or well, into a long tutorial at least. Then freedom. ^_^

The executioner puts the noose on your neck and tightens it. Whatever the reason you ended up in this position - in the gallows of a small village - you might feel some regret, or fear, or maybe anger... Regardless, your emotions will not stem your impending execution. The village executioner pulls the switch, the trapdoor beneath your feet opens and you fall into the abyss, closing your eyes... But you aren't dead, not immediately, though you definitely feel pain. At least, you don't think you are; you can still hear people around you, screaming, and the creaking of wood. Are they angry because you're not dead?

You dare open your eyes and are faced with the sight of the gallows meant to be your death, burning. Through what remains of the trapdoor, you can see a dragon swoop down, loud yells as people rush by. You try to move, but your leg is trapped by a burning block of wood from which your rope hung. It appears that the timely attack of the dragon saved you from a swift death in the gallows only to condemn you to a much more protracted and painful one. Maybe the gallows will collapse soon and end your misery, you might think when you realise you won't be able to move the wood that trapped you, as if the gallows were determined to kill you even from beyond their grave. It certainly seems that the structure - aflame as it is - won't hold for much longer, judging by the creaking.

But then, a strange cloaked figure comes into view. "Come on... budge!" He wastes no time, grabbing your trap. With your help, the aged - judging from his voice, for a hood obscures his features - man moves the wood away, then grabs you by the shoulders and drags you from beneath the burning gallows. Your vision starts to fade, but you can recall the man standing you up and pretty much carrying you away from the scene on his back, before all is consumed by darkness.

You wake up later in an old, rather abbandoned-looking room made of stone. The man who rescued you stands with his back to you, facing the doorframe, but looks over his shoulder when he hears you sitting up.

"Ah, good, you finally awake. I am Esbern."

I'll probably start out by turning on the console and then let that boot up. When it gets to the dashboard then I'll open the cd tray and put TESV in the cd tray and then close it and then wait for whatever happens next.

Why is my character scheduled for execution? He had his way with a bit too many noble's daughters...and killed some Argonian diplomats or something, but it's mostly the whole daughter thing.

Narved's heart beat fast in his chest as his was led up to the platform. The ground was snow covered, harsh and he had no shoes to protect his feet. A gruff black clad executioner pointed at the platform with his axe. He noticed a small rope hanging from an overhanging tree.
A small crowd, mostly of guards surrounded the platform. A snobby looking fur clad aristrocrat stepped out from the jeering crowd into where Narved could see him. His whispy brown hair that hung long over the noble's face irritated him.
He cleared his throat. "Ahem. Narved Chillvein, you stand accused of standing against the revolution effort by assault, murder and high treason. Do you refute these charges?"
Narved spat on the ground near the annoying man. "Ha! Tell me, how do I commit treason against revolutionaries? You are the guilty ones, weakborn."
The noble's face became stiff as he read more from his parchment. "As these charges have been proven correct, you will be hanged from the Dead Tree and the-" his speech was interrupted by an arrow in his torso. A fierce bellow in some archaic tongue echoed from an unknown location as a wave of force knocked the spectators off their feet.
"Criminal! This way!" A rough but friendly voice shouted from down the valley. Grabbing an axe from the executioner, Narved gave a mocking salute to his would-be killers and ran towards the man who would change his life forever.

Actually we don't know that,it said in OXM UK,that "don't think you are the only one who can use dragon shout's"
In fact i would'nt be surprised if the greybeards are dragons! "i got this from "jara of the black wind" from the lore section.
Maybe all dragons are not bad or against the PC.

Arthritis or no, the greybeards could shout halfway across the world if they had to. Unfortunately, they might destroy the world if they do that. It's why they often wear gags.

Was it really necessary to paint the image of several old men together on the top of a remote mountain and then adding ball-gags into the mix?

Ball gags? Whatever do you mean?
According to the UESP: "After this it was known by the storms; the Greybeards were about to speak. The nearby citizens evacuated the area, but Talos made his way to the Greybeards home. When the Greybeards spoke Talos' name the world shook and they told him that he would rule Tamriel, but he needed to go south to do so."
They are literally gagged at the mouth to stop them from speaking.
