Hud and Pip Boy

Haven't seen this topic come up yet, but it's bound to, especially once some actual game play footage s revealed.

What would be an ideal setup?

I am assuming they will keep the HUD mostly the same. Maybe not as blocky, artwise, but arranged much the same.

I also didn't see a problem with the Pip-boy for everything else. Maybe some video holotapes, though?

Ooooo, I like this =)

I hope they integrated an HUD where you can toggle all options for a completely clean HUD, like some of the mods for Skyrim. In general they should be looking at Skyrim mods and incorporate a lot of stuff.

I hope the Pip-Boy keeps its gritty look and that maybe you can find upgrades for it, like better light, thermal mapping, etc.

I love the Pip-Boy but the one thing that grated me was the split second delay in pulling it up EVERYTIME you needed to check your inventory. That got really old. Please Beth, make it instant.

I'm kinda wondering if the favorites list from Skyrim is going to carry over to Fallout. Handy little thing I'd like to see improved as well.

Someone examined the Pipboy we saw in the trailer and pointed out that it separated the categories as STATS, INVENTORY, DATA, MAP, and RADIO. Thank goodness they split up the data tab like that; I hope they organize notes better and give us at least the same amount of organization Skyrim's Quests tab had. Skyrim was cool, because you could take multiple active quests (or none at all) and they differentiated between small miscellaneous objectives and full quests. If radio has a full section to itself, maybe we'll get more choices in radio stations.

As for the HUD, I'd prefer a centered compass rather than one in the corner like the last games. More control over HUD elements would be cool, too, but I'd really like something on the HUD that can show us the time without having us use the wait menu or look at our Pipboy.

Hopefully we have complete and independent control of each and every HUD element, with variants thereof. To include but not limited to, color, size, placement and fade.

Another member mentioned a detail about how PA uses or should use the helm as the HUD and donning it takes the place of or overrides the Pip-Boy. It seems fitting to be able to remove the PB when getting into PA. I cannot imagine that the PA can not do everything the PB can. I also never understood how the HUD worked with the PB. The PB has your UI but you need a visor for the HUD (VATS).

I hope we see variants in this and can use a handheld version, as well.

I liked the basic HUD in Skyrim with the exception of the compass set up like a rear view mirror at the top of the screen. Would like to see this along the bottom of the screen. Also toggled on/off for the quest and location markers!!

Sounds really promising for the Pip boy set up, and I agree , fumbling around with it, especially while in melee combat was problematic, and not particularly practical.

One thing I've considered, was perhaps having the pip boy serve as a component whenever suited up in power armor, with some info like grenade, stimpack and ammunition quantities displayed on you visor window... could be real handy...

LOL , yeah looks like the power armor helm serving as as alternate type of HUD is imagined by more than me...

I'd rather have a Pipboy Color than the monochromatic UI we got in the last games, but hopefully they might at least at some depth to the palette so it isn't just a binary color scheme.

As for a favorites menu, it'd be cool if we got some sort of quickmenu that happened in real time. I actually wouldn't mind if all of the Pipboy menus happened in real time, especially if it's easy to open a quickmenu and pop a Stimpak before you get killed.
